Turtle, [not] the hare

Hello to everyone! Happy to be here.

So, my situation is a bit specific, so I wanted to ask for any advice/hints before I got going. I weigh more or less 380 lbs and I'm totally fine doing what I have to do to lose the person I need to lose. I've lost a lot of weight before. The difference this time has to do with my career. I'm a young opera singer and I, thus, need to be in tip top vocal shape before anything else. I need to lose 140-150 pounds in the end, but I spoke with several people who have lost lots of weight as opera singers and they all said the same thing:

"GO SLOWLY!"

Apparently, I'm to lose no more than 6-8 pounds a month if I want to keep my voice intact (and I most certainly do). When I went from 350 to 240 the first time, I lost about sixty pounds in three months and killed the rest off in another two. This time, I absolutely cannot do that.

So...any hints on losing specifically fat without losing any weight beyond 6-8 pounds a month?

Thanks for your help!

Il Barone Scarpia

I Lost over 60 Pounds!

It took me about a year to lose over 60 pounds! Now I am maintaining the loss! It's exciting and challenging!

I did not use any weight loss programs or diet pills -- though I am not against them. They just were not for me.

I have a facebook page at: facebook .com /AngieDish

It is not a page promoting weight loss products, it is a page about my personal weight loss journey and my advice to others! :-)

Hi, I am Angie

By 2010, the weight on my 5'2" frame had sky-rocketed to 185 pounds. I decided due to health concerns I needed to try to loss some weight. The beginning of 2011 my journey began. It took me about a year to lose around 60 pounds.

I have been able to maintain my weight loss for over two years now! It has been a journey, I tell you.

Now I want to help others that are in the situation I was in.

Feel free to ask me any question! :-)

It ain't over until the...

Hey everyone!

Scarpia checking in here. For those that don't know, that is a character from the opera Tosca and that should reveal about how nerdy I am before I even continue! I am 23 years old and I'm a young opera singer. My voice part is baritone which, for anyone who is unaware of the opera scene these days, is kind of the 'hunk' voice type. We're expected to look pretty darn good for the most part.

And I used to! About two years ago I weighed 240 and looked not bad (ifIdosaysomyself). I'm 6'5 and half-Polynesian so my frame is pretty massive, but putting 140 lbs on is rough for anyone (you can do the math haha). I'm still capable of doing lots of things and my quality of life hasn't decreased a ton (again, big frame. I was made to carry weight), but I need to get my things in order if I'm going to have a career!

Thus, I join you! I'm so happy to be here and start getting back on track. :3

Love and stuff,

Il Barone

have you ever used kratom for having more energy?

I wonder if you have ever used kratom to have more energy?

I was advised to try it (bought from kratomunderground.com) and want to say it helped me to have enough energy to do more exercises.

How I am losing weight

Below is what has helped me to lose weight.

No sugar. (I use honey or fructose to sweeten things)

Drink pure chimp super tea. I can’t stand green tea so this stuff has been great for me.

Swap white for brown (bread, rice, pasta etc).

Exercise at least 3 times a week

I feel great and have a lot more energy following this regime.

How much fruit

So how much fruit is healthy to eat a day? As it's summer here we have lots of fruit available and I may take 1 or 2 to work with me. For example today I took a plum and a small mango. But I no to much is not good as well.

Need some helpful advice

Hello, my name is Luke, I'm 18 and weigh about 220 pounds, and I'm 5'11 and really out of shape.

It's been rough, but I finally started working out again. July 16th was my day 1, then July 18th, pretty much every Monday Wednesday and Friday.

Week 1, I worked out Wednesday and Friday as my first two days, sore as hell.

Week 2, worked out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Week 3, I slacked a bit, Monday I was too tired from staying up late, but today, Tuesday, did day 6!

So I'm starting to get a schedule going, once I get adjusted to three days a week, I'll go to five days a week or so.

But I have questions about my workout routine, here is what I do in my garage:

Warm ups/stretches

1. 20 squat throws with 12 lb. medicine ball

2. 15 harmonica crunches (sit on your butt, lean back, head inches above the ground and have legs stretched out inches above the ground, only part of body touching the ground is your butt; sit up, bring knees up to body both at the same time, then stretch out again and so on) cardio workout

3. 5 push-ups (gonna increase it soon)

4. 20 sit-ups (increase to 25 or 30 around week 4 or 5 hopefully)

5. 20 kettle bell swings with a 30 pound dumbbell

6. 20 dumbbell lunges, 10 each hand

7. 15 kettlebell dead lift high pull (i use a 45 pound dumbbell instead, I don't have kettlebells)

8. 20 curls with 35 lb. dumbbell, 10 each arm

9. 20 one arm dumbbell pull ups. I pretty much sit down, and in between my legs is a 35 lb. dumbbell, and i bend over, pick it up with my right or left hand, pull it up to about my face level, and put it back down.

And that's typically my entire work out routine. I'll be getting a treadmill in a few weeks, so I'll be able to incorporate some running hopefully. (I'm not a good runner at all)

My real question and point of this thread, For an overweight guy like me, is this a good/long enough workout routine? It definitely makes me sweat like crazy, and I'm breathing heavily for about 5-10 minutes after the workout, and sore all over. But I feel like I should be doing more. Thanks for any insight or helpful tips.

Mindless eating solutions for everyday life

If you have ever ordered the wrong meal at a restaurant, do not blame yourself; blame the menu. What you order may have less to do with what you desire and more to do with a menu’s layout and descriptions.

After studying 217 menus and the selections of over 300 diners, the Cornell study published in the International Journal of Hospitality Management revealed that when it comes to what you order for dinner, two things matter most: what you see on the menu and how you think it will taste.

First, any food item that draws attention (with bold, hightlighted or colored font or set apart in a text box) makes us more likely to order that food item instead of the item listed next to it. “In most cases, these are the least healthy items on the menu,” said lead author, Brian Wansink, author of Slim by Design: Mindless Eating Solutions for Everyday Life.

Second, menu names with descriptive items sell much better and lead you to believe that they taste better. The researchers mention a study where they changed the names of restaurant menu items to make them more descriptive; the seafood filet became Succulent Italian Seafood Filet and red beans and rice became Cajun Red Beans and Rice.

Sales of these items increased by 28% and they were rated as tastier, despite the fact that the recipe was identical. Diners were also willing to pay about 12% more money for a menu item with a descriptive name.

The best strategy to healthier restaurant dining may be an easy one. “Just ask your server,” says Wansink, “Ask ‘What are your two or three lighter entrées that get the most compliments?’ or ‘What’s the best thing on the menu if a person wants a light dinner?’”

Notably, Wansink and co-author Katie Love highlight that restaurants can also use these two strategies – catching attention and priming imagination to guide diners to buy healthier high margin items. It is a good way menu design could help make diners slim by design.

Nutrisystem not a good choice. Any other programs?

I'm a diabetic, and I decided to go on Nutrisystem for the convenience. It's an expensive program, but I thought I'm desperate to lose weight. It is NOT good. The food is not very good. The desserts are ok, but you can't just eat desserts. Also, the customer service is horrible. Does anyone have other programs proven to be good?

Hi Everyone

:hurray: I'm Looking Forward to getting to know you all.

Sleek by Next Summer

Hi there

I'm a 39 year old female, married with a teenage daughter.

I have put on 20 lbs in the last year. I seem to be in this cycle of bad eating that I cannot break. I am also exercising sporadically, if at all. Too much TV, sitting at the computer, and giving into cravings for sweets at night. I'm not going to go into my whole life story in this first post. I'm sure a lot of it will come out along the way, but I have an extremist personality--all or nothing. I would like to find a little balance when it comes to food and exercise. I can overdo it as easily as not do it at all.

My plan is this:

Track food intake on Myplate every day--calorie goal 1500

Exercise for 30 min every day

Weigh myself once per week --Tuesday

Take measurements once per week--Tuesday

One cheat meal a week

I can refine and change the plan as I go.

My stats as of today July 29, 2014

Height: 5' 7" <---this won't change, lol

Weight: 168.8 lb

Measurements: 39-29-41 / 24 legs / 13 arms

I will post my workouts and daily calories each day.

Time for some coffee and then a workout!

Maintaining weight once you have reached your goal....

I have been dieting and running for going on my fourth month now, I am at my desired weight and feel good but now I am wondering where to go from here. I have been at my goal weight for 3 weeks now and am still on the same plan of 1233 calories per day, which BTW is not easy in that I find myself coming up short in my calories quite a bit. I feel maybe I should bump the caloric intake up a bit to help with energy especially on my 5 mile runs.....Any thoughts, experiences or advice ?

Sharon D's Diary

Hi I think I have found a supportive site that will say 'Well done' when I try instead of just asking me how much I have lost! That's what I think I need.

I am 17st 10 lb as of this morning and for my 5 foot 5 1/2 inch height, that is a little over .....:blush5:

I want to get down to 11 stone but this is going to take a while so instead of fixating on how long this is going to take I have committed to do 'something' towards my goal every week.

This week I am steaming a new vegetable - mixed peppers. (don't know why I never tried steaming these before.)

Also I am going swimming after my physiotherapy class tomorrow. I am going to do this for the next few weeks and see how it goes!

Look forward to getting to know some of you more in the weeks and months to come.

Blessings.

It's time to say goodbye to porkchop!

So yesterday I had a bad day with eating. We had a festival called taste of Edmonton. It basically is local restaurants where you buy tickets for smaller plates of food(Sample size). I had way too much. Today I had ice cream after dinner, and a cupcake at work. On a more positive note fruit and yogurt for a snack.

My problem is I can do ok with limiting myself at work, but when I’m home or off work, I over indulge or eat out. Not to mention my family has bad habits with food as well. There is always junk food around. My will power is weak. I`m not good with counting calories and diets are intimidating. There is just so much information on the best way to lose weight! Ok now that I got that out, it is time to stop feeling sorry for myself.

I am trying to eat healthier and exercise regularly. My first goal is to simply stop focusing so much on numbers and on creating healthier habits. Ultimately I just want to love myself whatever my shape.

Hello i'm knew!

So this is my first time joining a forum of any kind. I'm a little shy. Anyway I am for the first time trying to be healthier and more active. I have never been into sports(or good at them), and have always been a fan of relaxing at home with a good book or movie. I guess I am a couch potato. I also work overnights and find I have little motivation to workout. So I have been eating healthier and trying to add in exercise but find its hard to keep a routine. I also Love sweets :( which is a problem. I would love suggestions if anyone has advice.

The mind is the enemy

Hello out there, world!

I'm a 29 year old female who is looking to improve my eating habits. I'm currently trying to avoid hitting 160 pounds, which on my 5'7"ish frame isn't tooooo bad..... But it could be better. I'm not as concerned with the number on the scale as I am with going to bed at night knowing I made good decisions. I'm a sneaky eater and an emotional eater, so I tend to ruin the day after 8pm.

My exercise habits are sporadic. I do consider myself a runner, and have completed a number of races, but if I'm not training for a race I'm not doing ANYTHING. I haven't tried enough things to find anything besides running that I enjoy. Of course I would love to change that. I'd also love to eventually be able to do some real push-ups, haha.

Anyway..... I wanted to get this diary started before I chickened out.... More to come in the very near future!

It's MY time!

Today is my first day on this forum! I have decided I need a little more support on this weight-loss journey of mine. I have been at it for 7 weeks now, and have lost 16.1 pounds. It has been hard, but I am doing it. I look forward to getting to know you all and giving/receiving support as well.

I posted this in reply to another posted a little bit ago, but I wanted to start my diary off with it, so I can have it and remind myself of it often:

Motivation fails me all the time. I don't use motivation. What has helped me is to be accountable to someone until momentum kicks in. For example, anything negative in my life (a bad day at work to a death in the family and everything in between) can steel my motivation. But when momentum kicks in, even when negative events happen, I still do what I need to do. In the beginning, however, when I am building momentum, I have to be accountable to someone. Take exercise, for example. I have been exercising (cardiovascular) for at least 30 minutes every day for over 7 weeks now. I started out calling the person I am accountable to every evening to let them know what I did for exercise and for how long. (I still call everyday, by the way, even though momentum has kicked in.) So now that I have 49 days straight of exercising, I don't want to ruin that streak. So if something negative happens in my life, and it does and it will, I exercise anyway. Momentum does not fail me. It is the way to go!

It is Sunday, the start of a new week, the start of new opportunities to fill the week. I want it to be a great week -- one day at a time, one meal at a time, one step at a time. Most of my weight loss journey has been negative and depressing so far. I am tired of that. Time to be positive (at least most of the time.)

New Here

Hi Everyone. I was hoping to find an online support group for weight loss. I have been working hard to lose weight for 7 weeks now and have lost 16.1 pounds. It has been hard for me, and so I decided I needed some more support. I hope this group fits the bill! I look forward to getting to know all of you!

By Many Easy Ways

So its been a week and...

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I am 20, 5' 5" and I used to weigh 64kg. I'm trying to slim that down. The first few weeks have been a little tricky because its Ramadan, so I fast all day and end up eating two small meals (~1200cal/day). For two weeks of this I lost about a kg each week, but this week I have lost nothing. I'm stuck at 62, even though I've started light workouts in the evening. Last Ramadan I lost 2kg without even trying so this doesn't actually feel like progress.

I've tried weight loss properly only once before and I steadily lost 4kg at a rate of 1kg/week. This was with a similar plan of low calories (about 1200 in three small meals) and light exercise (about 25 mins a day).

I'm really enjoying working out but I know that if I don't start seeing results again I'm going to give up before I even begin training more intensely. A week of no results is really frustrating me ( and I know that sounds silly given that I've only been doing this for three weeks, but I'm pretty impatient and I started stressing about this on Tuesday).

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated! x

Seattle Sue's Diary

At 168 pounds and 5'4", I am the same size I was when nine-months pregnant. That worked then because I had the baby and lost all the weight, but it doesn't work now. My goal weight is 150 simply because I haven't been that "skinny" since I was 50 yo (now 65).

I am not just a bunch of numbers, but I have developed sizable love handles. To be honest, I feel like a blimp. The moderator said to answer these questions:

-- How much weight do you want to lose? answered--18 pounds

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? four months

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? exercise and diet

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? I need to keep track of emotional eating. I hope the forum will help to keep me on track.

-- How realistic is your goal? It is achievable with constant diligence.

-- When will you start? I have already ramped up my exercise and started eating more fruits and veggies. I do an hour of water aerobics three days a week, and I walk for 30 minutes every day.

Restarting an old journey

Hello to all,

My name is Mike and I am beginning a new path to a healthier and more fulfilling life. I am 22, 5'10 almost 5'11 and weigh in at 260 (yikes I know). Side note: why do people think it's ok to refer to me as big man, big guy, big boy, fat, you know I got a name too! Anyways, I have made the all time mistake, I dropped from my peak weight of 275 to 178 about 2 years ago. But with acquiring a full time job that required a 80 mile drive and a demanding 6+ day a week schedule, I let everything I have worked for slip. I shot back up to 260 in a matter of 10 months and ended up losing my position based on transportation issues. So here I am, back to square one. It just really sucks because I feel like I worked so hard for nothing. Anyways, here I am ready to get my life and health back on track.

Start:260

Goal:180

All thoughts, comments, feedback or suggestions are beyond welcome.

Thank you

Can you follow the Paleo Diet as a working professional?

So I have recently had some health issues and my doctor has recommended i check out the paleo diet/lifestyle. It seems really awesome in theory but i want to know how do you guys figure out if something is paleo if your at a restaurant with friends or coworkers and when your shopping at the grocery store and does it require a lot of ahead of time planning because Im not sure if I can follow something super strict but Id like to know how you guys deal with that. Thanks guys

Good meal planning programs and techniques?

What and whose meal plans are you guys following? How do you stay true to them even when working and having a social life? Its been hard for me to do both and i wanted to see what you guys were doing and I also want to hear what kind of struggles you guys have with meal planning and weight tracking?

What are the best Motivation techniques for healthy dieting?

Im Tim. 28 years old and long time dieter. I have always had the issue of staying motivated. I want to know how do you guys stay motivated on a diet for prolonged periods of time. Is it a person you do the diet with that encourages you or is it seeing your results through a progress tracker? Let me know!

Hi there!

First of all - hello everyone!

I am really excited about registering here, because I never tried getting into weight loss community before. :D

I'm 22 male from Poland.

3 years ago I've had heart surgery due to my natural issue since I was born, and after that sadly I started gaining weight.

I was pretty active before, but after surgery I was a little limited at first and then I think I just grew roots and gave up on some of my activities, some of them I wasn't able to do anymore, and this way I started gaiing weight.

Currently I would like to loose around 30kgs (65lbs), and I am highly motivated to change my lifestyle. I believe that being part of community with similar goal would make it much easier for me, and hopefully I'll be able to help others as well. This way I can manage to live healthy and active again.

Looking forward to posting more!

First Time

I'll give my complete story. This is a first for me, so here goes.

I've always been the chunky one. The fluffy girl. Skinny or fit was never in my vocabulary. Working out...never was easy for me. I always huffed and puffed. I had super fit parents. A mom that used to be a cheerleader and always below weight and a dad who was a bodybuilder. It was easy for them so I assumed it would be for me. I used to stash snacks in my room and was around 198lb when I was 21. I tried things like Slim Fast and Visalus. Only losing about 10lbs and never fully taking it seriously.

After having my only son almost eight years ago, I was up to 232lbs.

Food was my comfort. Always has been. Sad, mad, happy, glad...eat, eat, and more eat. My blood pressure rose, weight rose, and snacking never ceased.

A year ago I went to the gym religiously. I went from the 230's down to 219lb. The lowest I had ever been in years. I had worked up to running almost 2 miles a day, aerobics classes, and weight lifting. I was at the gym every single day. Our life took a turn for the worse and we had to move away. I fell out of the loop gm wise and turned back to food.

I don't know what clicked differently this time. I'm three months away from being 30 and something clicked to where I don't feel the same as I look. I started getting back into a routine at home. Since July 9th, I am down 6lbs. My heaviest being 246 when I started. I don't want back to that again.

So I am doing walking DVDs, changed my diet drastically to eliminating pop/bread/chips/snacks, calorie counting, a food journal, yoga, and beginner HIIT, not eating out.

Everyday is a struggle inside. Another day that I've made it with hooding what I eat carefully, is a success. And I'm not going to give up :hurray:

How To Get Those Extra Pounds Off

There are so many products available on the weight loss market that it can be challenging to know what is the best for you to choose from. These products can be helpful, and it is a great idea to do enough research on each of them to know what will work best for you and your lifestyle.

An important part of any weight loss journey is learning to control your own food. This means learning to cook from scratch, so that you know exactly what's going into the foods you eat. Also, cooking from scratch will let you replace high-calorie ingredients such as cream, with lower-calorie ones such as skim milk.

If you want to make a lifestyle change that will help you to lose weight now and keep it off in the future, switch from drinking coffee to green tea. The caffeine in coffee can cause you to retain water and become dehydrated. The antioxidants in green tea not only help you to feel better, they can also aid in maintaining a healthy weight.

If you are accustomed to using large amounts of sugar in your food (coffee, tea, baking, etc.), one way to help yourself lose weight is to consider switching to a sucralose-based sweetener like Splenda. You will get the sweet taste you crave without all the calories, which will lower your daily caloric intake.

One of the best ways to lose weight is by eating grapefruit. Studies have shown that when grapefruit is eaten with protein, it triggers fat burning and in turn, causes weight loss. So the next time you go grocery shopping, grab some grapefruit when you enter the produce area.

You will find that of you eat walnuts it will help you lose weight. One study revealed that eating walnuts with breakfast kept people feeling fuller than those who didn't have walnuts. Walnuts are also great by themselves.

If you want to eat better, you should eat a healthy breakfast. Skipping breakfast is definitely not a good thing. A good breakfast should contain a fruit, a serving of dairy and some fiber. You can eat a banana, a bowl of healthy cereal and some yogurt. You could also, drink a glass of orange juice, eat a couple of pieces of toast and some cream cheese.

You should avoid eating muffins for breakfast. Muffins are usually high in fat and sugar content. They are made from processed white flour which is devoid of nutrients. When the sugar is burned off in the morning, you will feel very tired and low in energy. A muffin does not provide you with the essential nutrients that you need for a good start in the morning.

Although products are not the only thing needed to aid you in your journey to lose weight, they can certainly give you an extra edge. These products will all give you their added benefits and when put together with a healthy diet and regular exercise, you will find yourself losing weight faster than you thought you would.

Good cardio session but feeling fat around the midsection.

I love running in hot weather and usually do a 2 mile run in under 30 minutes. Sometimes I'll sprint for a bit then do steady pace. Although I don't run in the winter months because I seem to get shin splints when the weather is colder, I do prefer to run in hot weather. I weight train about 4 days a week. I've noticed some muscle gains around the shoulders, biceps, forearms, thighs and chest. I've not noticed any fat loss, and still have droopy pecs, despite concentrating on upper pec work only. I eat relatively clean, and have reduced sugary stuff and caffeine but not completely. I know go for packs of cappucino and half it and use with some reduced fat cocoa. The caffeine is never strong, but I believe along with the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, I get a good workout with it. I do feel slimmer and more muscular and certainly able to run and not get out of breath - I can lift more heavier weights than I used to.

It's just that after a jog or run I feel puffy around the midsection and sometimes around the buttocks (although I have been doing squats on the Smithmachine). I feel a little puffy around the face, but have noticed a slimmer face around the temples and jaw line. But my cheeks are puffy. I've upped my water intake but nothing has changed.

People say I look slimmer. And I know that you cannot spot reduce. But I wish things would just speed up a bit for me, and this feeling fat around the midsection and buttocks is not welcomed.

Getting Healthy

Time to keep a diary of all the weight loss and toning emotions and progress. This seems like a good place for it. Disclaimer: there might be far too much venting so sorry in advance! So into this, so, so, so up for losing now. Got two months until I start uni, I can make this count.

30 Day Shred and running is going well so far.

Hang in there, Chloe.

New Here

Hello! I've tried weight loss and toning a few times but I've been very busy studying so it's been difficult to get into. But it's summer now and I have every intention of getting fit! Whilst I'm not overweight, I am unfit and do have some weight to lose. I need a community like this to keep me motivated. I'm currently running ~2 miles per day and I'm on day 3 of the 30 Day Shred. Hopefully I'll be sticking around for a while. Nice to meet you all. :)

Eating healthier and physical work out are both key elements of reducing bodyweight, but there are additional guidelines that you can use to help you shed bodyweight. This is a person who can work out with you, whether your work out includes going to a regional gym or just going for a walk at a regional shopping mall. Another way that you can go about efficiently accomplishing your target weight-loss is by spicing up your exercises. As earlier mentioned, you can use the health and fitness publications to discover exercises for you to do at home. To help decrease the dullness often associated with training you will want to change up your exercises, often on a frequent basis. For example, one day you may want to use a fitness treadmill machine, the next day you may want to strength train, and the next day you may want to do an work out DVD, and so forth.

You should also consider making work out and consuming healthily records or publications for yourself. These items can be used to track your improvement. If you have a excellent 7 days, like one where you finished all of your exercises, you may want to think about fulfilling yourself. Your compensate doesn’t have to include food; it can be something as simple as a tag or dealing with yourself to a movie. newbee with a belly

Hi all.

I'm trying to turn my life around. I'm a 31 year old male weighing 16 1/2 stone. I'm 5ft 10.

I've just started a new job that will require me to work shifts, twelve hours on days and nights. Obviously I will be getting quite alot of time off during the week and when the kids are at nursery and the wife is at work I can use my time to try and lose some weight.

I'm getting concerned that I'm getting a round and firm belly and to many chins and I'm worried that I won't be able to lose them.

I'm planning on cycling to work when on nights, which is 13 miles each way but is relatively flat and cycling is something that I enjoy, unlike running which I can't bring myself to do. I use to play alot of rugby. I could play rugby all day with no issues, but ask me to go for a run and I can run 2 or 3 miles and them give up.

I'm trying to eat healthy to. Fruit in a morning as I drive to work usually with a small sandwich for lunch and a meal on a night, usually some type of meat with veg or rice/pasta. I drink water during the day and fruit juice on a night.

Has anyone got any tips to help me lose weight please. I would love to be 14st but I seem to be struggling to first of all find motivation and also see any results.

Hope someone can help

Thanks for reading 📖

New guy from Pittsburgh,Pa

Hey guys,

My name Adam, I'm 24 years old, 6' tall, and weigh 325lbs. I decided to join this site for words of encouragement, support, and for helpful tips along the way.

- My non-physical goals are: To reclaim a healthy lifestyle and get my unhealthy eating habits under control.

- Physically I'd like to be able to wear a XXL Shirt, Size 40 pants. Currently I'm at a 3x shirt and 46 or 44 size pants.

- Running has always been a weak spot for me, so running 1 mile without stopping in 10 minutes will be a major accomplishment for me.

Food is "fun" for me. I love to watch tv shows about food, reading food blogs, and try new restaurants. I'm a fast food junkie, cheeseburgers are my all time favorite. Pizza is my second true love lol. My third true love is bar food.... Going out drinking heavily on the weekends and crushing wings & sandwiches is an Olympic sport for me!

Growing up, I've always been a big guy but was always involved in sports. I played football from 3rd grade untill I graduated and wrestled from middle school through college. I was a standout wrestler, and wrestled the heavyweight division (285 lbs max weight) I earned 8 varsity letters between football and wrestling, aka I never rode the bench.

I graduated high school in 2009 at 270lbs and have gradually gained the weight in college and after I stopped wrestling in 2010. I'm just tired of letting my weight hold be back and tired of living an unhealthy lifestyle. My biggest challenge to over come will be quitting after a few days and having the " oh well tomorrow I'll get started" mentality.

If you actually read through my entire ramblings, thank you. I look forward to sharing my journey with everyone here.

New to Forum - Almost There!

Hello,

I thought I'd join and contribute, since I really enjoy reading about other people's stories and struggles here. I never had a weight problem until I was in my mid-30's; high levels of activity and a high metabolism allowed me to eat and drink as much as I wanted and still weigh the same as I did in high school. I'm 6'1" and I was about 165 lbs. I remember many nights eating a whole package of salisbury steaks, a half a loaf of white bread, a six pack of beer or Pepsi, and a whole box of Reese's peanut butter cup minis! That was just my evening meal and the rest of my day was similarly decadent (and awesome?). Around age 35 I got a desk job and the pounds started to creep on. By the time I was 40 I was in the 225 lbs. range and I had to watch what I ate much more carefully. Now here I am at 52 years old, and I sometimes wonder where all the years have gone.

In October, 2012 I reached my heaviest weight ever and I was a whopping 315 lbs. I felt horrible and tired all the time and my eyesight started to fail; I was a mess. I decided that I wanted to stay around for awhile and by simply cutting down on sodas and beer and not pigging out at every meal I got down to about 270 lbs. Then around new years 2014 I'd finally had enough and I started actually using my Planet Fitness membership and I strictly limited myself to 1000 calories per day. For the last 4 months I pretty much have been at the gym every single day working out. Day before yesterday I stepped on the balance at PF and I was finally able to use the 180 lbs. setting on the scale! That's right, I was a buck ninety eight and damned proud of myself. People that haven't seen me in awhile don't even recognize me and I'm elated with my success. Hard work and determination have gotten me this far and my goal is 185 lbs., so I am practically there. I'm actually happy where I am now, but my job requires me to be in the health coaching program if I'm "overweight" according to their BMI chart and I'm going to go down to 185, so I don't have to mess with that crap anymore. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm over-the-moon with joy and feel better than I have in more than a decade. So far it has been more than worth the sacrifice and effort.

I need help !!!

Hello everyone!I am new and I'm happy to be here,

I find myself with extra pounds after childbirth

And I need help

Binge eater in need of support!!!

Hi everybody, I'm new here and looking to find some mutual support.

I've just finished uni (mature student) and after months of putting it off, I've weighed myself! I've never had problems with my weight before however after years of eating on the go and laziness I'm stuck.

Until 3 years ago I was always 9 stone (size 10) without much effort (running a few times a week) but I'm now 12 stone (size 14) and can literally feel my weight increasing everyday. I feel full and bloated all the time. I realise that I'm not huge, but I'm so self conscious that I'm now struggling to leave the house because of what I look like. I'm a typical hourglass shape, and while sexy on Nigella Lawson isn't so sexy on the girl next door who's confidence is at rock bottom and who's wardrobe consists of black leggings and tank tops (I look fat)! I know women are meant to be curvy but my body is a disgusting shape, from the front my hips are really wide, my legs are really short because of thigh fat and my boobs are too big (34E, I used to be B/C).

I'd like to say that I've put my all into losing weight this past month but I'm struggling without any support. My Mum told me I was over weight the other day and instead of going for a run, I stuffed my face with chocolate, crisps and biscuits. I know what I'm meant to do, 6 years ago I was pregnant with my daughter and left hospital in size 10 jeans, but I don't know how to do it. If I'm hungry, stressed, angry, upset or happy I binge. Sometimes making myself sick just so I can do it again!

Every second of every day I think about my weight and what I look like. My relationship broke up because I was obsessed with my weight, and my friends have slowly disappeared because its all I talk about. It seems the more obsessed I get, the bigger I get!

Untimely from this joining this site I'd like to meet somebody interested in healthy weight loss, who I can support and who can support me.

Hi everybody, I am the one with exponential weight gain!!!

Hi,

I found this forum really useful

I never had any problem with weight so i never wrote in any forum related but now i really need some tips or clue cuz i am totally confused! this situation might lead to a disaster or absolute depression for me!

I am not a person with shining metabolic history since my childhood i had laziness of thyroid gland! but i have used its drug for almost whole of mylife and until age 24 i was a super active person in gyms and doing lots of sport in summers only.super confident over my body others were jealous of my shape. I never had complains though it always seemed that more fat is stored always in bottom than top. 169cm length keeping always a weight around 63kg was not of much effort. but since last two years i came to most coldest area of Canada (while i live before in Asia) gaining weight has become a top issue for me. I was ok the first three months but as the temperature went down -20 i ate more and more chocolate i feel always cold even in 30 centigrade but imagine in -20!!!! it became summer though i did some light walking and exercise my weight reached 67kg (it was around 64kg before moving to Canada) not that bad i try not to eat fatty food but it just kept increasing! next winter it reached 72kg and almost gaining 1kg each month right now! if it continues to this manner i should be over 80kg by the end of the year! i am just terrified right now (75kg!!!!!!!!!) i never go to eat fast foods sometimes I make Pizza by my own. However honestly there are some elements that i never ate before or i didnt have in my country. For example Salmon i eat them often or those cute fruity low caloric yoghourt and coffee! chocolate soy milk, cheeses and really low amount of rice. I used to eat rice alot but here i cant find good one. whole grain toast bread i use them instead of that traditional bread in our home before. what a pity! but overall i see people eating these stuffs and they are super mince

I am out of my mind right now i check my weight every two weeks and it just seems going up. I am kindof person happy with my life not stressful that much and in term of health issue i was kinda diagnosed suspicious to have with poly cystic ovary syndrome but anyway i always had my periods not on time and a bad imbalance in my prolactine it is always fluctuating it is around 9 years! 9 years ago i used anti conception drugs one year and after that it happened and kind of imbalance without any diagnosed reason by doctors saying to me that i have to get along with that. sorry my story was a long one but i really didnt know what to do. going to a nutritionist is useless cuz i dont have insurance . I have given thyroid tests sugar and routine blood tests recently everything was acceptable. I am pissed off right now with even looking myself in the mirror plz sb just for Gods sake give me some clue what to do

Hi! I'm Petya and I have a problem with bingo wings or fat on the upper arms...

Hi, I'm 24 years old not obese (around 60 kg, height- 164sm.) but I still do have some loose skin on my upper arms. I was wondering if there are people who experience the same problems and what methods do you use to fight that ugliness.. I need something quick and efficient!

Why does everyone seem to think Muscle weighs more than Fat?

A pound of Fat weighs just as much as a pound of Muscle! The density may be different and even though density and weight are related, they are different. It drives me crazy when people say that. Maybe I'm the crazy one, what do you think?

Density = mass(weight)/volume

Looking to help others lose weight!!

Hi, my name is David and I'm 25 years old. I enjoy helping others reach their fitness goals just like I had someone to help me. I know what it is like to lack motivation, support and really just any idea of how to exercise to get in shape. It took me a long time and a lot of help from others but I got into a solid routine and now I want to pay it forward and help others. If you want help with exercising ideas, healthy eating, or just want support in this journey I would love to help. If you are interested just message me with your fitness goals and where you are struggling. I look forward to working with you. Have a great day!!

Weight Loss Tips To Make Losing Weight Easy And Healthy

First, be at your ideal weight is healthier than being overweight. Second, health tips for losing weight will produce better results than a crash diet.

Tip # 1: Diets that severely restrict the foods you eat and the calories you consume are not the best choice. You feel deprived, the risk to cheat on your diet, and even get sick from lack of nutrition. If you focus on nutrition instead, you will lose weight, stay healthy, and be happy with what you eat.

The key to a nutritious diet with a weight loss plan is to make sensible decisions. All the major food groups, many foods that are low in calories but rich in nutritional value. Fresh products are naturally low in calories, and contains a lot of nutrition.

Lean protein, whole grains and dairy products should be on your daily menu. If you read the labels before buying a product, you can find many options with fewer calories. Keep your body healthier while you lose weight.

Tip # 2: Water has a variety of roles when considering advice weight loss. The water will cause waste and impurities from your body is empty, and help you stay hydrated. When you drink water before, during and between meals, it can act as a natural appetite suppressant. You do not feel as hungry if you drink plenty of water.

Tip # 3: Hormonal fluctuations can affect your ability to lose weight. There are some steps you can take to keep your hormone levels stable. One is to get enough sleep. Another is to reduce stress. Both stages will have a positive effect on the hormones.

Tip # 4: Weight loss should not mean sacrificing nutrition. Like any diet can provide all the nutrients you need, including vitamin supplements in your daily routine.

Many experts agree that supplements of individual vitamins are preferable to multivitamins. Single supplements work better and faster. Choose natural supplements instead of supplements that contain fillers or additives. When you take supplements, be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging. Never use more than the label recommends.

The Mental Effects Of Weight Loss

I recently read the story of a woman who, after losing 180 pounds, began to feel that he had lost his identity. Losing weight is lost. Instead of weight loss that all their problems are fixed, which made where feel secure in their own skin.

Achieve your goal of weight loss does not always have the desired effect on your self-confidence.

Like many of us, she believes that the fantasy that if I could lose weight in your life would be better. This is an idea that is perpetuated by the media. We are taught to equate happiness with thinness in life at an early age. Most of us believe that, probably because many of us will never know what it is that to successfully achieve our ideal weight. This is something I have trouble with most of my life and when I do get my weight "ideal" body "ideal" has changed. Long story short, I've never been satisfied.

It's like the fantasy of being with a man, then marry her. What do you really do when you get married and the fantasy becomes your reality and face the fact that he is not perfect? Suddenly, the man who dreamed of being our knight in shining armor is just a human being. He farts, burps and snores. Of course, it is always cute and sweet, but where did the romance go and why is still here?

Why do we never realized before leaving socks on the floor and he is obsessed with hockey? What happened to date night? And where the hell did these kids come from? When he became human? This is the weight loss that is similar. It's great to do for your health, but like most things in life, will not solve all your problems.

When fantasy becomes reality, it is not always what we expected. Suddenly you find yourself living in the shoes of another person and you do not know who you are older. You get to your ideal weight and your life is not perfect because weight loss is not going to change who you are as a person. Not magically make you the perfect life. At best, you can not change what they seem. It is not a magic cure for all their problems. In fact, it may be the beginning of a new set of problems if it becomes too therein.

If you are obese, losing weight will probably make you feel better physically and can make you feel more confident, but it is not a magic pill. It will not heal the emotional or psychological problems. They should be treated separately. People who are thin and fit may have fewer health problems than someone who is overweight, but still have their own problems. Being thin is not a protected status. There is no guarantee that if you're thin, you'll be happy, beautiful or perfect. It's just something our hopes and dreams; blame our unhappiness in life.

Sensible Weight Loss Strategies

Are you confused by the number of weight loss strategies out there? If so, you're not alone. Before reducing fat, calories or carbs, what do you do? In fact, most of these diets may work, but some may be difficult to achieve for a long time. The key is to get a diet plan for life that works for you!

Most nutritionists advise clients simply overweight limit your diet moderate and reasonable. This, combined with additional exercise can produce the best results while maintaining people's health. Apparently, this is not as easy as it seems, judging by the number of people who fail to lose weight and keep it off!

One of the best tips for weight loss is to supplement your body into thinking it has a lot to eat while restricting calories. This can be done by eating lots of healthy fiber and fresh produce. A big salad seem much more food than a small portion of meat or bread. More time is needed to eat, and this can help your body feel more full.

For example, conducted a study that put the test. In recent days, the volunteers received pasta with meat sauce. They were allowed to take as much as they wanted and even return for a second helping. Doctors measure the amount of pasta and sauce each volunteer was food.

After a few days, doctors have changed the recipe, adding quite low calorie vegetables to the sauce. This reduces the amount of calories in each portion of sauce. What is surprising is that the volunteers had no more to compensate. Apparently, these volunteers satisfactory volume ration food and no calories!

They may have even done consciously, but his brain wanted to eat as many bites feel like they have a good meal. This study concluded that one of the tactics is to add low calorie foods for a meal. Our bodies still feel like they have enough to eat!

How can you do at home? If you make your own pasta, you can try the same deal. Add vegetable sauce mixture near the end of the cooking process. You can also be sure that you use a service attractive salad or vegetables at every meal you make. In the morning, you can add fruit or a fruit salad too.

This "trick" can also help you eat enough fruits and vegetables every day to ensure that you get all the nutrients you need. If you want to lose weight, you must be satisfied with the amount of food you eat or be tempting to cheat. Adding more foods low in calories for a meal, instead of taking things away really seems to be a very good strategy for weight loss long term.

Time's a Wastin, and I'm Still Fat.

It's late and I don't have the energy to do a big long write up, but for those of you that have been here for a while you will remember my old thread "Burlesque Babe". Though that thread had many triumphs in the beginning, where I lost 30 pounds, it ended in too many failures, where I tried again and again to re-lose the 25+ pounds I regained.

So I'm starting a new thread to try to finally concur this issue. I'm running out of time for 'being young' and I really want to look beautiful while I'm still young. I want to wear a bikini and feel great, I want to wear a tight top, with tight jeans, and not worry about the muffin top. I want to feel comfortable with a member of the opposite sex touching me. I also really need to get this under control before my metabolism starts to slow down. I have several aunts who were like me when they were younger, a little overweight, nothing crazy, and now they weigh 300+. You always think 'how could someone let themselves get that way', but when I really think about it, the instant my metabolism slows down, with the way I eat, I'm there.

I will try to weigh tomorrow morning, but it will be close to 170. Even my fat clothes are feeling tight. Last summer I could go to the beach in a bikini and, though I was still not at an ideal weight, I could at least not wear a cover up at all times I wasn't in the water. I will be going camping this weekend, where there is a chance we will go to a river to swim, and I'm not sure I will even bring my suit.

I'm not sure what I will do as far as my 'plan'. I would like to exercise, maybe starting with my DVD's, then maybe the gym. As far as food, I'm not sure if I will count calories, of just try to cut back and be more conscious of what I am eating.

I likely have about 45-50 pounds to lose. I believe I need to be 140 to no longer be considered overweight, and would like to weigh around 120 or so (depending on how I look and feel when I get to around that weight). It will be a long, hard road (that will have to last the rest of my life) but it is so worth it .

I am looking forward to catching up on the fantastic people I knew from last time who are still workin it! As well as 'meet' new people who are giving it a go!

I don't know what to eat, where to start

I'm 16, 5'9 170 lbs and I'm trying to get to 155-160 until September. I heard many great things about doing jump rope first thing in the morning before you eat anything. I basically do 30 minutes of jump rope (1 minute skipping 1 minute break) and then I do some push-ups, abs, squats ..a full body workout, and then I eat. Do you think this is gonna help me lose those pounds ? Of course, I'm also eating healtier and less than before. My daily meals are usually:

Breakfast: milk with corn flakes/biscuits

Snack: banana/apple/orange

Lunch: Pasta with meat/fish/vegetables

Snack: Nutella/Peanut butter sandwich

Dinner: Meat/Fish

I must say that I know this is not the best diet but this is what I've always eaten, but if you have any suggestions for me, I'd love to hear them. Just keep in mind that I live in Italy and for example I've never seen oatmeal around here so I just stick with the food that my parents buy, since I live with them. And oh, I know it's not the best thing but they usually use white bread and white pasta. And also, I'm drinking only water, and trying to avoid soda and junk food as much as I can.

I want to lose weight, please help

I'm a 16 years old guy, 5'9 who weighs 170. I used to weigh about 150-155 in 2013 when I was playing tennis but I had a knee problem so I stopped exercising and my 4 pack became no-pack abs and I start seeing love handles. Right now my knee issue is gone so I want to go back to 150-155 maybe until September-October, if you think that's possible. Basically since I'm in vacation and I have plenty of time I do 30 minutes of jump rope first thing in the morning (1 minute skipping 1 minute rest), then I do some abs and push-ups, squats then I eat. My daily meals are usually:

Breakfast: milk with corn flakes/biscuits
