Revisional Surgery

StomaphyX is a device designed to assist in the process of weight loss. The procedure to insert the StomaphyX mechanism is the first FDA approved non-invasive bariatric surgery treatment. No incisions are made during the StomaphyX insertion process and there is no cutting or rerouting of the digestive system. Because there are no permanent alterations or invasive measures, the recovery time is faster than with open or laparoscopic weight loss proceduresperformed in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC and throughout the U.S.

Without the need for abdominal or internal surgical incisions, the StomaphyX device allows a reduction in the size of the stomach to occur. Using a fiberoptic gastroscope or endoscope, the esophagus and stomach are easily accessed. The StomaphyX appliance is lowered through the mouth then down the esophagus and into the stomach pouch with the presence of the endoscope allowing for greater visibility. Once inside the stomach pouch, the StomaphyX tool pleats and staples the stomach making the pouch smaller. The pouch is reduced in size and made less flexible, resulting in slower emptying of the stomach, restriction of food intake and a faster relay of the message of satiety to the body.

This revolutionary procedure is now available from our weight loss surgeons serving Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia. The StomaphyX insertion procedure attracts those wanting an alternative to invasive surgical methods. It may further benefit previous bariatric surgery patients seeking additional weight loss and food intake restrictions, as well as those experiencing complications brought on by previous procedures.

Although gastric bypass surgery is successful in achieving an average of 60 to 80% excess weight loss, some patients may experience weight regain or desire additional restriction to help continue their loss of excess weight. Without having to undergo additional traditional surgery, StomaphyX helps gastric bypass patients eat less and lose more weight. Because of its non-invasive nature, it preserves future treatment options and in most cases, is performed on an outpatient basis. It is an essentially painless form of bariatric surgery offering the freedom of future adjustments and/or revisement.
