Secondary Clutch alignment

hey guys wanted to start a new thread. 1999 thundercat 1000. My secondary clutch is to far to the inside of the shaft causing the elf to catch on the stationary sheave of the primary when the clutch is loving. I installed a new secondary and new primary. Oem secondary brand new and a comet 108 4-pro for primary. I need to to go about 1/16 of inch maybe 1/8 out on the shaft. I already put two arctic cat spacer washers behind the secondary to move it out but I need to move it more. How many more spacer washers can input on from arctic cat before it's too much.

2017 Yamaha Sleds

Tomorrow Yamaha releases the info on their line up for 2017. I was on TY4 and got a glimpse of what is happening tomorrow before Yamaha discover there error and shut the new web pages down. Pretty exciting if you ask me. Am I allowed to disclose any info that I saw? Or do we have to wait until tomorrow?

Cracked Nosepan - 2002 XC 800

I was out riding over the weekend and blew a belt. I replaced with a spare and kept riding. When I got back to the garage I notice the nosepan (plastic) is cracked and the crack looks to have started where the clutch guard is riveted to the nose pan. I would guess the slap of the blown belt caused this? Does anyone have an suggestions for remedy to stop the crack from getting larger? I assume you would have to pull the engine if you wanted to consider a new nosepan...is that the case?

on my 96 Polaris 440 fan my the guide where my pull cord goes through is almost wore through. what upgrades has everyone done to fix this. pix would be great too. I think I have a handful of pulls left before either the cord breaks again or it completely wears through. I don't want to put a aluminum piece back in it.

'06 Yamaha Apex Mtn 162 New to me

So I still have my SX Viper and it now is back running great thanks to YammaDad
I just went out and bought a very nice condition 2006 Apex mountain 162 with only 900 miles. I think I got a pretty good deal.
What things should I do to it? Upgrades, things to look out for, whatever.
I do notice 1 thing that is prob normal on this sled but it kinda bugs me. Maybe I am wrong
On my Viper, when I have the throttle down a ways and then release, I get a good long coast as I slow down. The Apex almost feels like the brakes are applied when I let the throttle go or....
Best way to describe it is like driving your car in first gear and then just taking your foot off of the gas and not pushing in the clutch. It whines and slows down quickly.
Other than that, This sled is awesome and this sled is WAY different than my Viper. I am not sure which one I like better to be honest. I am sure I will get used to it

95 Ski Doo Formula Z 583

Hey guys I've got a 95 Doo 583, and carbs were just went through, and had some stuff put on. It is now idling low at idle or when you stop on the trail. The sled doesn't bog and runs excellent when you start going. When at idle it will sit there and jump between 0 and 1000 and might idle at 1200 give or take. Recently started...was idling at 1800-1900 where it's supposed to. Could this be bad plugs? Any input helps. Thanks.

1986 xlv 540

So I went out and picked up my sled after it broke the last time. I started talking it out with some friends and I had thought it could be a ignition problem but one friend suggested to check the clutch. I checked in the day light today and my main clutch has a big grove right where the belt sits, could this cause the sled not to go over 3000rpm? (Thinking it could be getting caught up on this grove) also when I went to pick it up the sled wouldn't go over 3000rpm but then I bounce on the seat while driving and it gets the power back until I let off the gas. Any help would be great and if anyone knows how much for a new one if I need one(I live in Canada)

Do You Have What It Takes?

:nerd:ave you ever thought about what you must be prepared to endure and do in order to be successful in business or your career?

I think I have been asked at least 5,000 times what it really takes to be successful in business, so I jotted down 10 questions you can use to gauge whether you already have what it takes, or if you need to do a little "work" to get there.

Drive Axle Bearing Replacement

I have a 1994 Arctic Cat Cougar 440 snowmobile that blew a pto driveshaft bearing. I got the 2 bearings, one for each side. Could I just get the little orings for them at NAPA? The one on the chaincase side is fine(I think, but I will replace it anyway) but the pto side one is non existent right now. Could someone tell me what to get for each side and where to get them?

trailing arm bushing

I need to replace the rear trailing arm bushing on my 2002 Polaris 800 xc sp (M-10). The old bushing is totally destroyed. The trailing arm bolt actually pulled through the trailing arm. The new one I purchased has a bearing with a center sleeve (that sticks out past the bearing about 1/2 inch on each side) through it which articulates. The new one is real tight to get in, almost to the point where I think it may be the wrong part. Should it fit that tight? Also, does it sound like the right part, or not? Thanks for any help.

Buy now or wait for snow check?? Need advice.

Hi Folks,

I have been out of snowmobiling for quite a few years and am getting back into it. I found good deals on a 2016 Polaris 600 Pro-S and an Arctic Cat 6000 Limited. (Polaris for wife, AC for me). With end-of year rebates and financing, the deal is good. What I don't know is how good of a deal do the dealers and manufacturers work during Snowcheck? Ordering the sleds is definitely my preference; however, I'd rather buy these 2016 sleds if 2017 will cost me thousands more, plus losing 0% financing. Generally speaking, how dramatic of a difference is there between buying on Snowcheck vs. end of year? I get that end of year is cheaper, but is it a LOT cheaper?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Good old sled to leave at cabin

I'm looking for a good older reliable machine to leave at our cabin for general use. Needs to have electric start and reverse so my 83 yr old father can start and run it, he really can't pull one over. Would prefer light weight as possible and long track, so two up if necessary. Air cooled is fine. Doesn't need a big engine. Any suggestions welcome, I'm not at all familiar older machine designs.

99 Indy 500 Using Too Much Oil

My dad has a 99 Indy 500 air cooled. It is using 3-4 times the oil it should be using. I gauged it by marking the oil level at full with a sharpy and with the fuel tank full I ran it down close to empty. Measured both gas and oil it took to refill to measured points. Instead of an appr 50/1 ratio I used four times that amount. What has to be repaired?

New releases

So Skidoo just announced their 2017 updates. Yamaha has been circulating a commercial saying something big is coming. I've not heard much from Cat or Polaris.

Skidoo's main changes are the new 850 motor and a new chassis called the Rev-G4.
The major improvement to the RevG4 chassis is definitely the strength of the front end. Grip and Rip braces were selling like hot cakes for the 2013-2016 models due to a weakness in the S-module.

Ergonomics were changed a bit, but until I actually sit on one, I just can't judge. The plastics look like they have more angles and such, hopefully out of the way of the knees.

And like Polaris's new motor with the lightweight crank shaft, only time will tell how that will work out for both Skidoo and Polaris. I'm not a big HP type person. 600 is enough for me and considering I ride with guys that have 800s and I'm usually leading or right on their tails, I don't suffer much. :p

So when do the other manufacturers announce stuff? What do you think Yamaha is doing? Rumors are talking about a Sno-bike from them that will be awesome enough to entice people convert.

Personally, I hate the snow bikes on the trails. Just went around a loop trail here that went up and down some steep hills. Every single one of the hills had a trench right down the middle about 12" wide. These are suppose to be nice groomed trails, but it is impossible for the groomer to fix those trenches.

New 2003 ZR 900 Sno Pro

Hey guys!!! Well I'm onto another sled now, finished the Thundercat up after years of work two days ago though!!!. Thanks so much everyone who helped. Well anyone today I bit the bullet and bought a near mint ZR 900. Has a turbo welded and trued crank by D&D, engine was sent it to D&D for porting and polishing, vforce 3 carbons, power breather, D&D y pipe and D&D Monster single pipe, new camoplast ripsaw and 144 stud boy carbide studs. New seat, gas tank, grips. Only thing that I have to replace is the idle screw got stripped somehow midway up the screw. So I ordered a new one and should be on the way. Clutching is also a D&D clutch kit installed. Picked it up for 2500. New fox clicker shocks all the way around and new fatboy springs as well. New bogies.

Sled does vibrate a lot at low idle and also, the idle will stay high around 3000 rpm then very very slowly take forever to get back down. I assume it is because my idle screw isn't ablento make the idle slightly higher? Has new seals and gaskets and what not. Other than that it rips hard. Anything I should know about this sled??????

Which tools need in the garage

Somebody who knows which tools you need in the garage to repair a Polaris Wide Trak '98?

I live in Europe, and my tools are metric.
I do have some SAE wrenches, so I want to buy some extra, but those sizes are like chinese for me.

For some sounds this like a crazy question, but in the years I drove VW buggies, I could write down the list of the tools needed so I hope to find a Polaris freak.

Veteran Sleds : Enduro

Another grey day and the white balance just went mad this time! As you can see, the snow is all kinds of different colours in these pics ... the exposure went west as well ... think it might be to do with the focus settings I chose, oh well, you learn something every day!

Anyway, this was a cool event, the course was 9km long, which is about 5 miles, and they rode 3 laps, no qualifiying, just one chance, a direct final! Wish I could have seen more of the course, but the snow was pretty deep here and almost impossible to walk through!

Panther/Pantera

Hello. So I'm keeping an eye out for another 2 up sled. I like the Ski Doo I have now. I'm looking at around 2000-2002 models. What are the differences between the 2? What would the best motor be? Not to concerned about high speed but faster is always better! I found an 01 panther that needs a bottom end! It's apart now and they want $650. Not sure I want a non running sled right off the bat! I have no issues with fixing or putting a reasonable amount of money into something. I just don't want a piece of junk!
Arctic Cat 2 up's seem very hard to find!
Also how would the mileage be on those? The ski Doo touring 380 sips gas even with 2 on it. The AC ZL 500 drank it like it was free, money isn't the issue, but distance is!

Track seized

This weekend we had one of the sled's track seize up while going about 20mph. First time happening and we didn't have a crazy carpet so we pull the track side up onto another sled and towed it back to the truck that way. We took it slow and stopped often so we didn't fry the belt on the towing sled but when we got to the bottom we stopped to let the belt chill and when we went to start the tow sled its track was also seized. When pulling on the original seized sled (purple) onto the trailer the track unlocked and began running like normal again so that's a plus. But now we have to figure out what we did to the towing sled (red) on the way down. Any info would help! Thanks guys

Failure in the Speed Sensor

I have a 2012 Arctic cat f1100 and when I was driving it, the snowmobile just stopped and an Ecu code came up on the screen and stated ECU 11, so I looked up what it meant in the operator's manual and the manual said that there was a failure in the speed sensor. So I was wondering, what can cause a failure in the speed sensor?

2010 800 Assault connecting rod blow up

SO my buddy wants to sell me his assault with 500-800 miles on newer engine.
The connecting rod bent and blew metal flakes all over inside the crank. My guess is that the carb float stuck and flooded the crank.
Indydan rebuilt the whole thing with new crank, etc...
He said it was a high compression head and he runs only racing fuel in it. It is a big time sled with every upgrade imaginable.

What needs to happen to replace the connecting rod?
What should something like that cost?
The top end is all off.
Luckily, the cylinder still looks and feels good. No scoring happened.

Thanks all

BTW he will sell it to me for $2k as is. Is that a good or fair price?

1991 Lynx 300 coil question

Hi, I just bought a 1991 Lynx 300 with a 340 Suzuki engine.

Today, it did not started so I have check the gaz, " Ok" , the spark plugs , they both sparks and get wet. I tried to poor some gas in the cylinder, Nothing . tried to spray some Carb cleaner in the intake, Still wont start.

I noticed that there was some arcing oh the coil bracket when pulling the crank I took off the coil and checked both ruber insulators they were fine. Now its arcing at the base of the metal bar hat pass thru the coil between both wire and that bar. I noticed that there seems to miss some resin where the metal plate bar junction the coil ( were its now arcing). Could that be the reason why it would not start ? Is my coil shorted. what about if I cover the arcing area with JB weld.

I have not owned or touch a snowmobile for the last 30 years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks !

Hi from Ontario, Canada

Hi Everyone, Thanks for accepting me to this forum. After being 30 years witout touching a snowmobile Both my kids ( 12 & 16) convinced me that it would be fun to get one so here I am with a vintage Arctic cat ( 1991) lynx 300 with a 340cc Suzuki engine.

I will certainly need some advices. That one of the reason I am joining your group !

Hi from Ontario, Canada

Engine rebuild...never?

How long have you seen a sled go with out a top end rebuild?

I've been looking at a couple of sleds, one has 6000 miles and the other has 9000 miles. The owners of each said that they've never rebuilt the engine and that the sleds run strong. Is that possible?

Mach Z 780

I have an opportunity to trade my 95 XCR 440 for a 94 Mach Z 780 with 4800 miles, a 136x1.5 track, and m10 suspension. The only thing is it has some rips along the seams of the seat. I don't know a whole lot about Ski Doos as I am more of a Polaris guy. What are the pros and cons of this sled? Are they somewhat reliable? What should I be looking out for if I do the trade? Any opinions, info, or specs on this sled would be appreciated. Thanks

Help me

I have a 2001 Polaris xc sp edge 500. I ran my sled down to no oil for a very short time. I put oil back in it and started to ride. My sled would only go a few hundred feet before it would just all of a sudden die. I started it back up and rode a few hundred more feet it died again. The engine locked up on me for 2 mins, I let it sit for 5 mins it started back up again just fine. Only a few hundred more feet to my trailer. Why does my sled only go a few hundred feet at a time? It runs just fine before it shuts off.

3 Deep and Still going...

Names Tony,
I'm 31 and live in northern Minnesota right on lake Superior. I've been riding sleds for about 3 years now, still have a allot to learn. Was a home body living in the city, then my parents purchased 40 acres of land a few year ago and we ended up going nuts.
I really have no clue what I'm doing, I have mild experience fixing a stuck clutch and replacing few lines but I get confused by oil to gas ratio and keep trucking along.
I work for an architecture company as the IT guy some how I could rip a computer apart in a heart beat but don't know did'ally about machines.

My sled are...
1965 Chalet; I'm the second owner, and the sled has the old ice fisherman's assistant mods. Added bumper, and a raised trunk seat. it needs some tlc as she's got a dent in her belly at the gas tank and has all kinds of surface rust.

1971 Chaparral 440 Executive with a 438 Hirth; this sled is my big excitement right now, picked it up last year at the end of the season. Its all original and looks great. This is the sled I wont let anyone else touch really. This is my hot rod if you will.

1972 Elan; this is my first machine, they previous owner did an appalling job of taking care of it. All kinds of busted parts and the hood is utter trash. It runs and is way fun to take off trail in the woods so eventually it will get a new hood would be a good candidate for maybe a powerModz adding new parts approach.

Other toys...

1970 Craftsman 4 speed riding lawn mower. Ya I know I put a riding lawn mower on here but when I got it this summer (broke my foot) the first thing that went through my head was, "Is everything I own going to be old?"

Last but newest, 2015 Polaris 570 wheeler, green.

They all get stored in my toy box (garage) with the exception of the lawn mower which is under my deck.

I'll throw some pictures up tomorrow when I can actually be home with the sun in the sky.

please help 2011 ski doo running terribly!!!

I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me out a little with a problem i'm having. I have a ski doo summit 800 2011 with 457 mile on it and it basically a paper weight at this point. i was out for a ride and it was a warmer day and it kept over heating i would pull over put snow on the tunnel and hang out for around 20 mins and let it cool off. this happened 3 times. The major problem hit when I was heading home I was heading down a groomed trail at about 60mph when it just shuttered and then started sputtering and running like garage. i was able to get it home but now the idle is extremely rough and it wants to stall you have to keep it alive with the throttle. I do not feel comfortable trying to attempt to drive it. the compression is 135 in both cylinders and the spark appears to be strong. It has fresh gas in it and was running great all day, with the low mileage i can't believe the carbs would be gummed up to the point of it running like this. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

90 Ski-Doo Safari GLX no spark

I own a 90 safari glx (500 Rotax Liquid). I had to replace the coil recently however after a bout 2 hours of run time it is no longer getting spark. Not sure if its the coil, cdi, or stator. With the stator it appears there is a brown wire with 2 yellow wires coming off it. Both yellow to browns measure 69 ohms (hopefully these were the right ones to test). The sled only gets used for when we ice fish on and off the lakes. Is there anyway to test the CDI or COil fairly easily. Looking for any suggestions. Thanks.

New motor is ran great now doggy.

I recently had my polaris liberty 500 rebuilt, rode it for the first time last weekend, put 150 miles on,it ran great. Now today it's about 20 degrees warmer and it takes off a little sluggish compared to before and will hardly do 50 to 60mph. It has a 136 on it and geared down a notch. Mechanic that rebuilt it said it could be running richer due warmer temp??? But I've never had problems in the past

Stiff Suspension on Edge

I have a 2002 XC 600 with Edge suspension. When I bought it, the previous owner had it set up very stiff because he was around 250 lbs. I'm around 170 and find it to be way too stiff for me. It kicks me off the seat, on larger bumps. How can I change how quickly the suspension springs back to normal position when it goes over bumps? I've set the torsion spring to the softest setting (my sag is still only around 3") and I changed the RRSS from high position to low position.

1986 Sprint 340......weird problem

I have a 1986 polaris sprint and its having some odd problems. It starts and runs fine, but some times when you give it gas, it just stays at 4000 rpm's and wants to bog and not move. Other times, you give it gas and she runs and drives fine. Also, sometimes when it bogs, it will idle down really low, to about 500 and just stay there. If it bogs, you have to lift the rear end up and rev it up to about 5 thousand and jump on and go and it will be fine and then eventully do it again. Any ideas on what could be causing this? The sled is basically MINT and has way under 2000 miles and was taken into the dealer every year for a tuneup and everything.
Oh, and I have removed and cleaned the carb jets put in new pulse line and filter and have rebuilt the fuel pump.........for some reason I am thinking the fuel pump is still the culprit as it seems to me that it just isn't getting fuel at full throttle????

Thanks for any help on this!

will this hurt my magneto?

so on my 99 RMK my headlight switch/button on the handle bar broke so to get my headlights to work i hot wired them so they are always on. was night riding a few weeks ago and decided my lights where not bright enough so i wired all three headlights to stay on at the same time. so my lowbeam bulb(big center bulb) and my two small outside high beam bulbs are all on. I also am powering my electric helmet visor off that wire too. my question is will this be too much current draw and prematurely burn out my magneto for voltage regulator or anything i should be worried about??

thanks

polaris 440 off idle bog

1993 polaris indy 440 just rebuilt top end and cleaned carbs.

i set air screws at 3/4 turn out, idle screws at about 3 turns out.

it starts up and idles at 2100 rpm and has zero hesitation and runs great, then when it warms up the idle drops to 1200 and then it bogs when trying to give it any gas at all and wants to die.

any ideas?

vmax trouble!! help!

so i have a 96 vmax 600 dx and it seems i have an issue at low rpm riding as well as at an idle somtimes. it almost seem like it is only running on one cylinder untill throttle is pinned and its at a high rpm then it runs great and sounds smooth. i dont have any back firing just sounds like its not running as it should. i put new plugs in made sure they were gapped correctly and had spark. that was good. also took carbs out and cleaned them up. they were very clean just a little sediment on bottomof bowl from old gas. i did put fresh gas through the tank as well....cleaned the main jets and the pilot jets thoroughly and re installed. im wondering what else could cause this issue. pistons are good as well. no markings. everything seems to be ok there. thanks to those who take the time to read and offer some advice!!! much appreciated!!

Yamaha Nytro Overheating

I have a 2006 Yamaha Nytro in great shape with about 2,500 miles. I was teaching my daughter to drive this weekend in about 10 degree weather but after driving between 10 and 15 mph the overheat light came on. I checked the fluid and it was full and very hot. When we hit an opening I sped up and it soon cleared the warning light but it soon came back on when we slowed down again. This happened several times as soon as I drove slow for about 10 minutes or so. Is this normal or should I do something?

Thanks in advance for your help

'03 SXViper oil splatter

Hello all,
I am having a bit of an issue with my 03 SXViper.
It used to fire up cold after 3 pulls every time and when warm, just 1 pull.
Now it is about 6-7 pulls cold and 6-7 or more when warm.
I lifted the hood up today and there is quite a bit of oil splatter coming from the exhaust. It is also consuming a bit more oil as well than usual.
When it does run, it seems to run fine, but does not like to start.

I was using redline snowmobile oil before and then I just had a hard time paying $60 for a jug of oil. I switched to Super Tech TC-W3 as I heard good things. Could that be the problem?

One thing to add is that I have not touched anything since I bought it. I got it at a little bit lower altitude and I ride up about 2000 or so more feet then the previous owner.
I shouldn't say that I haven't touched it. I pulled apart 2 years ago when I got it and cleaned everything and put back exactly as it was.

Thank you all for any help on this

Ski Glides

Hey all, I am new to Snowmobiling so I am seeking advise. I just bought a Polaris Indy Trail Touring and I have access to an older Load master tilt trailer with just a wood deck. I also have pieces of some skatelite ( decking for skateboard, bmx, and inline parks) and was thinking of using this on the trailer as ski glides. How do you think this would work?
What happening now is when I hit the trailer the carbides are digging in and stopping me in a hurry. Thanks in advance.

Track Clips replacement

So my dad just picked up a 1997 Artic Cat EXT from someone he knew, The guy told him they need to replace all the Track clips though because some are missing, and from what Ive read, its almost not worth it to replace all the Clips, as its cheaper to just buy a good used track. or should you replace all the clips or just the missing ones. I dont know much about the track clips (we do have the tool to do them though) any insight on this? itd appreciate it. Thanks!

gas station fillup no snow trail riding snow mobiles

Hi,
("I searched for the title of this post on the website before asking this very question.")

So when doing a gas station fillup with no snow in the gas station while trail riding, how do you get up to the pumps? Do you find most gas stations when trail riding leave snow near one set of pumps or a shovel behind?

Sorry I am very new to Snow Mobile riding and don't know much about trail riding. I am also interested how you get across the roads. Do we just beat up the skis to get across roads?

I'm interested, but not trail riding yet. I've only rented where they didn't go over roads, or now ran my machines on a Farm field and trails we are forging.

Also interested how you deal with rocks on home made trails or do you find rocks on the groomed trails in PA and VAST?

Interested in hearing your replies... thank you.

Help? Need suggestions

I own a 1987 Polaris Indy 400, and after my last ride I left the sled in my garage with no problems. Now however I started it last week and it sounded good so I turned it off and left to get more oil, gas, coolant, but when I returned gas was pooling underneath the sled?? Any ideas why? I was thinking broken gas line and hoping for it to not be a cracked engine block!?!

Polaris XC800 Belt Blows at high speed

I have a 2004 XC800SP with 7000mi. bought new. I blew 2 belts in a row only when I hit speeds above 90mph. Otherwise runs great.
Both times, I was unable to open the secondary to put the new belt on. A dealership had to use a press the first time to open it and remove some of the broken belt that was wedged. The second time when it stuck closed, I was able to put on the new belt, and rev it up to release the secondary. Need an idea why it keeps blowing. Motor mounts appear ok, Jack shaft appears ok, dealership said the secondary appears ok. No vibrations before it blows.

2001 RMK700 Headlight issue?

Howdy,
Last night, we took my girlfriends sled for a ride. When I started it on the trailer, the headlight worked on the low beam.
By the time I got it to the snow, only the high beams worked.

So, the center light keeps going out. This will be the second lamp this season. I also noticed when I started it today to change the lights, the high beams glowed but not full intensity. Turn it off, put in the new lamp, and re-started it, and both worked fine.

Is something starting to go? Voltage regulator? All the other electrics seem to be working fine. But she has blown some lamps over the last couple of years.
The sled has electric start, so I am thinking maybe it has a different regulator than a sled without electric start.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

600 summit etec sputter/ hesitate

Anyone know why my 2012 ski doo etec 600 summit sputters/ hesitates.
About 12-13 hours on the new top end 200 miles it was in break in mode but should be broken in. It has a hesitation when I pin the throttle at around 7900- 8100 rpm if I gradually speed up it doesn't seem to hesitate. But it's really annoying because it actually bumps the rpm down to around 7500 rpm when I do give it juice. It just doesn't seem right.
Anyone else have the same problem?

Some general questions???

Ok,

We went for a ride last night for Valentine's day.... Got up to the snow park late, since it was raining during the day, thought it would turn to snow later, but we went for a 12 mile ride in the wet....
A few questions came up..... riding on just the trails......

1. Ice scratchers? When to use them? I usually use them on the hard packed trails, and not when we are in the powder..... But what about wet pack? I am thinking we might as well use them all the time.... since more snow on the coolers the better in all conditions. When should we not use them? I know not to use them in reverse or putting them on and off the trailer......

2. When were unloading, had another sledder come over and ask if we had a winch or come along. I had a ratchet strap, and a tow rope. He had put his snowmobile in a tree well, and almost buried his other sled trying to pull it out. Got me thinking about having something like that to pull a sled out or a dead sled onto the trailer. Trying to decide if I should have something on the snowmobile or just in the trailer. Do any of you carry a winch or come along on your sled?

Any advice is appreciated. We have only been riding for a few years, and want to keep learning from those of you that have been doing this for awhile.

Had a great time last night, we had notified friends where we were and when we done, just in case, since we usually don't go out this late,
It was a ton of fun, even in iffy weather.......

VES valve problem!

I've got a BIG problem with my VES valves on my 2004 700 Edge VES. One valve is fractured 2X - 1) fractured at the end thread where it connects to the Cap/Nut and 2) shaft fractured where it joins to the guillotine.

The other valve seems in tact, but still won't come out.

Both guillotine valves are stuck in their slots. Both valves are "loose" in the slots, but won't come out.

What should I do?

Tolitson hr idle screw

I have a 1977 elan 250 twin deluxe with a Tolitson HR carb. Engine will not rev and runs ok at idle. It runs better when the idle mixture needle in fully seated and will marginally rev better. The carb has been rebuilt on many occasions and only performs when idle screw is fully seated. This model of carb only has one adjusting needle for low speed only....

Any suggestions for that aggravating issue?

Thanks...

Drive shaft bearing kits?

So I was out riding yesterday and my wife sleds speedo stopped working.
I no that if it stops working go back to the trailer ASAP so we did.
By the time we got back we could hear some sqweking noises on the clutch side bearing where the speedo wire goes into the drive shaft bearing.
The sleds is a old cat 93 wildcat
A very well maintained sled
I've found a bearing kit parts# 14 1008
it includes 2 bearings I assume one is clutch side and the other is chain case side?
If anyone can verify this it would be very helpful as I'm not aloud to ride without her....lol

I'm in canada and need to order probably from the states

New Sled - Skidoo Summit 1000 Highmark X

Got a new sled, wanted something a little more my size and something a bit newer. Found this Summit 1000 Highmark X 162" on Craigslist for $2000. Planning on going to northern Iowa next year to find some real snow, I don't think we've had more than 6" at any point in the last 4 years here in the Omaha area. I'm happy with it, its a huge change coming from a '98 MXZ 670 to this thing.

Making an Exciter 570 steer easier? Less tipsy?

We own a 1989 ish Yamaha exciter 570. It has loads of power, but the problem is steering. You can barely steer it when it is completely stopped. It is not s had to steer when you are moving, but still very tough. And is there anyway I can make it steer easier? Is there anyway you can make it less tipsy also?

04 Panterra Track rub

My son knocked the track off of my 04 Arctic Cat Panterra. The track was off the rear idlers and jammed tight against one side of the tunnel. I was unable to get it back on as it was -30. Ended up strapping a couple of crazy carpets to the track and pulling it approx 2.5 miles. Dropped the suspension and got the track back on and aligned. Track tension set so that I had 2 inches with 20 lbs of weight as per manual. Drive sprocket feels tight and teeth look ok and appear to be aligned correctly. No visual suspension damage. All bolts are tight. Ran the track while on stand and looked good. Even on both sides. Took out for a ride and it ran great on the straights but on the bumps the track rubs momentarily. Thought it was track tension so continued to tighten track....small amounts and continued testing on the bumps. Tension increase did minimize the amount of rubbing but did not resolve it. Even with track so high it was vibrating. I took it in to a mechanic and he is stumped. He confirmed that it is not ratcheting. Cant find the problem even with machine on it's side. He thinks a rail may be bent but I would think it would rub continuously then. I was thinking of adjusting the front spring tighter on the suspension....but sled ran great prior to incident.

Any thoughts?:)

Z 370 top end

I'm curious if the OEM gaskets are better than the Windrosa ones.

The two head gaskets in the Windrosa kit are the thin metal kind that have the ring.

I ended up using some high temp RTV to get a proper seal, but now I may be looking at doing another top end due to lack of oil (arrgggh!). 90/120 PSI.

Bolt Turns But Won't Come Out

Hi all,
I recently blew a drive shaft bearing so I had to take the suspension out etc. I started by taking the 4 bolts out to release the suspension. I got 3 of the 4 out, but that 4th one will turn but not come out. It doesn't turn super free but I'm not sure how to figure out if it is stripped or something else. Any thoughts? If it is stripped, what can I do about it?

Thanks for all of the great responses in advance!!

Chain cover gasket question.

Hello, need a little help with the installation of a new chain cover gasket...
I recently purchased a used 2002 Tundra R. Unlike other chain covers this sled's cover is not made of heavy metal but instead of aluminum & it has no drain plug but apparently has a gasket. I need to remove this chain cover to drain the used oil & what I want to know is when I install the gasket do I need to use any type of gasket compound or not???
Thank you in advance...

What plug should i run?

I was wondering what plug i should run in my sled. The sled calls for a br9es plug but i have heard that the br8es is a good plug to run because it is hotter so it will foil less plugs. I know that the xlt calls for a br8es plug. my sled is a 1996 polaris ultra sp 680.

My wierd experience with my Bearcat 2013

I was at camp for a couple nights. During one night we must have gotten over 2ft of powder snow. With all this snow I decided to rebreak in all the trails to my fishing lakes. The temp was cold too about -20 C. After breaking in all my trails, took about 2 hours... I decided to do some fishing. Like always I let my bearcat idle while drilled the holes and setup my lines. I fished for about 3 hours, and decided to call it quits... like usual, I started my bearcat, let it idle while I packed up my stuff. Once my gear was packed I was ready to go, but for some reason I gave the bearcat throttle it would not move, it acted as if I had the emergency break on, but again it would not move (why? I know wish I knew what was going on). I let the bearcat idle for a few more minutes and shut it of. And when I went to restart it, it wouldn't start. The only way I could start it was giving full throttle, and turning the key... it started this way... but as soon as I released the throttle, the bearcat would die. Eventually I got it going, same method as above, hopped on the bearcat and drove off. Now here's where another wierd thing happened. The bearcat was very peppy... and sounded funny (didn't sound right) I would just touch the throttle and it would go as if I was giving it half throttle. After about 5 minutes of riding, the bearcat when back to it's normal state and the throttle controls worked as normal. Any clues why it did this? And why it didn't move after packing my gear?

Ideas would be great, thanks.

So what is everyones opinion of why this happened. Fresh rebuild. Rev 800. Never taken above half throttle...okay, so maybe an occasional bump to 3/4, but never full.

Cylinder looks okay except a bit of build up from the piston.

Other piston is perfect.

Hello,
My wife and I are taking a quick getaway to the Lake Geneva area this weekend. We'd love to rent a sled or 2 for a day, but I haven't been able to find anyone in the area who rents.
All I've seen is 3+ hours north.
Is there anywhere within an hour of Lake Geneva that rents?
Thanks!

wide or narrow rollers?

I have a 1995 Polaris xlt that needs its clutch rebuilt. I don't know if i need the wide or narrows rollers. I would also like to know how you can determine if they have wide or narrow rollers. It also need the weights changed and it has the 10M weights. I noticed that the engine was kinda boggy until she got wound up. Should I change the weight of the weights or should i just get a different clutch spring?

New top end rebuild break-in opinions?

Okay thiers no 100% way to break in a motor no matter if you call Polaris, Yamaha, Arctic Cat everyone has different veiws can i get some of the opinions of you guys?
How i do it, ive broke in about 2-3 sleds since ive been riding they work great but any more techniques on what could help would be cool! What i normally do.

1. Start the sled run till the engine is somewhat warm shut off
(Repeat step 1 about 3-4 times letting the engine cool between)
2. Than i lift the end up and run it for 1/8 - 1/4 throttle
(Shut off after engine is warm, repeat 2)
3. Get it up to the mtn. let it sit for 4-5 mins idling
4. Go easy on the gas for 1 maybe 2 miles
5. Than ride it like normal getting on the throttle alot more than normal
6. before you shut off let it sit for around 5 mins again
(I am NOT looking for criticism on how i break in my sleds)
Just how you guys do it thanks!!!

Hi guys looking for some help from any one who knows skidoo. This is my first skidoo engine I've ever worked on and its weird as heck to me.

Head bolts(jug bolts, whatever you call the longer ones that sit down in the jug).....where do the short two bolts go? People on another forum say above the rave valve but that's confusing to me because the bolts are on the 4 coners of the jug and the rave valve is in the center.

'86 Yamaha Enticer high idle

When I was going to fire it up the other day, it took more pulls than usual so i gave a shot of ether. Still wouldn't start, so gave it a few more shots and it completely came to life BUT it throttled all the way up and I had to jump on it as it shot out of the garage. It wouldn't really slow down but as I was getting around back to the garage it started to lessen the RPM's and idle a little and I turned it off. I started it again and it did the same exact thing, completely full throttle. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Snowmobile is bogging

So i tore apart my sled because it was bogging awhile ago but it would stop bogging when it got nice and hot. so i took off the carbs and got them all cleaned up and then put them back in and it didnt seem to have a bog but now the idle was high. so i got the idle kind of under control and now its bogging again but i havent gotten a chance to test to see if it stops when everything is all warmed up and hot. Im thinking it could be the clutches? i think this because when it had the high idle i got it hot running it on the stand and then i took it off the stand and ripped it around the yard and there was no bog at all. thanks for the help in advance.

I just bought a new cylinder walls for my 1998 RMK 500, everything set PERFECTLY, water cooler, head bolts, cylinder bolts.. I get to where the carb boot is and the carb boot seems to be a little bigger on this cylinder wall than my last cylinder walls.. It appears as if these holes are a little further from the center than my last one. The holes are the same (Same bolt works on it) diameter and everything its just the bolt pattern on the boot is a little bigger

Old boot specs
Hole Diameter: 1 1/2 inches
Bolt to Bolt: 2 7/8 inches

New spec
Hole Diameter: 1 1/2 inches
Bolt to bolt: 3 3/8 inches

So do i just need to get the boot with the wider bolt pattern? They didn't know what year the walls came off but its a perfect match (For EVERYTHING else).. Anyone have any thoughts?

Skilaris

Okay call me crazy foolish or what other names you can think of but i put a 2012 ski doo 800 etec into my 05 Polaris IQR chassis. I had it running but while hooking up my tail light i must have shorted something out now the injectors wont inject any fuel. I can get the motor to run by spraying gas into the throttle bodies. I have jumped the fuel pump and the does turn on and off also i have tested with a test light and have power there. Where do i go to next? Did i throw a code to cause it not to start? Fry a wire in the harness somewhere? I made sure all fuse were okay and put all new relays in. Is there a oil lever fuse? I did not find that or check it. Thanks in advanced for all of your input.Attachment 52297

2006 Indy 500

What would the value be of a 2006 Indy 500? The dealer said it was carbbed but for some reason I had it in my mind they were efi. Had 2600 pull start and no reverse. He is asking $2600.. Worth it? For the girlfriend who currently rides 94 Indy deluxe.

RXL 650 EFI backfire, won't Rev up

Okay here's the scoop on my RXL, the registration card says it's a 91 but I thought it was more like a 94 due to the body but anyways I can look into that more if it's necessary right now. My brother bought this sled 3 years ago, it would run for about 10 to 15 minutes then it was like you were hitting the killswitch let it cool down for about 5 min and it would fire right back and run great for the same 10-15 min and do the same thing. It was pulling a code for the air temp sensor in the air box so he replaced that new battery new spark plugs new fuel filter the one that is about the size of a car fuel filter. That did not change the way it was running and he got sick of it so there it Sat. I bought the sled from him the next year had to replace the battery again also I replaced the voltage regulator, that didn't fix the problem and I didn't have time to work on it now this year I started digging into this thing.... I could not get the battery to take charge so again I bought another new battery it wanted to start with a little starting fluid but could not get it to run. I was told to check the throttle position sensor so unknowingly I tested it the wrong way I pulled the throttle position sensor out of the sled and was checking it with a voltmeter turning it. Put it back together, found out that the fuel line in the tank was rotted away, so I replaced that and the other inline fuel filter under the air box. Finally it started Idled and ran good for awhile the next morning my dad and I went out to play for a little while and it ran amazing for about 10 minutes then we shut them off geared up and it did not want to start very well but then fired and ran decent for a mile or so, started backfiring on me a little bit the next thing you know it died, it was pulling a code for the crankcase temp sensor, I let it cool down got it fired back up and limped it back to the house but it was like I was hitting a rev limiter... also I forgot to mention that it would idle at about 4 to 4500 rpm and when I was on it pretty good it was running really really high 7 - 8000 if I remember right I didn't know if it was just a gauge goofing up but I could tell from the sound of it she was running high... now I can get it to fire up but running 4 - 800 rpm idle and wanting to die but then idles back up, if I touch the gas it will typically die but playing with the throttle I can get it to rev up but not high enough to engage the track, and it will keep backfiring on me! Sorry for the book here but I'm trying to get all my knowledge of the issues out on the table! I'm thinking throttle position? Anyone ever had this problem!????

Hi my 06 ski-doo is having a problem with starting up, it won't show the lights or anything, all it does is make a clicking sound by the fuse box, it was turned on like 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if one of my fuses is blown or my battery, I just bought a new battery today and was charged fully in like 20 minutes when the box said 5-10 hours. PLEASE HELP!

Jag: Difficult cold starting

While the snow situation hasn't been that great, I've at least been able to take the Jag out for a few laps each weekend up North.

It's taken quite a bit of pulls to get started after sitting for a week. The Puma will usually light up in 3-4 pulls; the Jag takes a dozen or more. Once the Jag has warmed up, it fires up no problem at all. Fuel lines look good once it's running; no bubbles.

The Jag has: All new fuel lines, completely rebuilt carb (and a spotless pilot jet) fuel pump has been rebuilt with a rebuild kit. Plugs were newish looking when I picked it up. Compression is at 120psi in each cylinder. Impulse line is new.

I did have to adjust the choke plunger a bit in the off season; I may have to go back and measure the freeplay to ensure it's dialed in.

Gas is fresh and the tank is full. I have noticed a slight leak if I leave the shed on the steep angle of the shed ramp for a bit of time; I think it may be gas coming out of the breather.

Let me know what you guys think. Not sure what to check out next. :dunno:

Speedometer isnt working

got my sled running today and noticed the speedometer isnt working but the tachometer is? This doesnt make sense to me at all because dont they run through the same wire? ill try replacing the wire and if that doesnt work maybe my drive shaft bearing is going out? i noticed the wire is kinda ripped where the hood folds open.

97 Trail Touring Problems

Hello I am wondering if someone can piece this puzzle together.... I have a 97 Indy Trail Touring that I use mostly for ice fishing and pulling kids around the house. It only has 1600 miles because it sat for a number of years. Got it going a couple of years ago. Recently I've had problems with the sled becoming very boggy on take-off after it warms up. It runs great after first start-up, but after awhile it becomes very boggy. One time I could barely get it to move. Once I get through the bog, it runs good at higher speeds.

I've checked out the clutch, both primary and secondary seem to be working correctly. Also cleaned the carbs back when I got the sled going.

Here's another issue that I have: The headlight goes dim intermittently. Wonder if these issues are related an I have an electrical problem? The timing of the lights going dim doesn't always line up with the engine problem though. I've read on a forum about someone having a problem with the coil exciter and voltage regulator. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Starting problem

We have a 2000 Fuji 600 it will start fine but after riding for awhile and shut it off it will not start without sitting for some time. We checked spark and you can see gas going thru the line but the odd thing is the plugs are dry. Yesterday we changed plugs and it fired up, the plugs that were changed looked good btw. But after riding for a short time shut it off and would not start again. Any ideas of what else we could check? Thanks in advance.

RMK bogging, dropping cylinder?

So one of the RMK's started acting up this weekend.

It's a 1998 600 RMK Indy bored out to 650. She starts and runs fine but then it will bog down and feel like she is only running on one cylinder, then out of no where she picks it back up again. This happened all day yesterday up and down the mountain. I think it may be carb related, she is jetted for this altitude and the motor has never had any issues. It may be that the carbs just need a good cleaning but I figured I would ask before pulling them. Any input would be awesome! Thank you :dunno:

2004 Ski doo setting code

New to this sport. Just purchased a 2004 summit REV in good shape. Just had the 800 CC rebuilt. Runs very good with tons of power. The issue is that after you start it with the electric start the speedometer goes to 125 and sets a code in the digital read out of 136. The needle does go up and down with the rpm's of the engine. The code does not change. Any one that may help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Blew up Ski doo 2012 600 etec

2012 summit 600 etec................... Bought it rebuilt a month ago 3000 miles on the body 0 on rebuild. Went because failed oil pump. Drove it 100 miles and noticed it died switching to reverse so took it in they said 1 piston scored! From loose oil line talked to the guy I bought it from he said he would replace the top end for free ( bought from dealer) so they replaced everything then the mechanic took it for a test ride and blew it up in the first kilometre. They said this was caused by wrong sized piston not sure why they didn t measure? So now I have the option to rebuild it for free again or get my money back. But lose 800$ in taxes and registration. Is it worth to rebuild it again? What if it happens again is there something real wrong with the engine?

Couple of face-palms

My son had someone attempt to steal his Z 370 the other day. This machine has been through hell and looks like it to. The hood is all stitched together with bailing wire, just using a bumper mount light on top. It was running like crap when the would-be thief took it away. Drove it around for a little bit and then dumped it in the neighbors yard. It had a head gasket leak. We pulled it into the garage and replaced the head gasket and fixed up rear bumper and ignition switch (just toggle switch) issues.

He took it over to his friends house for an evening and then couldn't get it started it again. They loaded it up and brought it back home. Figure the new gasket wasn't doing its job (one of those thin metal type), we pulled the heads off and fix it again. This time with a little bit of RTV.

Next day we tried to start it and it would not even fire. Pulled and pulled, no fire, check the plugs, dry as can be. I go to pull the top off the carb so I could look down inside and see if it was even get gas to and through the carb. In the process, I see a hole...right where the choke cable is suppose to be. D'OH. But not to be out-done. When I put the choke back together and plugged the hole. It started right up and just about took off toward the garage door. Seems I should tighten down the carb top again before pulling on it.

Thing runs like a champ. Probably needs clutch work though.

2002 Tundra R, Eliminate oil injection?

Hello, I'm not at all mechanically inclined so be gentle with your response...
Just purchased what appears to be in excellent shape a 2002 Tundra R.

Bottom line is for those out there that have experience & knowledge in reference to Tundra's that are equipped with an oil injection system and the apparent problems of failure of the system for whatever reason, would you recommend eliminating the system & go pre-mix or is there a fix if some sort to the failure problem??
Thank you in advance...

Since last year my recoil has been recoiling very slow on cold starts. warm starts no problem. recoil is only a few yrs old. Ignition Help

Hello all, new here. I rode my brother's 2011 Polaris pro r today and ended up losing the key. I called the dealer and they informed me I could either buy a whole new ignition or remove the ignition and take it to a locksmith to build me a new key. I'm wondering if there is anyone who can give me a detailed description on how to remove the ignition. Or if there is a better way out there please help me! He wants to ride tomorrow afternoon and is very pissed at me!

02 MXZ fuel pump rebuild kit

I have a few of these early 2000's mikuni fuel pumps that im trying to find rebuild kits for. They are almost identical to the Mikuni MK-DF52-531, but these ones have a taller cylinder at the back of the pump. I cracked one open and looked inside, the MK-DF52-531 kits will not fit. The anatomy is entirely different (there is a thick plastic gasket sandwiched by two rubber gaskets connected through the plastic one by a metal plunger. the spring is also significantly longer). Does anyone know where to find rebuild kits?

ok to reuse these parts during rebuild??

Hi guys, my friends 97 mxz 670 needs new pistons, we ordered them up from denniskirk.com so we can get the asap but they did not have roller bearings in stock. we just got dumped on with 12"+ of snow and want to go riding asap!

so my first question is how acceptable is it to reuse the roller bearings at the piston pin?

second question is the cylinder head ended up with some pitting on the one side from melting piston chunks flying around. can we just sand paper it smooth and use it?

thanks

New guy from the Philly area

Hey everyone, i’m Ed and live just outside of Philly, PA. I have ridden sleds out west many times and in Maine a few times. Having the opportunity to ride on both coast, I can say it is night and day the West coast have some trails and more powder and the East coast are more trails and less powder. With that in mind I will be purchasing my first sled and will be looking to the more knowledgeable for advise. This is what I have been looking at. I want a Crossover, because I do like going off trails, unfortunately I need a sled that will fit a second seat because of the girlfriend, that does limit me in the type of Crossover I can buy.

I have narrowed it down to three and would like your feedback on them if possible.

In no particular order

1. The Arctic Cat 2016 XF 7000 CROSSTOUR but it has a Track Length of 146in and in my opinion I believe it may be to long for trails.

2. I am also looking at the Polaris 800 Switchback Adventure with a Track Length of 137in.

3. The last one is Ski Do Renegade Enduro 1200 4-TEC also with a Track Length of 137in

All three sleds have an optional 2up seat that can be removed when riding alone.

I will be riding in NY, Maine and VT and will not be hauling them out west.

Thanks for any feedback you can give.

Flooded? Sled won't start...

I have a '97 Polaris XLT and it won't start or stay started. I was wondering if I am flooding it by pulling it too many times on full choke.

How can I tell if I'm flooding it?

It started for a minute or so but when I squeezed the throttle the RPMS went up to 4500 but the sled didn't move.

One thing I did notice a few weeks ago when it started is that after I ran it for a while it would die when I idled.

Any suggestions?

Severe bogging at 2 mile mark - 95 500 Carb

I would welcome any suggestions for my 95 500 Carb machine that works well when cold and at about the 2 mile mark, severely bogs down. Engine will continue to run but will not engage the clutch. If I let it sit for awhile and it cools down, I can start it and run it for about 2 miles and then then severe bog again. This occurs almost like clockwork.

I have done:
Change plugs
Cleaned carbs
Checked spark
Clutch: Seems in good working order
Choke: Start well. With 1/2 choke when warm will kill engine.

Thanks for your feedback.

1994 Polaris rxl Indy 650 problem

I am new to this forum but find myself on here plenty of times to try and figure out problems, well I have been working on this 1994 Polaris and I can't get the efi to turn on. When I disconnect the brown( efi) relay and put power to the red/blue wire and ground the ground out the efi blinks but when it's plugged Into the relay it does not, I also tested all relays and they all click. Thanks for reading hope you guys can help!

new belt--clutch to tight???

have a polaris edge touring 550 2 up machine. so last year i put a new clutch on it and with the old belt had no problems. this year when i went to put a new belt on it i had to start it with the rear end up in the air to get it to take off, and then could not stop?? I know it is the right belt for the machine as i had bought the same number before. so is the clutch adjustable?? was i sold the wrong clutch?? what to do?? THANKS in advance, George

DPM hooked up right?

Hey all,

We're having a hell of a time with this 2002 MXZ we purchased. We thought it was altitude issues at first but yesterday we had her around 6,000 ft (low for us) and she was still having the same problems. Can anyone tell me if we have this DPM hooked up right? Seems like we're missing a hose.

Thing will fire up first pull and run great, then when you shut it off it will not restart until it wants to. We thought this was just at 10,000ft since she's a low lander, but as i said happened around 6 yesterday too.

Getting fed up with ripping our shoulders out and never getting to ride a whole day, not to mention towing her back to the truck everytime then trying to load her with no power.

Thanks a ton guys! Any info would be very much appreciated!!
