93 500 SKS EFI won't run

Hello all, I'm brand new to this whole forum thing but need some help. I'm working on my dad's 93 500 SKS EFI. We tried getting it going this year and the fuel pump wouldn't go. Found a parts sled and put the fuel pump in. Pulled the rope a few times and was able to get it running, perfect there was my problem. Well at least for that minute. Shut it off after a couple minutes of running and then it wouldn't fire, wouldn't run the pump, wouldn't send power to the pump. Unhooked the pump to check power and the engine started and ran without the pump even hooked up. Plugged the pump back in and no go again. It is now to the point again of no fire, no pump, no anything. Battery seems to be holding a charge and it did run once this year without the charger hooked up. Now when the machine is completely dead again I hooked up the charger and still nothing. I like tinkering but this thing is absolutely driving me up a wall. If anyone has some ideas and can call me sometime to talk about it or someone local to Fargo ND area that wants to work on it I'm open to getting this thing running again. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

93 Phazer II ST will not rev past 6000 rpm

Hey fellow snowmobilers. I am trying to trouble shoot this problem. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. It idels great and has great low end power and will rev great up to about 6,500 or so then it feels like it's missing. I did notice the gauge lights are dimmer and the tail running light is not working and at one point the headlight was slow to come on. I tried a different stator but that did not fix it. CDI box or ignition coil or voltage regulator i am thinking? Any guests before i spend money on one or the other?

Thanks

question 1001 about 2-stroke oil

Sorry I have searched the forum, but it is just to much information if you search for 2-stroke oil.

I have a Widetrack LX 1998. Liquid cooled engine 500cc.

Until now I have used Polaris SCL oil. I am pretty sure the former owner used the same. I have the sled 5 years now.
Polaris give not much information about the oil. 'synthetic blend'
So I guess it is half-synthetic. ( correct me if I'm wrong)

I like to switch to full synthetic oil from another brand. Can I just blend that in, or should I empty the reservoir?
Cleaning the pump? Lines?

What is the easiest way to switch safe?

The reason that I want to switch is that the full syntetic cost less than 50% of the price of the SCL-oil. And I expect that I will drive a lot more this winter than the winters before.

2012 Sno Pro 600 Clutching

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help with the clutching on my 600. It has the stock Sx clutching right now. I ordered hypershift and will be doing 660ft for hill climb. Some tracks require the strong backshift as they have corners etc. Is the Hypershift what I need as is? or are there any tweaks that I should do to get the most.

Thank you,

Handlebar Heater Wiring Diagram?

I should have taken a picture when I removed the handlebars for where each wire goes for the grip heaters. The plastic connectors were pretty self explanatory from the main harness to the other plastic connectors, but I can't really remember how the grip heater wires hooked up. Anyone give me some insight? I was wondering if the thumb heater was hooked to it's own set of wires and the grip heaters were hooked together with one male lead and one female lead from each and then hook the other two remaining leads from each heater into the main harness? I'm not sure if that makes sense but I think you get what I'm asking. Boy a picture would be handy!

'83 SRV 540 Skid/Suspension Swap?

Good morning, brand new here to the forum. Recently got back into snowmobiling, and picked up an '83 Yamaha SRV 540 in very good condition. Just like the one I had growing up. I need to rebuild the carb, but the engine has good compression.

I am looking at modifying my sled, and was wondering what options are out there for potentially replacing and/or modifying the skid and suspension? I wanted to see if any of you had experience doing this, and could possibly let me know what to look for and what would work for my sled. Glad to be here and look forward to hearing from you all, and thanks again!

Clutch clicking.

Sled is a 1996 Indy 500.

In short my clutch is making a clicking noise as it spins. Best way to describe the sound would be to think about a piece of plastic held against a fan blade. It's loud enough to hear over the engine, but as far as I can tell it's only happening between 3500-6000 rpms. A few things to note:

- 3 weeks ago I changed the spring I. The primary to a longer one. One of the bolts sheared off inside the clutch cover. I got it out and ended up breaking my tap fixing g the threads. Ended up tapping what was left of the hole the next size up and put in a bigger, shorter bolt, leaving the broken tap in the bottom. Far as I could tell the weight difference wasn't too much off from the other bolts, but I'm wondering if the clutch is off balance.

- I just finished a top end rebuild the other day and am in the process of breaking it in. I did not remove or disable anything in the bottom half or crank case. Piston rods didn't have any abnormal play.

- the clicking doesn't seem to be affecting the performance of the sled, but I want to address it before it does, or confirm its nothing to worry about.

Coolant in cylinder?

I got a 2000 Polaris classic 500 that just got a full rebuild done by a friend. I put maybe 20 miles on it so far. I just went to change the plugs out and noticed one piston and plug looks normal for running mix in the tank. The other piston has a milky film on it along with the plug. Coolant leak issue? Base gasket? Any ideas.

Thanks

Time for a rebuild?

The sled is a 1999 skidoo mxz 600. This post is on my friends behalf.

Long story short he's experiencing bogging at low power when getting going. Not much problem once he gets cruising though. The mag side cylinder is misfiring, the plugs been coming out wet. We have tried switching the spark plug wires to opposing cylinders to make sure the problem didn't follow, misfire remained in the mag side. Far as we can tell the crankshaft seals are still good. A compression test revealed 90psi of pressure in both cylinders.

At This point I'm thinking it may be time to rebuild the top end, but were wondering if there's anything else we should look at first. Thanks guys.

Exciter 570LC troubleshooting and potential upgrades

Hello all! I am still fairly new to this forum, but I thought I would start a thread with a couple of questions about a 1987 Yamaha Exciter 570LC that I recently picked up for $150. Forgive me if my questions have already been asked elsewhere on the forum. I did look around, but I didn't find anything that exactly answered my questions completely.

First and foremost, the sled I bought is in really good shape cosmetically(No rips in the original seat, all body parts are cosmetically sound, track and suspension look good, etc.). The odometer says it has 3700 miles. The guy I purchased from said he had completely gone through it at the beginning of the season to tune it up, and that it ran fine half a dozen times. The last time he parked it there was no issue, but when he went out to start it a few days later it wouldn't start. He checked compression and got 115psi and 50psi (50psi was in exhaust side cylinder). He told me he didn't really want to mess with it, and had not tried checking into what the cause of the issue was. I am fairly new to working on snowmobiles but I would like to learn more and try to get this old Exciter running. I rechecked compression when I got the sled home and got 115 and 30 (exhaust side cylinder). My question main is, what should my first step(s) to fixing this issue be and what do I need to look out for?? Also, where is the most cost effective place to find good replacement parts for this engine?

The other question I had was in regard to upgrades and add-ons for this sled. Assuming that it isn't going to take a fortune to fix the engine issue...are there any upgrades that people could recommend for this sled down the road? It looks like everything on it is original, but I was thinking that plastic skis, newer suspension components (not sure about this), and maybe looking into some of the 'upgrades' that Bender Racing put out. It does looks like the carbs were changed on this sled at one point. The ones currently in it look like newer round slide carbs which, from what I have read on here, are not correct for an 87 Exciter.

I'm open to any and all suggestions and would really appreciate any help/advice on this!! Thanks in advance! :nerd:

Grease fittings 02 Polaris 550 Classic

So the grease fittings on the end of the shaft that is part of the joint connecting to the front ski's are my question. Can these be removed from the sled? I tried greasing them but the grease just goes around the fitting and the bearing in the middle seems to be ok. I also tried removing the fitting but there aren't any points on it to use a wrench on it, the edge is completely smooth. I did all the grease points on the sled without any issues but these two are giving me the trouble. Anyone have any of the same problem?

Tygon fuel line.

I put some .25" clear yellow Tygon fuel line on my sled and I am not happy. I paid premium price and thought I was buying a premium product. The tube turned milky within two weeks. Can't see the fuel. The part that went milky has gone very limp (phrasing) compared to the new lines. I am also having a leak at the carb fitting. I understand that the carb fitting may be sized for 6mm not .25" but this is first time I have ever had a problem on any machine. No leaks at the fuel pump side. I tried the next size smaller flat spring hose clamp, it was tough to get on and it did not fix the issue. Put a serious crimp in my snowmobiling. Has else had a similar problem? I will probably end up at Napa and buy some black tube, but I am still hoping to find some clear tube that will work. It is labeled Saint Gobins Tygon. I there a chance that it was counterfeit? Has else had similar problems? Any recommendations on good clear fuel line?

Thanks
John

Jag Spark Loss

I wanted to take the sleds out today since the last few weekends haven't been ideal for riding. The Jag took a number of pulls to start, but finally got going, then suddenly shut down. After checking things over, I pulled the plugs and wasn't getting any spark. Lovely!

I pulled the grounding block off the throttle side footwell area, scuffed things up and reinstalled. No dice. Key switch was hooked up fine...jumped the wires, no dice. I ended up pulling the TSS harness and re-plugging it in. One/two pulls and it lit up. I let it warm up a bit, but it suddenly cut off. Pulled about 3-4 times...nothing. Then I unplugged/re-plugged the TSS. One pull and it fired up. I sat on the machine and let it warm up. Took a few light blips of the throttle, but it stayed running. I did a few laps, got it up to temp and it was running just fine. I parked it, shut it off and took the Puma out (which starts much easier than the Jag). After a bunch of laps on the Puma, I got on the Jag, gave it a pull and it started right up.

So any thoughts on this? I'm leaning towards the TSS. One thing to note: The TSS connector coming from the OEM harness on the Jag has two connectors. The bars have 3 connectors. I replaced the SnoPro style bars that someone put on the sled with OEM style bars. This is the first time I've really had an issue with spark. Should I just jump the TSS and move on with things? Or maybe clean the connectors?

Jag Spark Loss

What now?

So I changed out the engine, that went well.
Fuel pump started to fail, changed that, went well.
My pullcord starter failed, so I pulled that out and found that the reel had broken, so I put all that back together while I wait for replacement as I also have electric start.
Went for a good ride, everything, good, parked it.
2 days later I sarted it up, let it warm to 35c and when I got on the throttle, it lacked a little power,I thought, still a little cold maybe, started to bog worse and worse, couldn't even make it around the house.
Changed the plugs and still the same.
However it idles higher now while idling, runs forever idling.
I typicly idle at between 1500 and 1800.
It now idles at 2300

Indy 488 Trail Idle Fast Idle

i have a 1991 Polaris 488 Trail. Runs great but after it starts it seems stuck at 2800. used the choke to flood it out and then revved it back up and idles fine at 1600, but once it moves, stuck at 2800 again. Confused?:dunno:

Looking for a good used sled to take me and friend ice fishing

Howdy, new member here, just joined.

This year I've decided to do some research on snowmobiles with hopes of finding one that fits my needs later this winter or even at the end of the season. Would like to find something used in about a $3000-$3500 range.

I live in Denver suburbs and frequently head up to the high country to go ice fishing. Would like to find a sled that's not too heavy, has a seat for a passenger, some good storage, has good power and does relatively well in deeper snow as well as on patches of hard ice. I don't plan on racing up the steep mountain face or bang through the snow filled ditches. I want a comfortable, dependable relatively light sled that can get me to my fishing spots and back without drama. I think I'd like the Reverse feature, because I'm pretty new to this. Electric start would be a plus but not a must for me. Probably a 2 stroke to start with. Something that is pretty easy on the fuel and has good low range power.

I'm not loyal to any brand at the moment. I've looked at some ads on local Craigslist and liked the esthetics of this Yamaha Venture.

Also, this touring Polaris looks like a pretty good sled, though it's showing some signs of neglect.

I've seen some snowmobiles on trail today with 2up setup and Wide Track - looks like that would be a useful feature to have for deeper snow on the lake.

Looking for some recommendations on Brands and Models to look for. Thx in advance - James

Looking for a good used sled to take me and friend ice fishing

Hello from Denver, CO

Howdy - a new member here. I'm looking to venture into the snowmobile world this year, maybe at the end of the season. Love outdoors, and there are plenty of trails here in CO to ride and explore. Will use snowmobile primarily for ice fishing and some trail riding on weekend too.

Hoping my wife will want to ride with me, I know my 12yr old daughter will... :)

Anyway, I'm here because I need your help deciding what's the right sled for me and how to find a good one (and know when I found a bad one) as I plan to buy a good used machine.

Hope to chat with you later - have fun this winter season! :)

Hello from Denver, CO

New sled

So after the last two years of having issues with my old 99 RMK I'm starting to wonder if I should cut my losses and try to find something else. Now don't get me wrong, I love that sled. It's just, with all the work I've done and money I've spent it's getting old having to always do something to it. I did a complete engine rebuild (if you see my other posts you'll understand my frustrations). I went from the stock 136 to a 151. Did a lot of modifications to personalize it and make it how I wanted. I guess it's disappointing that it seems like I don't get nearly enough enjoyment out of it for all the time and effort I've put in. I realize that it's an old sled. I get that so I'm not saying it should be perfect by any means. I kinda think now it might have been better to just save up for something new rather than put it into mine, but oh well. So my question is for everybody that has an opinion or input (I'm sure everyone will) and honestly I'm curious what everyone's opinion is. I'm not trying to start a war or get everybody to brand bash, I see enough of that on Facebook. Let's say I'm looking to buy a sled that's anywhere from brand new to around 5 years old. I'm curious what you guys would recommend. I'm a mountain rider so kinda keep that in mind. I'd like to stay with the 151, 154, whatever is available that way, I don't need anything longer than that. Engine wise I'm seeing 600s and 800s so I guess that's kinda what you get. I've been a Polaris fan for a long time. My dad has 2 that have never let us down. My 98 RMK was amazing. Did things I wasn't sure it would. Kept up with brand new PRO-RMKs and Arctic Cats. I'm open to explore the options of the other brands just don't know them. I've ridden a few Arctic Cats but the older one I had was nothing but a money pit. Pretty sure I spent twice what I bought it for to fix it in the 2 years I had it. Kind of worry's me about a new one. Never ridden any Ski Doos. I know lots of people who ride the PRO-RMKs and a lot of people that ride the newer Arctic Cats. Of course they all love what they have and bash other brands. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you were a salesman and I told you I'm looking for something what would you recommend and why? What's so special about the engine, ride, technology, etc? Why should I choose that sled. Sorry for the long post and thank you for your input

Need some help

So anyone else extend their risers on the handlebars and then have that space between the bars and base that the steering neck comes out of? I forgot to even compensate for this space that will be created. To try and keep snow and possible water out of this area I need to come up with something that can fill in this space. If you have any suggestions and pics of what you came up with please let me know. I was thinking maybe some pipe insulation would work since its round and easy to work with may work but the diameter is an issue. I would need something about 4 inches around to take up most of the space. I don't know if there is a new handlebar cover that I can buy that extends down to the base.

Thanks

2003 XC 700 heated shield - How Do You Wire In?

I have a 2003 XC 700. Understand near the left side foot well is the voltage regulator with a four prong plug with 2 spots taken and 2 spots open power sources. Also that 03-and later edges they have a separate ground back to the stator from chassis ground. If you use a chassis ground you'll blow the regulator. So my question is where exactly is it safe to ground? Splice into any brown wire? :dunno:

1998 Sx700 coil problem

1998 Vmax
I had a bad coil(failed ohm test) on magneto side.

Ordered a used eBay coil.

They sent a 1999 coil which has a slightly different appearance and part number.

Tried it.

Only ran shortly. Bogged to death.

Except this time, clutch side cylinder won't fire.

All coils testing good(ohm test)

My though: the difference in the 98vs99 coil was causing the now bad cylinders coil(that tests good) not to have enough juice. ???? What's the difference between these coils?

Ordered another coil. Got the same 1999+ coil. Grrr.

Now I have 2 98 coils and 2 99 coils. About to order my 3 coil in hopes I actually get the right one this time.

But wanted to ask someone who might know more than me if these coils are interchangeable and I'm chasing the wrong bird.

Thanks

92 Polaris Indy 650 RXL Electrics

Well, she ran alright for about couple of hours (after the gaskets were changed), then bogged and died...
I even put gas in this time.....
Turns out engine ground from neg post on the battery had broken off. Wire was so short and corroded I just straight out replaced it, used 6ga wire and aluminum posts. And now it don't go at all, just floods. Sparks is there. Figure I must've ballsed something with the ground, but everything is clean, with good connection.
Anyone else had experience with the EFIs doing this?
I've given the electrical diagram a good eyeballing, seems to be a bit of a mess where someone's bypassed the kill switch on the bars, but all grounds exist where necessary.
Any one with previous experience on these gems, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm thinking it's definitely electrical.

AC 550 rebuild

Hi all,
I am having my 98 550 rebuilt by a buddy of mine who is a motorcycle mechanic. Looks like the parts list consists of pistons, rings, bearings seals, oil pump gear. His "parts pit stop" bill comes to $580. Does that sound right? Seems high to me. Any input on parts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

1986 Enticer 340T - will not pass 4500rpms

I recently picked up a 1986 long track Enticer with the intention of using it for back lake fishing.

The machine starts and idles well. Track is in great shape and replaced recently. Fuel system has new lines, new pump. Belt is new this season. The problem arises when I try to take it past about half throttle. I can get it to about 4500-4600rpms and thats it. It doesn't die, but it wont go any faster. It feels like it wants to, but can't for some reason. If I let off the throttle it returns to idle. Never a problem to start it cold or warm.

I've tried searching around for similar situations and the examples I've found involve much newer sleds with complicated setups. These old 340s are simple beasts and its killing me that I can't figure it out. If someone has run into this before with the 340s please point me in the right direction - I just want to fish!

The seller says that the suspension was gone through, new side rails, new bogie wheel bearings and carbs were gone through. Has electric start, reverse and backrest. Asking $1200. Thanks in advance!

89 indy sport issues

Hey folks here's the problem I have with my buddies old indy. It's a 340 twin carb fan when we get it into the garage we can get it running pretty good will rev up and has power now problem. When we take it out sometimes it runs amazing other times it acts up and seems to loose all power and won't go. If we mess with it sometimes it will run good again. What I have done is cleaned his carbs as well made sure the enrichment plungers aren't getting stuck cleaned out the clutches as well. The chain is properly tensioned. I'm just at a loss for what is happening. Any thoughts folks.

1998 ZL500 power loss-missing

I have had it for about 3 years with absolutely no problems up until about a week ago. I rode it around close to the house off and on for a week or so, still no problems. Then I took a longer ride, was probably about 20 miles into it when while going up a small hill, it suddenly began to sputter, backfired and died. I could not find anything obvious wrong, tried to run it a few times with the same symptoms. I began walking, changed my mind, fired it up and was able to limp about 7 miles to a snow park where I got a ride home.

So first I changed the fuel filter and put in some fuel system dryer, I had went through some deep powder a few miles before the problem and thought I might have sucked some snow into the carbs..the 'Cat has those infamous loose sealing airbox side carb boots. Still no change.

So I decided to pull and drain the tank, and pull and clean the carbs. Didn't find any issues with the tank (other than there was only about a gallon of fuel in it) I thought, "There's the problem, it was low on fuel so it made sense that the problem first arose while going up a hill), plus my fuel gauge was broken. The carbs were not bad, no plugged jets, just a bit of gunk in the bottom, and bought a new fuel gauge.

So, I figured it should run good now right? No, I put 3 gallons of fresh fuel, fired it up (starts easily) and the problem is still there. It idles fine and when I open it up it takes off fine, but when I back off from full throttle to mid, it sputters and wants to die, seems to get worse the longer it runs.

My thoughts are that it's either starving for fuel or it has an electrical problem.

94 ZR580 EFI warm start problems

Greetings from the foothills of the Wind River range and a noobie.

I recently acquired a 94 ZR580 EFI from my father-in-law. He has had this issue with it for a few years so he sent it home with me to get a little use out of it. Sled starts great even in very cold temps and runs great too......until you shut it off. Then you have to wait until it cools down (like WAY down) before it will start again. It's the craziest thing and very frustrating as we can't go anywhere with it except around the pasture.
Exactly what happens is this:

- Starts on 1st or second pull every time
- sometimes sits and idles no problems and sometimes need a little throttle feathering to keep it going
- runs GREAT
- You shut it off or let it die after running for awhile
- go to pull start it it and it sputters and tries to start to give you false hope
- you pull and pull and pull until you're worn out and it will not start
- after several hours over night you repeat the above steps starting with firing right up after one or two pulls

I'm thinking some sort of ECM issue? Do these even have ECM's?
I have quite a bit of experience with vehicles both gas and diesel but zero experience with snow mobiles or even 2 cycle stuff. My father-in-law is a sled head and a hill climb pioneer from Logan, UT but is not a mechanic and has had very little time for the last few winters to do anything about it.

Where could I start?

TIA

Oil Tank Cleaning

I've never figured out how to get the semi permanent mix of brake dust and two stroke oil of the tanks on the Cats until recently. I was filling the oil tank on the Jag and a little spilled. I didn't have a towel to clean it up, so I kept filling and grabbed a towel when done. As I was wiping up the spill, that impossible to remove gunk came right off. This stuff has resisted degreasers of all types. And with just a little oil and elbow grease, it came right off.

Today, it was above freezing and raining on and off. So off to the shed I went to clean things up. First two pics are before and after the on the Jag. Last pic is after I'm the Puma. It really cleaned up the look under the hoods.

93 Jag 440 clutch issues

So I had to take my primary clutch off to replace crank seals. In doing so I ruined the old clutch which it looks like it didn't have much life left in it. I got a new clutch off a 97 jag 440 and it fits fine but I noticed the clutch bolt I have from my original clutch seems to fit tight in a special Machined washer. Here's a picture of the washer and bolt and my new clutch. Can I use it as is or do I need to get a clutch bolt from the donor sled ?

White Out Technologies XF 800 pipe insert

I was just browsing to see what was available for XF parts the other day, looking for a rear rack setup. I found this pipe insert that goes inside the top of the muffler from this company, White Out Technologies.

Did a google search and a forum search for this insert and I haven't been able to find any reviews or anyone talking about it. Has anyone on here bought one or know of someone? The company claims it adds 3-4 hp according to their "dyno graph" which looks fairly cheesy to me. I'm a skeptical guy, I'm just not sure how this insert does what they say it does. It appears to be either blocking off a few of the internal baffles of the muffler which could mean higher flow and slightly louder. Or it may be reducing the flow slightly and increasing pipe temperature for a better burn?

I'm not really sure how it works, any thoughts or concerns running one of these? It's only $30 so I'm planning on picking one up. Where I ride you'll be ticketed for aftermarket exhausts that raise the level of noise above factory, I've looked at a bikemen mountain can which should do the job and save weight but I'm thinking I'll give this a shot.

Thanks

Electric start problem

Hello guys. New to this Forum. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a 2005 Polaris switchback 600. been trying to get the electric start working. Has a brand new battery with 12.6 volts according to my voltmeter. just installed brand new starter thinking it was that. turn the key and nothing. not even a click from the solenoid. I have same voltage to the solenoid but nothing from solenoid to the starter ( mind you I didn't turn key at same time to check but solenoid makes no noise). was going to replace the solenoid but concerned that it wont work. Could it be the ignition switch? any way to test the solenoid? any help would be great. thanks

Got a 550 that runs fine until cranks to top speed while wide open for about 100 feet. Then cuts out like a limiter. No backfire, just starts to stutter while at full bar throttle.

Any suggestions would be great. Runs great until pegged to handlebar. Thanks

Won't Start!!

Hello all!! New to the FORUM and looking forward to meeting other enthusiasts. I have owned and enjoyed my 93 Indy for 4 years now and have had the engine rebuilt along with the clutch and had the carbs cleaned 2 years ago. Last year we had no snow so did not ride then. So here is my problem: I Was out riding about a month ago this year when we had snow and was coming back home when I stopped to cross a road. After about 6 seconds at idle the engine just quit! Like someone hit the kill switch or turned the key to "off"! Towed it home and the next day noticed a very strong gas odor. Did not think too much at first but after checking the spark and pulling the starter about 12 times with no effect, then the next day I noticed (and smelled!!!) that gas had leaked onto the garage floor. I had a piece of cardboard underneath so I know it was from the sled for sure now. So I have spark but the gas only leaks when trying to start it so it must be pulling from the tank but not getting to the cylinders. I would appreciate any thoughts on the possible problem as I am new to these machines but have wanted one for a very long time! Thanks!!

2004 Frontier Starting problem

I have a starting problem with my Polaris 2004 frontier sled. I will go to my garage and start it up and it runs perfect. Another time it will not start, in fact acts as if there is no power anywhere. I wait for 10 minutes and try it again and it may go or may not. In other words it is hit and miss as to whether or not it will start. Changed the solenoid and kill switch but no change. It does act like the kill switch is activated when it doesn't start but replacing hasn't worked. If there is anyone out there that can help with this I would appreciate it. I have seen a post that is similar to this but it was posted in 2009 so probably won't hear back from the member.

2009 to 2007 clutch

Just curious if anyone knows if the taper of a 2009 skidoo summit 800 clutch will match up to a 2007. My primary clutch broke a couple years back and I rebuilt it with what I had on hand and now when I let off the throttle it slows down but keeps creeping along and doesn't fully disengage. Thought about putting the 2009 clutch on if it will mount up. Any Ideas for trouble shooting or taper match ups?

600 shift throttle lag

hey guys, you may have seen my other posts with more details on my sled but it's a 2010 IQ shift 600 ( fuel injected). When I am coasting or slowing down and rev the throttle it has about a 1-2 second lag/ bog if I keep on the throttle it clears up. I have cleaned the power valves and replaced all the broken parts. I have tried the stock can and aftermarket. I run premium gas and Polaris VES gold oil and have tried the ethanol wires in both positions, and nothing has helped. Scuffed cylinder or busted reed maybe? there are no other signs that something is wrong. I did have one spell where it would bog out at full throttle once in a while but after thawing it out, putting isopropyl in the gas, and unplugging the ethanol wires (to richen the mixture) it ran fine after. I don't know what to do next. if possible I would like to keep the engine together but I don't want to cause further damage.

Any ideas????????:dunno:

Final assemble and test- 2000 800RMK

Howdy,
Finally got the sled running, and just checking out a few things.

I got the coolant up to temperature a few times, checked head bolt torque, and have driven down the street and back.
I had put the oil pump on full open during the test. Smokes a bunch. I pulled the line off the bearing and I see oil in the line, but not a ton comes out when running....

So the last two questions I have:

1.Should I just replace the oil pump or is there a rebuild kit for it. I tried the drill on it, and it didn't seem to pump. I opened the bleed screw and oil came out, no air bubbles. What would be the best for a sled with a new motor and oil pump with 4000 miles on it?

2.I have one extra wire that I have no idea where it goes and my manual is not with me. I have three 2-wire plugs, I know I have the right wire to the coil since it runs, and I know one goes to the thermostat over temp switch on head, but not sure where the other goes? The one harness has the connector to the carbs, and I believe that one is red and black, and the other is brown and black wire. Any advice is appreciated.

Lots of snow here, and I finally got the four place trailer and sleds unburied last weekend, now I am working on the backup sled.....

Thanks in advance
Bob

first sleds

Hi guys, I was just wondering what everyone grew up or started riding and what they progressed to, I myself started on an arctic cat KittyCat, I don't remember my age. Later on, at about 10 or 11, I started riding my dad's 1998 indy 500. after blowing the motor a few years later, I rode his 2001 600 indy touring for a season. I finally bought a crashed 1993 indy 440 l/c and put the motor in the 500 Indy. That was when I was about 12 or 13. after a season of riding that I got fed up with the old chassis and carburated motor and purchased a 2010 IQ shift 600 with an extended track to 144" I bought it at 14 years old, which I guess is my age now;)

PS; I know, I started early.

Seat-tank removal '98 ZL-500

Ok I have read that some Arctic Cat sleds require only the removal of two bolts located under the rear of the seat, disconnecting the wires to the tail light, lift up and back and it all comes off in one piece? I just want to make sure mine is the same procedure as I could not find info specific to my sled. It has the fuel gauge that was connected to the fuel cap, it broke and fell apart into the tank and I can't get it out. Plus the fuel is questionable so I want to drain and clean the tank.

1997 Vmax SX 700 Track alignment

I cannot seem to get my track to align properly? It drifts too far to one side. I've done this plenty of times so I know all about the adjustments but the only way I can get it to align is if one side is really loose and the other is tight? I've taken the track out (twice) and reviewed ever thing and it looks to be in order? Of course, I'm missing something....but what? Has anyone else had this issue? If, so what did you find was the problem? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello from Utah

Snowed in Utah.

I've been looking at buying a sled, but don't know much about them. I've been on one just long enough to know the sleds have a mind of their own.

I'll need to be able to ride powder. Hopefully have some fun. I'm not very interested in hill climbing just to see how far up or fast I can get up a hill.

Is there a section for what used sled I should buy? Four grand is about my budget.

Hello from Utah

92 Polaris Indy 650 RXL

So, having bought this sled for not a lot of money and knowing it needed new head gaskets, I finally got chance to get it done. I've spent quite a while on various forums as a guest reading about the various issues with them and how to troubleshoot. First of all, previous owner had installed the gaskets wrong (don't know how that is even possible) hence the leak. Got all the heads and jug facings cleaned up nicely, new gaskets on the water manifold. Getting the head bolts torqued down, and one of the smaller ones sheared. No worries, 7 others holding it in place, and no leaks from it. Put the battery on (I always take it off when I'm done using the sled as the ignition switch is wonky) cranked her and away she went. 20 minutes later, no leaks, bit of smoke from spilled coolant on the exhaust, all good. So I thought....
Got on it, gave it some gas, bogged and died on the spot. Had another sled to fix so I left it for 20 minutes or so. When i came back to it, started 2nd pull, ran 15 seconds and died. I checked spark - all good. Compression - all good. Kill switch - bypassed (previous owner). Everything, for about an hour, I checked and double checked.
Turns out, I'd forgot to put bloody gas in it...... Runs like a dream now.

Thanks for having a solid tech section though, I've never worked on sleds before now.

2007 summit x REV coolant leak??

I'm looking for some advice from anybody who knows the revs better than I do. I've noticed coolant leaking on the tunnel of the sled, I've cleaned everything, and tried to find where it's coming from, it doesn't seem to be leaking from the heat exchanger under the tunnel, but almost looks like it's coming from under the tail light assembly and leaking on top of the tunnel. I'm wondering if there's a hose or a line that runs across at the back of the tunnel, under that tail light assembly that may have a hole in it. Any help would be appreciated

Weak spark

Was hoping you guys could help me out. My girl rides a Classic 340 (03). The carbs are clean, it has good compression on both sides. Problems is it seems to run on one cylinder at lower rims but when revved it seems to straighten out and run strong. After running it hard on a stand I pulled the plugs and the pto side is definitely MUCH HOTTER. The mag side is cooler and darker. With plugs out and on the block the pto side is very bright and blue, the mag side is weak and hard to see. I already tried trimming the wire and put on a new cap.....no difference. So I was wondering if anyone knows off-hand if the end coming off the coil can be removed and trimmed back or if the end is a permanent part of the coil assembly. Also, any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanx in advance.

Understanding diffrent primary spring

I'm trying to get better at tuning my sled and want to get a better understanding of the different springs and what all the info means. Link to chart.

Primary Springs

I'm looking at the second chart, the long springs. I have a nytro MTX and want to get the engagement down to 2900RPM. Currently I have the stock spring in there, Green-White-Green. It has a pre-load of 45. My understanding is that preload affects engagement. My Question on this is how much does each 5kgs affect rpm?

Then their is the spring rate and total force that to my understanding affects the shift RPM. So say to get my engagement to 2900rpm I need a preload of 35(just a guess I have to idea) and want to keep my shift rpm close to the same would I go with pink-silver-pink so that the wire is the same at 6.0 but the spring rate is higher then the g-w-g at 3.0 but a lower total force at 134?

Or would I be better off using the green-silver-green with a smaller wire at 5.8 but the same spring rate at 2.75 and lower total force at 126?

Any info on this subject would be great.

Nytro roll over tether not working

Just got a nytro mtx with the Yamaha factory roll over tether and when I pull the tether plug out while the sled is running nothing happens. I looked at the wiring and it appears to be all correct. Would it be the switch itself that is not working? Is the kill switch normally open or closed? If it is just the switch itself would I be able to just get a new tether plug and change it out? I believe that the switch itself would have to work for the roll over valve to engage but correct me if I am wrong. Here is a link to the valve that I have.

2012 RMK engine problems

I've been having some serious problems with my 2012 RMK this year. I blew it up around christmas and rebuilt the motor with wiseco pistons and purchased a new block for it as well. This past weekend the throttle side cylinder went again (didn't have a half a tank of fuel through it). The throttle side cylinder was significantly more damaged the first time and then went this past weekend. I feel there has to be some lubrication issues in the one cylinder for some reason. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Summit 700 2002 engine into a 2001 machine?

My son put a rod through the case on his 01 Summit 700. I found a recently overhauled 02 Summit 700 engine and thought this would be an easy swap. A couple of differences and done.

The trigger coil ignition system or magneto has 2 extra wires due to a second trigger and a different plug going to the MPEM. I verified this off of both wiring diagrams. It has 4 wires and a second trigger on the 02 engine. I have 2 choices as I see it. Change out the magneto with the original connector plugs or change out the connector 4 plug to the 2 plug and use the same 2 wires as the 01 uses and fold back the wires for the second trigger coil and leave it.

1. Has anyone done this re-wire with success?

2. Or should I just change out the magneto and harness?

As always, thanks in advance for,
Lyle

99 mountain max 700 running poor

Hello new to the site. I've recently picked up the sled knowing of this problem. The sled starts and runs great anything above half throttle it sounds like it's loading up or dropping a cylinder or cylinders. Cleaned carbs checked over clutching went through fuel pump and cleaned. Also while cruising the sled acts as if it's dropping cylinders it will not rev past 7k rpm and is lacking power. Plugs look good 120 psi acrossed the board.

Carb Tuning on a 2000 Phazer

I am doing the fine tuning on a set of cleaned and rebuilt carbs on a 2000 Phazer. It's running pretty good. I have a couple of related questions.

1) I am trying to sync the carbs using a set a dial type vacuum gauges for motorcycles. I removed the YEIS chamber and blocked the open ports with a stopper drilled to accept a brass tube. Routed a vacuum line from the brass tube to the vacuum gauges. It is airtight. The problem is that manual calls for a manifold vacuum of 200 mmHg and a difference of 10 mmHg. My question/problem is that at idle it only draws about 90 or 100 mmHg. The needles jump around a lot but settle down when the restrictor valve at the gauge is adjusted almost shut. I can sync them so they draw the same vacuum and it does idle a lot smoother. My question is: Why the low vacuum. The sled runs as well as ever so I am pretty sure there is nothing grossly wrong. Is there something wrong with my test setup?

2) The choke/starter/enrichener cable setting has me confused. The manual says there should be one mm of cable freeplay. The plunger assembly is preloaded with a spring so there really is no freeplay. I set it up so there is 1mm of "freeplay" when the enrichener lever on the dash is full on. This keeps the plunger from "bottoming out" when choke lever is fully on. The plunger is also fully seated when the lever is off. This makes sense and seems to work ok. Is there a better procedure? Am I missing something? The manual is not very clear.

3) How the heck do you replace the in-tank fuel filter. I fished it up to the filler opening but could only get it 1/2 way out. The line was too short by about 2 or 3 inches. Is there a trick or some other way of getting to it? It's not covered in the manual.

Any help is appreciated.
John

1989 polaris indy 500 issue

Hey guys I've been having an issue with this sled recently first it was bogging sometimes and would go and other times it ran great for a long time I cleaned the carbs after that it ran and sounded even better but I noticed the belt had alot of slack and it really sat down into the sheves on the secondary I cleaned the secondary clutch outer service when I first purchased it looked good. The belt was smoking the other day and I noticed the primary clutch had chunks taken out of the sheves that I will be fixing as soon as I can find a primary for an 89 500 indy are there other kinds that may fit it? Also I've been reading up alot on these forums and I can't find a good guide or walk through for doing the secondary clutch I'm more than confident to do it but have never done one on the skidoo my problem is my belt is too loose and needs to be tightened it's a old button style secondary any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Also this sled has been very well taken care of not even a rip in the seat looks like new compression is good

Vk540 clutch

Need some help/advice/ information . I've got a 1988 vk540 last winter cooked the clutch in it and had it rebuilt except for the sheaves which did show a little wear . Problem is now it keeps blowing belts . Secondary wasn't touched and a new belt does seem to sit more inside it as opposed to flush or being the 2mm inset like I've found on some specs for it any ideas what would be causing the problem as I'm sure the alignment should be good as nothing was loosened or changed . Could it just be the wear on the sheaves ? Secondary? Alignment? Also what other years of yamaha or other sleds or vk540 would have ran same clutch that I may be able to track down ?

Exhaust gaskets keep blowing.

I did a fresh engine rebuild on my 1998 RMK 500 about 1 year ago, new pistons, sleeves, carb rebuilds, gas lines (no oil injector) etc. I rode it in Idaho for about 50miles, last year and it's been sitting turned on every week and ran for 10mins. We got snow where I live this year which never happens. I rode it for 40mins blew a exhaust gasket, replaced rode for 2hrs, blew a gasket again, rode for 4hrs blew a gasket again. I've blown 10 exhaust gaskets in 1 day about evenly split between both exhaust gaskets. The speed has varied widely between them blowing. I've cleaned and filed down the exhaust and outlet on the header. I've double check the bolts are going in nice and snug. I can't find a reason why there blowing ( I am riding at a low alltuide almost 400-500 lower than I normally do.) That's the only thing differnt I can find that I normally do.
Piston Readings: 140-150 per Piston.
Cold start: 2-3 Pulls (1/8 throttle choke)
Warm start: 1Pull (1/8 throttle)

coolant bottle cap leak skidoo 2007 800 GTX

I have seen a number of entries regarding the rad cap on the coolant bottle with regard to the cap not fitting, leaking etc. Got the same problem on this sled I recently purchased. Coolant leaks from the cap and cap very difficult to put in place. Purchased a new cap ( 509000187 Pressure Cap.) and same problem occurs. Comments I have read include the coolant bottle warping with engine heat. Purchased a metal ring insert to true the tank opening but that hasnt done the trick.
anyone have an idea of a different cap other than the oem or kimpex cap. I was even thinking of adapting a different filler neck.

Clutch shims

After this 1996 zrt 600 being down for a couple years due to not being able to remove clutch from shaft after trying all the tricks. Ended up cutting the shaft and buying a used shaft and secondary clutch. My concern is the shims between the bearing and the clutch. I was able to recover the 4 shims from old setup. And from parts diagrams it shows a .075 and a .030. Question is why is there 4? Any help would be great

coil over adjustment

So I am replacing the shocks on my sled. I recently replaced the fronts and will be doing the centers soon. I am just wondering how much of an adjustment should I typically want on the front ski's for optimal ride and handling? I am new to these types of things and just want to try and make sure I do it right the first time. I have a 2002 Polaris 550 classic with the edge chassis. I don't have a repair manual yet so that is also something I will need to invest in.

Formula 500 died on trail at full throttle

Ran my 98 Ski Doo Formula 500 about 50 miles today. Had a straight away and punched the throttle for a few seconds (20-30) and then it just died. Was at about 80 MPH at the time. I tried pulling it over, replacing spark plugs, priming it, and loosening the gas cap, but it would not fire. Coolant is full and it was not very hot when it died. Towed it to the nearest road and pulled it over again, still would not fire. Got a lift to a local establishment and had a couple drinks, then got a trailer and loaded it up a couple hours later (still would not fire). Hauled it home and put it in the garage (1 pull and it fired up). Drove it around the yard and it ran like nothing ever happened. What gives and can I trust it on another ride?

No oil drains out the transmissionbox

I do have a widetrak LX from 1998.
I just screwed out the drainplug from the transmission box.
When it was halfway out there was something thin dripping out. (I guess some water, it was not much)
Now the drainplug is out there is not a drip oil comming out:eek:

The dipstick was at maximum when I started and did not changed.

Anybody experience with this?

Oil pump wisdom

I recently bought a 1999 Vmax 600 triple for cheap since it had been sitting a few years and my buddy just wanted the trailer.I went through the badly gummed up carbs and found fuel in the crankase. My real question is...Does this oil pump mix the oil in the fuel pump then send it mixed to the carbs? Hard to see but I don't see any other oil lines??

2011 Grand Touring Sport

Hi All;
I purchased a new 2011 and since then have only put on a whopping 226 miles. 2 years ago I went to use the sled but discovered a leaking fuel pump seal where it is installed in the tank; took it to the dealer and had replaced for 300.00 Can. Today found it was leaking again!!! Anyone know of recalls or bulletins from Ski Doo reference this problem.

Thanks

2012 Artic Cat F-1100 Turbo bogging

Bought a new 2012 Artic Cat F-1100 LXR in 2015. Broke it in gently, have about 400 miles on it. Machine is stock. While on my last ride last season it fell flat on its face under acceleration from standing stop. It bogged down and sounded like burp, burp, and burp and would not accelerate. The machine has new plugs, replaced fuel filter, drained and cleaned fuel tank as precaution, new fuel, all new smart valves and harness. Problem still occurs. I have a good friend working on it with alot of Cat experience and another individual who is reviewing the situation and looking towards possible electrical. I am looking for any comments or if anyone has had this problem before and knows what is occurring. Thank you.

98 Pantera EFI strikes again!

I am continuing to have battery charging issues with this sled. I thought I had a bad regulator so I bought a new one. No difference. Then I was verifying the voltage at the motor and then thought the harness and found two of the phases from the stator (3 phase stator) to have an intermittent short between them at the voltage regulator connector. I cut out the offending connector at the regulator and replaced it. I even made sure to orient the wire back to their original position. Then to be sure all was good, I replaced the battery. With the key off, the battery voltage reads 12.48 volts. With the engine at an idle it goes up to 12.78. When I accelerate, the voltage begins to rise to around 12.9 but at 2500 Tom's it falls back to 12.50. I could use some input at this point. Blaine1, are you out there??

gas coming out overflow tubes

hey so have a 91 polaris indy trail, my boyfriend recently cleaned the carbs and it was running great went on around a 2 mile ride last night and we got off the sleds but left them running and mine started to leak out the tubes in the handle bar and shut off. we couldn't get it to start up again so when we got home he pulled it to see what side was leaking and looked through the carb to make sure nothing was stuck and all looked good. does anyone have any ideas what else it could be or what to do? thanks.

Y pipe keeps breaking

Hey all, I have a 97 ZR 580 efi and the y pipe keeps cracking only after a few rides. This is the third y pipe that has broken in only a few hours of moderate riding.

The torque stopper behind the secondary clutch is broken. Would this be the cause? I know of people who have rode with broken stoppers for years and never had any issues.

Only other thing i can think of is the bolts that mount the y pipe to the heads shake loose occasionally and i need to snug them up. I was thinking of putting some thread lock on to keep them snug. Would those bolts loosening up cause excessive vibration and cause the y pipe to crack when it gets hot?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Oil pump or drive failure

HI guys, I am new to the site, which is nice by the way! I have just recently bought a used 1991 Polaris Indy 440 sport, the PO said when he bought it he rode it for 6mi then it blew up, he took it to a motorsport shop and they said the oil injection had failed and the engine needed rebuilt so they rebuilt it $750 and told him it would be another $300 to fix the oil injection, he told them not to fix it and that he would just premix the fuel,,,,, Now I own it and I am wondering if it OK doing it this way??? I have heard like the exiter 440 would not get oil to the crank bea rings this way, am I ok with my Polaris pretty mixing for now anyways? ??? I may fix the oil injection later

Sled is jerky

So my 04 Polaris 600 edge touring started riding really jerky the other day. It doesn't want to pick up speed and if I try to go faster the engine bogs a little. I can also smell a bit of belt burning. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking the problem have something to do with something in the chaincase? It's like there's too much resistance from the track/chaincase/jackshaft. Need help where to look first. Thanks

Sled floods itself

Am working on a 1998 RMK 500 snowmobile (Same as the one i own). I just did a engine rebuild+top end, fuel lines (tank and all others), new carb floats, gas shut off switch. The sled runs great and works like a beast however after 1-2 hrs of riding when you shut if off for 5-10mins and try to restart it the seld is 100% flooded i checked all carb settings, shut off switch and i cant find a single issue why the sled is flooding itself after that little amount of time, any thoughts? Thanks guys!

Hi from No snow lower MI

Hello Friends,

My name is Nick. I am new here but not new to the snowmobile world. I have been riding since I was small enough to reach the handlebars of my dad's old 1970 Ski Doo Olympique. I still have that old sled. . . and now 22 others. Typically I have about 5 running per year. Each one a different make and model. Some SKi Doo, Polaris, and The bulk of my collection is OMC. (Johnson and Evinrude) Hence the name "RevelerNick" after the Johnson Reveler.

Currently as jobs go I am a full time student, at least until May when I will finally graduate with a Bachelors of Music degree with a concentration in Education. It is my hope to one day become a music teacher somewhere up north, Close to the snowmobile trails.

As far as an actual job I work at a boat shop that has a large stock of N.O.S. snowmobile parts available for the Johnson/OMC/Evinrude machines. (shameless plug)

I look forward to talking with everyone.

Sled not getting fuel

Hi,

I have a 2006 370 arctic cat panther that i got last year that has not been running for 7 years. There's less than a 1000 kms on it. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned it, taken the chain case apart cleaned everything and put it back together, greased everything, drained all fuel and replaced the fuel line inside the tank as well as the strainer, new fuel filter, new vent for the tank, added 1/2 tank of gas and then I tried to start the sled. It wouldn't start. There is no fuel getting to the fuel pump. I disconnected the fuel line and sucked the fuel through and re attached it to the pump. Still won't start. I then replaced the fuel pump and same thing. Still won't start. No fuel getting to the pump. I'm totally stumped as what it could be. What if I filled the tank with gas, would that make a difference as now it is only half full. Also, I did not hook the battery up to the sled as I don't really need it, however, would that have something to do with the issue.

Thanks,

Ryan

1994 Phazer, new to sled, want to cover my bases.

Hey guys,

I just recently picked up a 1994 Phazer. I've only had about an hour with it so this is all I know. I was able to put some mix gas into the holes above intake (a plastic double nozzle little tube is there, i pulled that and poured the fuel in). The sled fired right up on the 2nd pull after adding fuel. It idled for about 20 seconds until it ran out of that fuel i poured in. I'm rather certain the fuel in the unit is 2 years old. I've done some digging and it sounds like I need to remove the seat and siphon out all that old gas as well as check fuel filter in the tank. I took the bolts out of the oil resevoir and pulled that aside so i can see what the fuel lines were looking like. THe one going into the pump is rock hard, and so are the ones going to the carbs. I'm going to plan to replace all of these fuel lines and probably the lines running from the oil pump as well. I've not worked on a dual carb system before, typically I clean single carbs. I'm betting these carbs are dirty and will want to confirm that my fuel pump is pushing fuel as well.

does this motor have a bottom end crank case that holds it's own oil? If so, i'd like to change that out as it's probably old oil in there. IF not, that will save me a step. Are there any suggestions as to how to get the carbs off, do I need pull the tanka nd the entire plastics, because the way it looks right now I'm going to struggle getting to anything with the brake rotor and oil tank and other things in my way. If i pull the seat and the tank will that give me room or what's the best way to get to my carbs. I want to try to get these cleaned up without causing any issues in the process.

Thank you in advance for the advice. My first plan tonight is to get the seat off and get all of the old fuel siphoned out of the tank. I will inspect the fuel filter. Then I'm going to pickup some 1/2" fuel line in bulk so that I can begin replacing all of these. Does anybody know what sizes these lines tend to be, i'm pretty sure the one from tank to pump is 1/2", maybe some of the othersare 1/4 or 3/8 line? Basically i want to replace any of these old rock hard lines with something new so i can eliminate any issues now or int he future.

HI from NB

Morning all,

I'm new to the world of snowmobiles, never really ridden one until about a year ago (being from the UK we don't have much use for them). Now I own a couple older Polaris machines. I've been visiting this site to read the tech sections quite a bit, figured it'd be a good exercise to sign up, seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people herein.
I'm from UK originally, and have made my home in NB for the last 5 years. Hoping to meet up with some local people to ride some trails eventually, but also looking for some tech advice and someone with a good knowledge of older polaris machines.

Best regards

DT

Front Shocks

So I am going to change out my front shocks on my 2002 Polaris 550 Classic. I am not sure how long the shocks on it have been on the sled but assume that with over 6000 miles on the clock they may be original. Anyone have any suggestions on good shocks that won't break the bank? I have heard that rebuildable is the way to go. Are these gas shocks and is that what is recommended for a better performing ride and handling? Any help is appreciated.

Snowmobile Mechanics

Hey,
I'm new to these forums and not quite sure how they work. But as a senior in high school I'm starting to look for a career. I've read online that mechanics have an average salary of about 31,000/ year. But I have also heard that some can make good money out of it. I want to go to school for it but I want to know if it would pay off. I'm from the U.P close to Wisconsin. I want to get under a Doo dealer but I'm also interested in starting a business. If anyone knows information on the going-rate and demand for this career I would love to hear your input.
Thanks!

Boggy and backfires 1998 formula deluxe 583 NEED HELP

Hey all, I'm having some problems with how my sled is running lately. When she is cold it starts up perfect and I can go for a ride for about 10-20 mins but then the sled starts to bog down and start backfiring A LOT. When it's like that I can barely get it over 40kmph and at higher revs it just won't go. I've changed the plugs thinking it's just a fouled plug but it did nothing. Anyway I hope someone can help find a way to fix this problem so I can go riding again!

Snowmobile rental in AZ???

Hi,

I lived in PA until the summer of my 7th grade year and was very enthralled with snowmobiles but never got to drive one, though I did get to ride on the back a couple of times. Then we moved to NC and then GA. Now I'm 57 years old still in GA and still have never gotten to drive a snowmobile, or even ride on one since leaving PA. My sister lives in Phoenix AZ and I go visit her from time to time. On the last visit she said there's good snow skiing not unreasonably far from Phoenix which I sort of doubted since Phoenix is well known for being in the hot desert but in case it actually is true I did a quick search for snowmobile rentals in AZ. Can any of you familiar with the area who know there were several results recommend any particular rental places or particular areas that are better than other possible choices? I see places to the north like Flagstaff and Mormon Lake, and places to the east like Alpine. Why is there snow in those places but nothing in Phoenix just 200 or less miles away? How much snow...which area is better...? So far I just don't know what to think about this. And if there is snow, for how long? To try for the snowmobile experience the best I could do would be some time in February. Are some of those places likely to still have snow then, if they had a decent winter at all this year?

Thank you for any help or suggestions!
David

2007 Arctic Cat 10000 Crossover

I am looking at this sled, but it has over 5200 miles on it. Anything I need to worry about, or does anyone know what I should offer for it? It is a strictly standard issue sled. Thanks

95 Phazer II starter rope

Has anyone replaced the metal loop the starter rope goes through with a pulley? Would make it much easier to pull but is it worth the trouble? Thanks

Broken suspension bolt, how to remove?

So that's what I get for letting my brother in law drive my sled... Kidding, wasn't his fault. Anyway, long story short the front right bolt that holds the suspension to the tunnel sheared off mid ride. So now I've got a few problems to figure out.

1: is it possible to get the broken bolt out without having to remove the entire suspension, or is everything far simpler by just pulling it out.

2: how do I stop the bar that the bolts thread through from rotating as I try and turn the bolt. I remember this being a problem on a different sled with a sheared bolt. We had to take the suspension out anyway so drastic measures weren't a problem, but we ended up having to cut of the bolt head on the other side and pry the tunnel open to get the front of the suspension out.

3: This is the big one, when the bolt broke, something under the sled immediately began cluncking around every quarter to half turn of the track. Am I to assume that this is caused by the suspension being loose on the front and catching the track, and that it will correct itself when the new bolt goes in? Or, is there something else I should be worried about?

Thanks for the input guys and gals.

Arctic Cat Reverse Case Cover

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to put the case cover on my 2006 370 panther and i'm not sure how to place the forks. If i place the forks over top of the reverse gear in what looks like the grove it doesn't seem to want to move. Very minimal travel. If I just place the forks down it still doesn't seem to work. Just not sure which way it's suppose to go on. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

1987 Exciter + parts sled for sale near me...Good Deal???

Hello all,

There is a guy trying to sell a 1987 Yamaha Exciter not far from me. The pictures of this sled make it look great cosmetically. Not a tear in the seat or a scuff on the hood to be found. He also is throwing in the skeleton of a parts sled (No motor, exhaust, seat, or skis). He is asking $300 for both and might even deliver to me... the caveat? The Exciter has compression of 127 on the clutch side cylinder and 50 in the other cylinder.

One of my friends back in the day had one of these and it was a blast to ride. I don't know what the dry weight is, but I remember it being pretty lightweight too. My question for you guys is whether this is worth trying to fix up or not...or worth the $300. I am fairly new to working on snowmobiles in general (and I have primarily only worked on Polaris Indy's) and I'm not really sure what I might be getting myself into with this older Yamaha. Thoughts/Advice??? :dunno:

2000 Phazer Carbs.

The Phazer has Mikuni carbs. These are the kind with "butter fly" throttle and the round float bowl. It is stamped 8DJ1 001 but I think that is first few digits of the Yamaha part number. Does any know the Mikuni carb type or series? The local Yamaha dealers are worthless and expensive. If I could find a generic rebuild kit of that would be best. Its faster and cheaper to order the parts over the Interweb.

Thanks
John
