IFS to Xtra 10 on sks wedge chassis

Ok so first post here bit if used to this forum as a tool for a long time.

I just finished swapping in a 133.5" xtra-10 skid on my '93 Indy 500 SKS with very little problems. So now I'm working on swapping in the front. Keep in mind the sks has a 36.5" ski stance that I'd like to keep. So I have A full donor with non crc. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before. I know the radius rods will have to be shortened does anyone have an actual measurement. Also any other tips to make this go smoothly are appreciated.

Thanks

96 Cougar MC - need ski recommendations

Howdy,

I am in need of ski recommendations for the 1996 Cougar Mountain Cat that we are resurrecting after sitting unused for the last decade. The stock skis are rusty pieces of crap and I would like to make the move to plastic skis. I am getting too old to care about going fast and furious so comfort and control are more important to me. The main use will be trail riding but, since one never knows when they will have to go off the trail, it would be nice to have something that will also at least give me a fair shot in the fluffy stuff.

Of course I don't want to spend any more than necessary but I don't want to cheap out and regret it.

I was looking at the Kimpex Rush skis but I can't seem to find much in the way of reviews from users.

Thanks for any input that you might offer.

550 indy starter problem

The last day I rode my 2014 550 Indy LXT back in January (in Minnesota) the starter failed to engage all the way and made a terribly loud screeching/grinding noise when I hit the starter button. I let go then gave it another try, the second time it engaged normally and the engine started and ran fine. I put the sled away that night for the year then forgot about it when I flew back home to WA.

The battery was in good condition and fully charged as far as I know. When the starter engages properly the engine turns over rapidly. Might there be a loose connection on the starter that keeps it from fully engaging? Thanks.

Installing Boyesen reeds on Phazer- Is this normal?

Has anyone installed the Boyesen Dual-stage reeds before? I’m putting some on a Phazer II and I’m wondering if this is normal:

After tightening the reeds down, the bottom reeds don’t appear to be sealing completely against the reed cage. They are sitting slightly open; about a few thousands. The top reeds; however, appear to be sealing flat against the bottom reeds.
I have tried turning them over as the instructions suggested, but it didn't make any difference. That bottom reed sits slightly open either way.

I’m wondering if this is normal and will perform as they should, or do I have something else going on? My stock reeds and cages worked just fine and are in perfect shape. I’m just doing upgrades during its down time. I’ve read that the Boyesen reeds are highly recommended so I wanted to give them a try.

Thanks,

ZR 200 specs

I'm interested in the 2018 ZR 200 (or the new Sno Scoot) for my wife to use. She is less than five foot/100 pounds and tends to putt along slowly on the trails with our 2-seat 550 lxt, so we think she will be more comfortable on a small sled. She has driven an older 2-stroke Phazer in the past, but even that was a bit heavy for her to operate. Something that is more than 350 lbs is probably a deal killer; something that heavy / expensive and equipped with a modified 9 HP power washer engine is over-priced in my opinion.

The trouble is the manufacture's website is a poor source of information and while the local dealer has promised me info on basic stuff like dry weight, they have so far not come through.

Anyone know anything about these new sleds other than the little info they have online? Thanks.

Lost and Found

I'm sure this has happened to many people, but the other day took the sleds out to do some spring skiing and ran into an abandoned ski-doo. It was at the bottom of a pretty size-able hill and was not running. Looked like it had been left there for sometime, Took some extra parts out of our combined tool kits and got the sled up and running. Looks like the owner had put an aftermarket can on it and never actually re-tuned the carb or anything. Fouling plugs like crazy. Moral of the story we got this sled out and took it home. How do I find the owner of the sled? VIN number look up? Registration?

Reasoning for taking it out of there -- (cause I know the trolls will rage) it is not an accessible place in the summer and there is about 2 weeks left in the snow pack for retrieving the sled, looks as though it was left for dead, and of course if you can get it running why wouldn't you ride it out?!?!?! :cheeky4:

Still sledding

We got another 5" in the mountains last night, so I had to get out there and take advantage of it. The snow was great, really set up under the new stuff, it would be hard to get stuck on a day like today!

More snow is expected tonight, and I'm heading out again tomorrow. Mother Nature calls!

Little taste of Arctic Man

Small suspension bridge over the creek.

Normal years, you don't see any of those bushes. Snow is typically about 4-5' deeper.

3rd shot is what the skiers look at on the drop off. This year the snow was fairly hard and crusty, which meant for a very fast drop. 1700' in less than 2 miles.

4th picture is actually from a previous year. This is where the snowmobiler drops off the skier (via tow-rope) for the final leg of the race). Generally the snowmobiles are going around 80+ MPH with the skier in tow. This year, we could see rocks and bare ground up there.

2009 MXZ renegade 800r problems

Hey guys, picked up a 2009 MXZ renegade 800r. And now I've ran into a problem. Was a buddies sled. When I test road it the sled ran great. Now that it's home I now have a 4 beep check engine light and it acts like it is idiling on mag cylinder. I've checked compression, 148 pto 150 mag. Checked the Rave valves for movement and they both are moving. Went through the carbs. And I just can't seem to shake this problem. Could the check engine light cause a limp mod like this? Newest sled I've ever owned and I'm lost now.

Grinding noise in chaincase 2009 Skandic Tundra LT V800

Hi! I'm having problem with my snowmobile. There is a grinding noise coming from the chaincase while going forward and also while reversing. I hear the noise when I slowly press the gas. There is also metal shavings in the oil of the chaincase after just one ride. I did open up the chaincase to see if there was anything wrong with it... All the bearing seems ok and the chain too. Only have 6000km on the machine. The only thing that I notice was the 2 sprocket for the reverse seems to be grinding together a bit (the side of the teeth on the sprocket seems to be chip a bit). Could it just be an adjustment of the reverse??? Is it possible to hear that even in forward?? I also notice that something is grinding on the piece that change the chain to reverse (not sure how you call it) it is located on the chaincase cover.

XZ build

Hello,

I purchased my wife a Summit XZ and have been building it to be a more comfortable rider forward sled. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions once I get to the suspension and Motor.

My first ride... questions

I had a chance to head up near Vail Pass for some fun in the snow this past weekend. It was really, really fun. I was taking it really easy, with abundance of safety and caution.

Few things I've observed along the way:

1) The tunnel in the tail of the sled and right under the seat got pretty hot - why would that be, there is no exhaust there or anything.... could that be just from the friction of the snow hitting it repeatedly? There is nothing else under there....

2) The brand new drive belt that I've put on it has developed a noticeable whine towards the end of the outing. It was crying loud at lower speeds and would stop above 20mph. I suppose a belt adjustment is needed. It currently sits 1/8'' above the pulley's rim. Should I lower it to be more flush with the pulley rim?!

3) I've had the check engine light flicker on and off midway through the ride - it really worries me. I've seen the code flash across the display at times: 9-9 or 9--9, didn't stay on long enough. I've poured over the User Manuals for this machine but of course they don't cover Check Engine light or trouble codes in any detail. I'm having a local Ski-doo shop with BUDS equipment check it out on Fri.... I'm worried about it.

Would appreciate some guidance.

Below, the pic from last weekend's adventure:

Just for you, KC!

As promised, a few pics from Saturday. Sorry a few of them are on their side, I can't get them to stay rotated when I upload to the forum!

A friend's father in law is helping me measure, he's 80 years young and going strong on his RMK! The snow is about 8 feet deep in this area of the mountain.

Attachment 57098 Attachment 57106

Here's a pic of the parking area at the snow park. It is getting a little sparse down low...

Attachment 57114

Here's another friend with two of his grandsons, they were tearing it up all day on those sleds!

Attachment 57122

It's always tradition when someone gets stuck to get their picture BEFORE you go over to help ;)

Attachment 57130

It was a great day, temps were in the 60's. Leave the bibs at home and bring the sunscreen!!

Just for you, KC!

Mystery issue on a 1997 500 Indy.....

Ok, this one has me baffled....
I even got my neighbor over to help, since he has more experience, and it baffled him......

So, here is the story. I got a buddy a deal on three sleds, two 500's and one 400 Indy.

All of them have been out this season, and no issues. We went out last Thursday evening, and the '97 Indy 500 would not start. I put new plugs in, and it didn't start. So we took one of my sleds off my trailer and we went riding.

Fast forward to today. My neighbor and I went through the sled, trying to figure out why it didn't start.

First, we put starter fluid in the plug holes, and replaced the plugs. Tried to start it, nothing,,,, not even a pop...
Checked the plugs for spark, and they are getting spark, when grounded to the head. Checked compression, both cylinders at 90+. Fresh ethanol free fuel...
Checked key switch, stator, and kill switch, spark,,,, all appear to be good.
So, we both were stumped. Spark- Check, gas- Check, Compression- Check......
Anything else to check? It does not even sound like it wants to start.... When I hold the throttle open, you can hear the sound through the air box, so the carbs are letting in air.....
Just weird, cause it ran fine, and we put it on the trailer last time we rode it, and now....... nothing..

Any advice on what to check next?
