Summit is back together and running. Update with pics.

So I had to tear out the exhaust and a bunch of body panels to troubleshoot an electrical issue on my Summit 1000. Ended up being voltage regulator which I replaced, but while I had it tore down I did a lot of cosmetic work to the sled.

First pic is of the sled tore down, I power washed it, lots of grime/oil.

Took a wire "cup" on a drill to the exhaust to remove all of the rust and painted it.

I removed the skis and put them on their correct sides (were reversed)

I replaced a couple plastics and got it all put back together.

Today, spent sbout 2 hours with Mothers brand Aluminum polish polishing the entire tunnel and the results are fantastic. The finishing touch.

1997 Polaris sport 440 refurbish

I have a 1997 Indy sport 440 that I just picked up last fall. Due to the poor winter here in NH we just rode them in the back yard last year. I would say it's in good condition for the year. I want to fix it up and make it trail worthy for next winter. It seems to run well. What should I be concerned with replacing to get it in dependable condition. It has 4000+ miles on it. Track seems in good shape.

I hope I made the right decision!

So i was looking for a 2 up sled A/C or Doo. I came across a 98 ZR 600 for $450 runs good. The only issue I know of is a seat cover and some minor hood repair. The guy said he had a Yamaha also, don't remember what kind off hand but it was a 580 with a stuck carb. Told me both for $700. Sounds like a good deal but I don't have time for any projects.
Wish I did, but I'm putting in a new driveway and building a shed for my crap and existing sleds! Then I have to stain my house (cedar).
I figured by the time I was done fixing up the ZR I would be around $700 or so. And still not have a 2up! I can find a decent turn key sled for almost the same price.
So I think I am better off waiting till late summer or fall for something.
Just posting all this because I'm bored and haven't posted in a while!
Sitting on my garage and watching TV and starring at my sleds!
I hope you guys in CO have at least gotten a day of riding in?

Take care.

I hope I made the right decision!

Snowmobile storage

Hello everyone, long time no post!
Hopefully everyone is keeping busy (and those of you in CO. are enjoying the snow!).
So I was just wondering how you should store a sled. I'm building a shed and will be putting the sleds in it when I'm done. They are nearing 20 years old, but I was wondering about how to let them sit for the summer. I've been told to support the rear of the sled so the suspension hangs so the springs don't sag. They sit and ride good now. What about the front suspension? Seems I could get carried away getting the weight off the springs!
Otherwise all is good. I am hopefully going to go through the A/C front suspension like I did the rear and replace all the shocks.
Any info would be helpful!
Thanks!

Screw Head Types

One of my favorite fastener storage systems is to visit the sporting goods department of the local discount retailer and pick up a number of inexpensive fishing tackle boxes, as shown in the picture on this page. These Self Tapping Screws have adjustable dividers, so I can make the compartments the exact sizes that I need them to be to accommodate the screws, nails, etc. While this system excels for small screws and brads, it isn't the most effective for larger nails and screws. It also really only works for small quantities of smaller screws, nails and other fasteners.

There are some other ideas that I've tried for storing fasteners. I like to keep the small instant coffee, hot cocoa and breath mint tins when they've been emptied and use them to hold assorted fasteners. Large coffee cans with resealable plastic lids are another time-honored standby.

I used to keep any glass mayonnaise, pickle or peanut butter jars and use them for storing fasteners, but I got away from that method because I tired of having to figure out how to organize the jars and keep them from falling off a shelf and breaking. The biggest advantage of this method is that you can immediately see inside the jar to tell what fastener is stored inside. I even liked to cut off the label from the fastener box and insert it inside the jar so I know when I need to buy more.

However, I'm reconsidering implementing that method again, based upon a system that I recently remembered encountering about twenty years ago. In an old friend's garage, I saw that he took a 4x4 about two feet long and drilled a hole all the way through the immediate center (down the long axis of the stock) to accommodate a threaded rod. He put a couple of washers on each end, then inserted each end into 16-inch tall 2x4s that were mounted vertically onto a small homemade base.

This allowed the 4x4 to spin freely on the threaded rod axle. He then took a number of glass jars, removed the lids and screwed them onto the 4x4. When all four sides of the 4x4 were evenly filled with lids, he could fill the jars with fasteners, screw the jars onto the lids and, Voila! Instant fastener storage organization system! He could freely rotate the assortment and remove any jar whenever he needed a fastener.

With a little bit of thought, this system could easily be mounted on a wall so that it rotates vertically or dropped down from the ceiling so the rotation of the containers is horizontal.Din 571 could also probably find a number of uniform plastic containers with screw top lids that would be safer than using glass jars, which would easily break when my fumble fingers inadvertently drop one while trying to attach it to the lid on the storage system.

In the modular building industry

Often shipping Container House may get a dented roof due to handling while being loaded or unloaded from cargo ships. Should the containers roof get a dent in it where water can puddle it should be repaired before it rusts through. If you do find that you have water entering the container, the best fix is to remove the damaged portion of the roof and weld in a new steel roof panel section, however in some situations this is easier said than done. If the if the proper tools and equipment are not available then you need an alternate but permanent repair.

In the modular building industry we have had a great deal of success using a product called EternaBond to permanently seal the roof seams between building sections. EternaBond works on both metal and EPDM surfaces and it is used over and over again to join the roof seams on rented modular buildings. Modular buildings are delivered, set up, and used in sometimes caustic environments like chemical plants for several years. When the rental is over the roof seam is cut, the building modules pulled apart then sent to a new site where another slightly wider layer of EternaBond tape is installed right over the top of the old tape seam because the preceding layer is to difficult and time-consuming to remove. As the roofs aged and deteriorated with several layers of abandoned seam material a new EternaBond tape layer rarely failed us.

Steel is abiding and long-lasting. While animate containers can amount two or three times added than commensurable artificial ones, accustomed how stain-resistant, aseptic and adamantine they are, they will calmly outlive your artificial containers proving that the antecedent investment was able-bodied account the money. And as an added bonus, you apperceive they will be safe to canyon down to your children!

Steel is awful recyclable. Animate is a actual acceptable actual and the articles you acquirement will a lot of acceptable accept at atomic 75% recycled atom animate content. And if you adjudge for some acumen that you do not wish the artefact anymore, it can be endlessly recycled. In contrast, a lot of artificial aliment accumulator containers are not accustomed into borough recycling programs.

I would suggest that the humble shipping container represents the greatest revolution in the building industry for some time. As other materials are becoming less available and the issues outlined above persist and increase, shipping containers, which have outlived their original purpose, litter dockyards around the world. They are ready made housing modules, awaiting discovery and use. They are economical building blocks, more solid and durable than traditional materials and methods, which can be erected faster and more accurately than our current styles of Granny House .

best water sled/track

New to the sport. Have questions about open water sledding. What type of track is best for water (long track vs short track, wide vs narrow). Which tread is better for water. I assume a long wide track with longer tread is best but not sure. Looking to hear from folks who have done it.

Also curious to know the approximate weight difference between a 4 stroke sled vs a 2 stroke (similar HP versions-800 cc 2 stroke vs a 1000cc 4 stroke).

Damage Question

Hi everyone -

I am looking for an answer as to how one can cause a bent tunnel on a snowmobile. I rented a snowmobile Christmas day along with a friend and we went on a guided tour, stayed on the trail, did not run over anything except snow on a hard packed trail.

At one point we were going up a hill very slowly and the trail turned right and during the turn my friend caught the left ski in some powder and the sled dumped us on our left side. We didn't hit anything, it was slow and there was no damage to the left side of the sled.

The tour guide came to help us right the sled and asked about some damage he saw on the right and asked if we'd hit a rock. We stated we did not (and we had not).

The sled was righted and we continued to ride on the trails and around the rental company's open "race track" at relatively high rates of speed (the speedometer wasn't working on this sled the entire ride).

So is there any way this would have caused a bent tunnel?

I have been charged $1,000 to my credit card and I am disputing it. I am fine paying for damage I cause to anything but I sincerely do not think I damaged this machine. (there were no pre-or post-trip inspections either and the sled went out with the next snowmobile tour they had).

Does this make sense to anyone that we could have caused $1,000 damage by tipping it over on the left? And, if a bent tunnel could be caused like this would the machine run any differently or have substandard performance?

Thanks for any insights. I have to respond to my credit card company by tomorrow.

Cheers!

Stace

136 zrt 8 tooth drivers.

So I have a 136 Powder Extreme/ZRT and ran good this year and pulled hard but I think I lost a stud for every mile I put on. So I was looking at a new track and was wondering if going with 8t drivers would help me a lot as far as lug hight and if I would go with 8t. Is there any major down sides other than I lose my top end? Thanks

Speedway 440 Race Sled for sale!

Guys,
Just listed my Speedway 440 race sled on eBay. Thought you might want to take a look. The engine is a rare find. It is Spec. No. 11 70 08 which puts it as a factory mod engine. Kohler opened up the intake and port. The standard Kohler 440 ss engines were spec no 11 70 01 to 11 70 04.
Thanks!
