Exercise and diabetes affect amount of fat inside bones

Exercise and diabetes drugs affect the amount of fat inside our bones, which could play roles in the health of our bones. Our bones are not stagnant, rock-like things. They change. Marrow the tissue inside bones is full of various kinds of cells. And marrow is also full of fat. The amounts of these cells and fats can decrease or increase over time. And the production of these marrow cells and fat depend on a specific type of progenitor cell called a mesenchymal stem cell.

Shadow-Boxing!

Alright folks, this is actually a great way to do cardio that many people don't think about!

All you need is a bit of space! Jumping is optional so it's also a good low-impact option.

Here are a few videos so you get the idea;

http://ift.tt/1nXb3nM (When I first tried it, I just copied what this guy was doing)

http://ift.tt/1iLLYig

http://ift.tt/1nXb3nQ

Since you're doing this for cardio purposes, technique is not really important as long as you keep moving.

You can also do intervals with this. Do a couple minutes of shadow boxing and add a 30 sec - 1 min interval of a bodyweight exercise (Jumping jacks, burpees, etc) every now and then to keep the intensity high(er).

So go ahead and try it!

Beginner who needs professional advice

So hi, I'm Elliot.

I am a 5ft2 168lbs (12 stone) female-to-male transgender. (Just putting that there so people know I have a female body but would like to be referred to as 'he'!)

I used to be really athletic but I turned to food in 2011 due to depression. Luckily the bingeing has stopped because I use MyFitnessPal.

My goal is to be 130lbs (9st7) to be healthy and look more masculine.

I wanted some fitness advice... So here goes!

Basically, I am doing weight training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I walk my dogs everyday for an hour and burn 210 kcal according to MyFitnessPal. I just starting to use FitStar in 28minute intervals through out the week. (Burning about 176 kcal each time).

MyFitnessPal says I should eat 1,410 kcal a day but I usually only eat 1,000 to 1,100; plus the exercise means I have about 400-800 kcal left everyday.

The reason I am saying all this is because I am one of those people who turns to food and gives up when I see no result after 2 minutes!

I would like to know how long it will take to get to 9st7 (my healthy bmi) doing these activities and dieting.

And if there are any fitness apps/ activities you recommend to cause less impact to my body but burn a sufficient amount of calories.

Thanks,

Elliot

I lost 20 pounds in two weeks! I didn't think it was possible either

Can't believe I went from 230 lbs to 209 in such a short period of time. I have to say the video helped me out a lot. It explained to me the routine and also gave me a free e-book, which goes into detail on how to stay consistent. The problem people have when trying to loss weight is laziness and lack of motivation. However, with the help of this book you'll change your life around before you even know it. :hurray: I can now stand next to people who are slimmer and feel confident. I no longer have to make up an excuse when people ask me take a picture. I also notice I get a lot more attention and I owe it all to this e-book. I can honestly say this is one book that I would actually pay money for. Overall, my body feels healthy physically as well as mentally and most importantly, Im happy. :)

Desperate need of weight loss help

Hello, my name is Luke, I am 18, and have been somewhat overweight for a long time. I am 5'11, and 220 pounds. 5th grade is when I started to gain, I was a tad chubby, nothing too bad. Around 8th grade and Freshman to Sophomore year, I noticed I was pretty big and out of shape. My Junior year, I took weight training with one of those "Legendary" coaches that will go down in history, I will definitely remember him down the road. I gained six pounds of pure muscle during a 5 month semester of weight training, and I didn't eat right either, which is why I didn't lose weight. I went through hell and more in that class, and I was considerably fit.

But now, I recently graduated high school, and I'm supposed to be happy I'm out of school, quit my job at McDonald's, which I worked from February to late June. (This added to my weight gain as well, even though it was a short lived job.) So now I have all this free time, and I start college a little under two months from now. Which is, I think, ample time to begin a good work out habit.

I've pretty much been overweight for about 6-7 years. Now that I've wised up and realized my current condition (I have really high cholesterol, getting close to the danger zone), I have to go far out of my comfort zone to lose weight. The problem is, I'm too lazy, and undetermined to start again. I did a work out once, but at 2 am (That's when I am actually awake) and it felt good, but I didn't feel that "fire" or burning sensation to start working out again.

Whenever I wake up in the morning, about 9 am or 10 (I consider this early), I feel pretty weak, and always have a minor headache. I really, really want to lose weight, but I am confused as to what to do to get myself determined. I also live in Arizona, I made it bold to emphasize where I live, because currently it's 100+ degrees Fahrenheit outside, and I can barely step outside without already sweating.

I don't want to keep going, I know I can make paragraphs and paragraphs, so I'll cut it short here, maybe make a new thread elsewhere.

Thank you if you actually read this, it's pretty hard to get all of my problems and issues out in the open.

Sweeteners vs Sugar

So I heard recently that sweeteners, both artificial and natural (stevia etc) still cause a spike in your insulin levels, which in turn causes you to gain weight.

The other thing about artificial sweeteners is that they potentially contain some unpleasant chemicals (cancer, anyone?).

So should I just be having sugar in my coffee? Should I be giving up all sugar/sugar substitutes?

Does anyone have any insight on this? Would really appreciate some knowledge/personal experience.

Thanks in advance! :)

Weight loss question

ok so im a 15 year old boy that is 5'10 and i weight 170. i plan on loosing weight at planet fitness by walking on the treadmill for 7-10 miles then using the stationary bike for about 30-45 minutes then i will lift about 75 pounds of weight. i also plan on eating right. will this allow me to loose about 10- 20 pounds?

Serious weight loss help.

I'm only 15, male, 6 foot 3 and weigh 400 pounds. that is a lot weight, right? I'm so disgusted with myself and have no motivation whatsoever anymore......Am I at risk for health problems at this weight? I can't even get on the regular electronic scales anymore that you can buy at the grocery store. I either have to go to the doctor or someplace other. I'm gaining weight pretty fast and can't get around that easy. I guess all of this added weight wasn't really my fault because I have some medications that prevent me from really noticing how much I'm eating or in other words I'm always hungry, and I can't really stop these medications, they're really important. any help would make me feel very grateful, thank you.

Wanted!! Women Aged 18-56 Who Want To Lose As Much As 15 lbs In 3 Weeks

Hello,

So i came across this site called Venus Factor. What is Venus factor?

The Venus Factor is a total body program designed by John Barban, together with Brad Pilon. It is created with the woman's body in mind, with the nutrition and workout programs included targeting the shaping of a woman's specific physiology. It's not a weight loss program , it's a program designed to help women achieve the best shape for their body.

The Venus Factor Diet Plan - Leptin Hormone

Since men and women are created differently, what works for men make not work for women because the metabolisms are not the. The one hormone that controls 100% of your body's ability to burn fat is Leptin. Basically, low levels of Leptin slow down your body's metabolism and signal your body to store fat while high levels of Leptin speed up your metabolism and signal your body to burn fat. Although women have twice as much Leptin that men, they face two unfortunate issues that keep them from losing weight successfully. The first problem is Leptin resistance. Women can be three times less responsive than men to Leptin's signal to burn fat. The second problem is an instant drop in levels of Leptin causing a weight loss plateau. When levels of Leptin decrease, your metabolism stops suddenly as well and slows down.

The new solution and future to female fat loss is the Venus Factor System. The Venus Factor, created by fitness professional John Barban, is a 12 week weight loss plan designed specifically for women to increase the metabolism helping you lose weight and bring out that sexy body in you with long term fat loss. We all know that there is no such thing as a magic "pill" or formula to make you lose weight instantly but instead it takes hard work and dedication to be successful at weight loss. The Venus Factor only sticks to the facts backed with credible research and expert advice from professionals.

Venus Diet Program - Female Fat Loss

Included in the Venus Factor System are excellent advice, a great app, a helpful online society and a motivational boost to get you going all for an incredible price of $47. I have read all positive Venus Factor reviews and have not come across any Venus Factor scam so far. Women all over the world are achieving amazing results which means the Venus Factor works. The easy to follow plan that the system has makes fat loss fun and you will get motivation with the quick results you see. The best part is that you get a full 60 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied so you really have nothing to lose.

I am personally excited that women finally have a weight loss plan just for them that will help them lose belly fat and lose weight fast to get that sexy body they always dreamed of. John Barban made a smart decision by focusing on our women and helping them lose weight successfully. The bottom line is that the Venus Factor will show you how to control your Leptin levels and burn that body fat once and for all. Fat loss doesn't come easy and you must stay dedicated to eating healthy and exercising for at least an hour each day. You will see results if you work hard and stick to your plan.

Here is the site http://0a5592rm4opg1n5lpl-qndpp4h.ho.../?tid=VENUSIND

I know that many people tried this and it worked like 88%

I hope this method helps you all the women out there! Burn that fat!

My journey and I could use help...

Hi All,

I am currently on a weight loss journey. I have always been overweight and I feel now is the time to get things in order.

When I started this journey I was tipping the scales at 135.3KG. I started exercising on March 25, 2014 and I am now down to 124.7KG.

I will give you some background. Before I started exercising my breakfast could have been anything from a sausage sandwich to toast with butter and marmalade. Lunch could be a full meal or a chicken roll or something like that. Dinner again would be a full meal, some meat, mashed potatoes and veg. There would also be snacks in between and fizzy drinks of course. Going all out lol.

Since I started exercising I cut out everything and I am happy to say I have a strong willpower and now 3 months later I do not have any cravings. My eating plan now is. Cereal and a 0% Fat yogurt for breakfast. Macaroni for lunch (Pasta :/) but not a big portion and sometimes I will include boiled rice but again not a big portion. Dinner could be noodles with some pork or some stir fried rice. None of these are big portions. I am also only drinking water now. A good estimate would be about 2ltrs of water per day. That's it nothing else.

When I started, I started with the insanity weightloss program and did the first half of it. It was probably too intense for me as my body just ached after it so I gave that up but with the determination to try something else. So, I went outside and started walking and running. I started to get shin splints but again this didn't deter me and I continued to go on. So, I went and joined a gym. That is where I am currently. I am doing 30 minutes cycling and getting up to 11KM so I think fairly good and 30 minutes walking with speed at max 5.5, yeah not much but its all I feel I can do, and I cover about 3KM with that. I do this 5 days per week.

That is all I am doing for the moment and I am shifting 1.5KG on a good week and the next week it could be 0.7KG. Feels a bit frustrating putting in the hard work and being covered in sweat but yet it is moving quite slowly.

My goal... Since I started my goal is to be 90KG by 18 October, 2014. There is an important family event then and I want to be in shape for it. So, right now I need to lose 34.7KG in just under 4 months. I want to think its doable but maybe you guys will know better.

So, there you go, that's my story of where I have come from, where I am at, and where I am hoping to go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for reading.

Newbie wishing to say Hi!

Hi I have decided to join this forum because I am interested in the Health and Fitness and Weight Loss Niche, mainly because I have struggled with the over weight problem all my life. I have managed to lose 50 lbs from dieting four times in my life, the first time was very easy, the next time not so easy and so it became harder to lose weight each successive time, and now I am back again to struggling to get my weight under control and am finding it extremely difficult to do so. So will be interested in hearing what anyone here has to say on the subject.http://ift.tt/1qRIBIM

Completely lost, but still determined

Hi,

I am 23, and around 20/21 my hormones went wacko and my weight went through the roof, I was dropped from my ship date for the Army and spiraled into a pretty serious depression. I am now 75 pounds away from being able to enlist and I have decided to get up and brush my depression off and make it. Hopefully here I will be able to gather some good information and make my dreams of enlisting a reality despite all of my knock downs.

No energy

Hello, I am a gastric bypass patient (7 years now). I have lost 130 lbs and have been able to maintain my current weight of 180 lbs. My only problem is that I no energy to do anything. I am always fatigue and sleepy. Any suggestion please??? Thank you.

Joint problems

I have painful hips, knees and ankles all caused by being overweight. I have a great deal of weight to lose so am taking it a chunk at a time so as not to find it too daunting. It will take a heck of a long time, because I have found to my cost (financial as well as well-being) that crash dieting isn't for me. I lose the weight OK but put it all back on rapidly when I start to eat healthily. So its slow but sure for me now. Low fat, low carb and exercise. Hope to get some motivation on here

Benefits of Lap Band Surgery

The Lap band helps patients suffering with obesity and weight related medical disorders to lose weight by restricting how much food could be eaten over the course of a day, resulting in weight loss.

The Lap Band procedure is much more advantageous than other methods since it includes benefits such as:

  • No stapling or cutting of the stomach muscles

  • The size of the pouch can be adjusted according to patient needs, even after surgery

  • May be removed or reversed

Top 3 exercises to keep your stomach flat

Exercises and healthy activities keep your body flat and fit. You feel fresh and enjoy the life with your daily exercise routine.

You probably worried if you have a stomach that is out of its control.

Weight loss and getting a flat belly is a common question asked by women. Many men ask this in their older age. Not only age but various factors are contributing in making you fat.

Here are some surprising exercises that help you to reduce the belly fat.

First exercise is the bicycle that you perform with your arms and legs. In his exercise you have to lay down on the mat or some plain surface. Keep your back on the floor. Place both your hands on the back of the head. Then start raising your one leg and bend its knee. Keep it closes to the stomach. This applies pressure on the belly. Move second leg upward in the air and keep it straight. Touch your elbows with the leg knee. Continue this process several times in 5 minutes.

Second exercise is called boat style. This is a common exercise for reducing belly. Aerobics and cardiac exercises use this style for their students who are looking for the best exercises to reduce belly.

Third exercise which is mostly used worldwide is the plank. In this exercise you keep your back upside down and you stay upward on your toes and arms. Keeping stretched your tummy and legs you remain still in this position. This involves long breathes and stretching of the stomach.

My Pericarditis flares up when I exercise

There's this thing I have called chronic pericarditis where randomly my sac around my heart gets inflamed and causes extreme pain, fatigue and can't breathyness and fluid builds up around my heart and stuff.

Basically I've been trying to get into an exercise routine but it's hard to get any results cause I keep having to take breaks cause my pericarditis flares up.

Now before you actually google what pericarditis and tell me that exercise can't cause a flare up, do you have any oddball suggestions on easing into exercise? Or inflammation decreasing tips? Thank you so much! I've been on the paleo diet for a year and continuing and my diet has greatly improves my health but I know I can get so much better if I can rehabilitate my body to exercise without getting inflammation flare ups.

Newbie struggling to loose weight after quitting smoking

Hi there everyone!

I sure hope i am posting in the right place!

Well im 32 and and finally ditched the filthy habit of smoking about 7 months ago and must say have never felt better since!

My only problem now is the weight!

I read before quitting that weight gain can be an issue so i started doing some light exercises before quitting still however picked up about 6kg, which granted doesnt sound much but im a real shorty so 6kg shows badly. Nothing fits anymore.

I dont know what i am doing wrong because:

1) i jog 5km about 4 to 5 times a week at quite a medium pace

2) i do additional 20min loose workouts at home about 3 times a week

3) i am not following a set eating plan, but i have cut down on my eating and when i snack it generally is on fruit or nuts.

Still i have not lost 1kg or 1 cm in the two months i have been exercising at the above mentioned pace. Its actually becoming very depressing and demotivating!

When i spoke to my dr her solution was to prescribe me duromine (and i only weigh 60kg) and after reading up on the dangers of the drug i decided against it but after all this its starting to feel like the only way out of this!

Is there anyone that has had this problem and could advise me?

natural and healthy way to loose weight

it's so nice to see how everybody is achieving their goals - and so quickly! good job! personally i was struggling with all the diets and exercises, asked for a bunch of advices and it didn't worked for me at all.. i have no health issues so maybe its in my genetics..so i tried a free trial of a product my friend suggested for me. Before that i haven't believed in all the diet pills and products like that but when i lost 10kg in 3 months in a healthy extract way i understood that its possible ! i know that you can't promote anything here, and I'm not promoting, I'm just sharing my experience:) but if you have any questions - feel free to contact me via my email - sonyalowell@gmail.com

3 Step Procedure to Mental Conditioning

“The world meets nobody halfway, if you want it you gotta take it.”This memorable quote from a Sylvester Stallone movie is still etched in my memory bank. What is the meaning behind this quote? It simply means that on the off chance that we need to succeed in anything in this world we have to do the things that have the effect to whether we succeed or not on account of there are no amidst measures for the champs. The greatest deterrent we confront in arriving at our objectives is ourselves. As people we all experience the ill effects of some manifestation of mental broken molding yet the understanding and controlling of our mental molding will be basic to our prosperity. read more

traditional gym fitness program or outdoor fitness training program?

Friends are great! Friend are awesome. Greeting to all the of my friends from Weight Loss Forum.

I have a question for you all. Which type of fitness program would you like to prefer the traditional gym fitness program or outdoor fitness training program?

Muscle training in the morning?

So, I usually exercise at night by doing some weights and then taking a run.

I wanted to start running in the morning shortly after I wake up and I didn't want to cut out any weights.

Would it be okay for me to lift weights in the morning on an empty stomach after my run?

I asked a couple of people and they tell me it probably isn't too good but they weren't sure.

Last bit of belly fat

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this one. I've been doing exercise and counting calories for about 4 months and lost about 10kg. Now my problem is the puff of fat under the navel is not going away.

I'm currently doing more cardio than strength training every week, not sure if I should keep doing this or I need to do more strength training?

My height is 172cm and current weight is 63.5kg.

thanks guys

Hi all

Hi All,

I'm here, nice to meet you all.

Am I doing this right?

Hello Everyone! I've lost about 20 pounds (started at 160) so far, though I'm not sure how. Anyway, I'm now down to 141-142 and I seem to be stuck. In the mornings I do the elliptical for 25 minutes and according to the machine burn around 400 calories. Afterwards I eat breakfast and then go for a two mile walk or ride a bike for two miles. I eat pretty much all the time but low calorie foods and low fat foods, but I still seem to be stuck around 141. What am I doing wrong?

Vickys starting fresh!

At the time of writing this, I'm already 3 weeks and 6 days in and 3lbs down. Weighing myself weekly (so we will see what tomorrow brings!) gym membership is on course for happening this week and I've just secured myself a job after being a month and a bit unemployed. So the motivation is there. The small but important losses I've had so far help. I'm not wanting immediate loss, cause I think this way I'll keep it off and it'll become more or a way of life! For this reason I don't have a set time goal as such, since in the past it's disheartened me when I've crashed out early.

For this and other reasons, I won't be keeping a food or exercise diary, but what I will do is post my weight weekly and my feelings about the week and maybe some things about whether I've stayed on track, or deviated a little. At present I don't have too many tips, however one thing that has changed so far this week is the amount of walking that has been done (around 11 miles in 3 days) hopefully will pay off!

Feel free to post comments and I'll do my best to return the favour and throw my motivation at you along the way!

Health Advantages of Moringa

What is Moringa?

The Moringa Oleifera is often known as miracle tree because of its unique wide nutritional, cleansing, and medicinal properties. It is also referred to as a superfood treasure due to its incredible potential that can tremendously improve one’s health and eliminate hunger among people around the globe. It has high protein amounts - all 8 essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins, phytonutrients, and antioxidants that the body requires.

5 Health Advantages of Moringa

There are plenty of health advantages that moringa can provide the body with. Below are 5 benefits that it has:

Boosts Body’s Vitality

Using the leaves of the moringa, it will be possible to naturally increase your energy. It is also an excellent source of nutrition. This energy boosting benefit doesn't happen because of sugar, but because it can last for a long period of time. Individuals who have long been using it testify that their ulcers were healed and their tumors were restricted. There were also significant reduction in the pains brought by arthritis and inflammations.

Packed with Antioxidants

Based on some studies, the moringa tree’s powdered leaves contain a minimum of 46 kinds of antioxidants. In reality, one serving of it has 22% of the recommended daily consumption of vitamin C, which is known as one of the most important antioxidants. It also has 272% of the body’s recommended daily consumption of vitamin A. It is known that antioxidants help in neutralizing the free radicals’ devastating effects, thus helps in shielding the body from cancer and other degenerative illnesses like cystic fibrosis and macular degenerative disease.

Complete Amino Acids

An amount of moringa’s powdered leaves consists of 18 amino acids, where 8 of them are considered as essential amino acids. This makes them a complete protein, which is rare among plants. Protein is extremely important in building muscles, bones, skin, blood, and cartilage. Additionally it is needed when producing hormones and enzymes.

Full of Calcium and Magnesium

You are supplied with around 125% of your recommended daily intake of calcium and 61% of magnesium in just one serving of moringa leaves. Calcium and magnesium work in synergy - calcium is required in building strong bones and teeth, while magnesium assists in absorbing it. Since moringa is rich with these minerals, it can help your system to prevent osteoporosis and other bone diseases.

Healthy Oil

Although moringa leaves are known to be used in different health supplements, you can also get some benefits from its seeds. The seeds of moringa contain 40% of an edible and non-drying oil, the ben oil.The ben oil can be compared to an olive oil in terms of antioxidant and nutritional value.

I prefer Green-Fu. Its all natural with its Moringa and Organic Green Bean Coffee Extracts.

Plateau ... Need help

Hi, I'm currently 17 and in need of major help.

I'm about 69 kg (152 pounds) and only 5 foot 1.

In the past I've been doing fad diets which only work for the moment and as soon as you come off it you gain the weight. So now I've been trying to diet and exercise, I exercise everyday for about 30 minutes. it's been 3 weeks and I've not lost any weight what so ever but I haven't gained either. I eat much healthier than I have before and I never used to do exercise. I have no health problems either.

I don't know what to do to start losing weight. Any suggestions??

The longer I go on and don't lose weight the more motivation I lose :-(

Annoying scales - why do they do this?

Hi all,

Does anyone know how I can eat sensibly for ages and have the scales tell me I'm the same weight, then one day tell me I've lost a few pounds, then be back to the same weight the very next day?

It's so frustrating that I wait for ages to see results, to think I've got them, only for scales to say I'm back to square one the next day.

Latest Newbie - Hi there!

Hi guys,

Just registered and thought I'd stop by the newbie forum to say hi.

I'm a runner with maybe a stone to lose before my holiday in September. I'd like to actually be able to walk around in my bikini without needing to suck my tummy in the whole time.

Not currently on any special diet other than to cut out all the junk food I virtually live on and stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore, which is kinda hard, as I want to keep eating if it tastes good.

Anyway, hi to all

Holiday Pounds got to come off...

From the beggining of the year I have challenged myself to lose 10lbs at a time, and in all have lost 28lbs, but the last 8 pounds have been terribly had to shift. Having just come back from holiday and weighed myself I have put on 7lbs so now need to lose at least 14lbs :(

Anyone else feel depressed when they lose weight go away for a short period and find they have put a load on like that!!

Anyways, been back 2 days and now back on my programme with Project 10, aiming to lose 10lbs in the next 30 days and so far starting out really well. I am looking for partners to lose it with as it makes it easier, and it makes you accountable using a buddy. Anyone fancy teaming up?

My biggest struggle is exercise. If there is anyone with some really good exercises that will not only get a lazy metabolism going, but also shape me up, I would be eternally grateful.

well that is it for now. Hope someone can help....

Losing weight when injured.

So turns out I was back into my workout routine after sometime. I wanted tyo lose weight again, working out, treadmill, better eating etc.

I was going good, but then piling wood one day hurt my lower back which put me out for awhile. So I had to rely on eating better. That was all good and fine but I was at a standstill. I didn't want to eat even more lettuce lol

So I did my research online, spoke to a couple people and was introduced to Skinny Fiber. Now I am not a "diet pill" taker by any means, but doing my research found this was an all natural way to lose weight. I started taking it and within a week I had lost 7 lbs. I was amazed. It didn't take me long to get back into my routine because Chrioprator fixed me up so now I am taking the product and working out.

I just wanted to let people know this because it was amazing to me that this owrked that well. The great thing is I also take iron pills because my iron is low, and to offset this the Skinny Fiber helps with that as well, for those that have taken iron pills know what it does to you.

I am glad I did start taking this, and I did my research. Now I have been supplying others with this info and they have been doing quite well on it as well.

If you need any info, drop me a message.

Motivation to get back on track

Hi everyone, my name is Rachel and im 29 years old and I have 3 kids. I was never heavy growing up and didnt start gaining a lot of weight until i met my husband about 10 years ago. I got up to 188 lbs and then lost 20....about 8 years ago. I since, between my 2 oldest kids, remained about 163 lbs. After my son was born 2 years ago i got on a health kick, i went down to 126 lbs...worked out or ran every day and was an inspiration to many people. I even held weight loss challenges for my friends. Then i dont know what happened. Ever since the end of last summer, i slowly started becoming obssessed with food and the scale has just been going up and up. I weighed myself this morning at 158 lbs. I looked at pictures of myself from my sons birthday party we had yesterday and am mortified....but because im so upset with the way ive let myself get....ive just been eating more. I want to become the person I was....i hope this forum can get my head out of the chip bag and back into being healthy again. Thanks

Mad Madge stops munchin' bad things

Well, here goes. I am starting to pay the price of my life style in the 1960's. Platform shoes and PVC boots may have been the fashion back then but poor old Madge is in sensible shoes now and high heels are just a memory. My hips, knees and ankles are getting painful and I have to sit on the side of the bed in the mornings and wait to find out which joint is going to protest the most.

I love to cook, so will adapt as many recipes as I can to low fat, low carb low sugar. I need to lose at least 4 stones but don't want it to drop off me too quickly. I've done that in the past when I was young and yes, it was a smashing feeling but now I am 64 I think it would be sensible to take it off a bit at a time, exercise more and generally get myself all round healthier. I'd love to buy a bike, but it is early days yet and if I got on one now I'd have to be lifted off because I had seized up. But it is my goal to be riding one this time next year

Healthy Weight Loss

So many people nowadays are becoming desperate in order to lose weight. They are starting to go to unhealthy lengths in order to look skinny, because they think that it is attractive. However, losing weight in an unhealthy way could certainly be very damaging to your body, and you might not turn out so attractive if you are bony. You probably hear commercials and ads all over the place trying to sell you the newest diet or the newest weight loss operation, and you should ignore these red flags. Instead, you should take the healthy and natural path towards weight loss, one step at a time.

Things to Watch Out For

As mentioned above, new weight loss procedures are being thrown at the public very frequently. However, not a lot of people really know about the health risks of these procedures. Liposuction, a procedure where doctors literally use a vacuum-like contraption to suck the fat out of your body (usually from the stomach area), can be deadly. It also sounds very gruesome, and I assume after reading a more in-depth description of it, you will agree with me. Another weight loss procedure is the Lap-Band procedure. This is where doctors place a band around your stomach, so that you feel fuller sooner and eat less, which eventually leads to weight loss. This is practically like starving yourself, since you aren't actually full and you aren't actually getting all of the nutrients that your body requires to function. The band has also killed a few people, since it has been broken before. Imagine having an unnatural band wrap around your stomach! It makes me tighten up, and I don't know how other people can stand the thought of it, much less the actual procedure. Also, if you eat too much with the lap-band, you could end up throwing up, which is unhealthy as well.

Starving yourself on a diet is another weight loss strategy to watch out for. Starvation is a very serious health condition if you let it go too far. You're losing all of the nutrients that your body needs in order to function, and eventually your body will shut down due to lack of energy. Your body will not target your fat first, but instead will consume your muscles. You will lose all of your muscle mass before you lose any fat, and having nearly no muscle makes life very hard to manage. Starving yourself and denying your body the proper nutrients is never the way to go.

The Steps You Can Take

Healthy weight loss is accomplished through healthy eating and exercise. I know you have been told this time and time again, but it is the truth. This is the only way that you can lose weight in a healthy manner. Plus, if you exercise, your body will be in shape, and will look more attractive than the body of someone who is anorexic. Eating healthy and exercising will make your body feel better, and you will have more energy throughout the day.

Find Out How to Lose Weight Successfully

thumbnailFind Out How to Lose Weight Successfully

How to lose weight successfully

nearly everybody wants to lose weight to get the body they desire. However, often people don't know how to do this correctly without hurting their body. Before you start a crazy diet, get a life-threatening surgery or start taking magic weight loss pills you must read this article. Take the time to read how to effectively and safely lose weight prior to starting a dieting program.

Tip 1: Exercise 3 times a week

Try to utilize weights in your workout and do some ab workouts daily. The great thing about lifting weights is that it will assist you in losing weight while building muscle at the same time. You will be on your way to getting the 6 pack you crave if you can exercise as much as possible.

Tip 2: Stay Hydrated with water

You can fool your body into believing that it is full by drinking lots of H2O. Drink water as much as possible, it will aid your body work efficiently and it contains zero calories. It's comical but some people can confuse their hunger pangs while they are actually thirsty. These individuals need to stay hydrated to prevent any mix-ups from occurring.

Tip 3: Don't purchase pills

Companies have somehow succeeded in making people believe that their issues may be cured with special pills. Some of them do can work at first but the problem is once you stop taking the pills the weight typically comes back.

Depicted below are some tips that will assist you in losing weight safely:

Tip 4: Look closely at labels

If you elect to attempt eating different foods then you should look carefully at the label before leaving a shop with the item. Some segments of the label that you should focus on is the ingredients and the Calories section.

Tip 5: Eat Small Portion Sizes

Most individuals don't realize it but the amount and proportion they eat for lunch is too large. The regular American eats twice as much as their body requires everyday. Even when these persons are full they still push themselves to finish their whole plate. Instead of eating a huge meal 3 times a day, which will take a long time to digest, eat tiny meals. This will speed up your metabolism and help you in safely dropping weight faster.

New and keen as mustard

Hope it lasts

Hello everyone, Madge here.

I am in my 60’s and want to get into my 70’s so its time I shifted the flab. It’s no good me trying to crash diet, I’ve tried that, been good as gold and then munched my way through the fridge in the early hours of the morning. So I’m looking at slow but sure, just a couple of pounds a week. Mind you, it will be a long old job.

Hope to make friends on here and get support.

Hi all, I'm new.

Hey guys,

This may end up being a bit long winded, so you can totally be forgiven for not reading the whole thing. Either way since this has sort of been a sensitive topic for me it feels good to get it all out there.

My name is Doug and I've been seriously overweight for about 10 years now. For the first half of my life, my weight yo-yo'd back and forth until I finally ended up where I am now. I don't remember this and there aren't many pictures but apparently I was pretty heavy at about age 4 (for a four year old anyway), then I became very skinny until about age 8 when it all came right back on. I spent the next few years that way until around 12, when suddenly I remember my friends parents and others commenting that I had lost a lot of weight. I didn't believe them, I figured they were all just trying to make me feel better about myself.

I spent the next 4-5 years in actually pretty decent shape, but at the time I somehow had no idea. I remember in 8th grade I was in a local play and my character's name was "Fat Sam". Of course to me, this made perfect sense. When a couple of my friends asked me "So how are you going to play a guy named Fat Sam? Are they going to have you wear a pillow under your shirt?" I was actually pretty irritated, thinking I was being patronized. It wasn't until around age 18-19 that I realized how much better off I had been before, because I had again, over the course of 6 months to a year, put on quite a bit of weight.

Since around 2005 I've made quite a few efforts to lose the weight, but I usually only last anywhere between 3-5 months before everything ends up going back to the way it was-and then getting worse. In the early spring of 2009, I started a plan that yielded the most success for me out of anything I've tried before, or since, and my failure at the end of that has made any subsequent attempts so much harder because I'm afraid that I won't be able to keep it up. In a period of about 5 months I lost a significant amount of weight (I don't remember exactly how much but it was to the point that people started to really notice unprompted. I was getting a LOT of comments.) And as it usually goes, I ended up dropping the ball and gaining all the weight back. This time I actually believed it was going to happen for me though, so the anger I felt towards myself was pretty severe. Since then, even when I'm doing really well, there is a constant voice in the back of my mind saying "this will not last." or "what makes this time different?". It can be pretty discouraging, because I have gotten close to success before, but I've never actually made it.

At this point in my life, I'm about 90 pounds overweight at nearly 260 pounds-the worst shape of my life. I'm only 5"8 so I should be somewhere around the 170-180 range. I guess I am hoping there are some of you a lot farther along than me who know what I'm going through, and have some advice for how to control my attitude.

The good news is, I've been working with a trainer as of the last six weeks, and have also been doing some workouts on my own and with my wife for the last week or so. I'm starting to drop some weight, and I REALLY want this time to be the last. I just turned 27, and would really like to get into the best shape I can before my youth is gone and I missed it completely.

Thanks for reading guys. It feels SO good to actually get this stuff out.

Time to start fresh

Hi everyone,

I am just starting over in here as I have been away from the forum for a very! long time. I am looking forward to people's opinions on what I post regarding my progress, stumbling blocks, successes and at times self sabotages. Yes I admit that there Are times when I need a swift kick in the ass, but I am really trying to work through all that. I am presently going to curves and I am also walking as much as I can. My husband has been very supportive and helps me out where he can .

I am presently 284 lbs...when I got married 3 years ago I was 317lbs... So I'm down a little but not as much as I'd like to be. At least I am heading in the right direction... Lol

Unorthodox Way to Lose Weight - Break Up

Pick one thing and break up with it. I broke up with chocolate. You can break up with peanut butter, Margaritas, pizza, or whatever food got you into this mess. Confide it in your best friend. Cry if you must, but do not go near the food. Think of how it did you wrong, how much it has hurt you. Talk badly about this food to your friends. If you see somebody else indulging in this food, give her the stink eye.

Hints For Simple Fat Loss

Hints For Simple Fat Loss

Losing fat shouldn’t be as hard as many people try to make it. People who are desperate to lose fat are often prone to take more risks (something that I try to help you avoid). The truth is that with some basic principles you can make some serious progress toward fat loss without any major effort. Often a client will come to me looking for some hints that will help them shed some weight quickly. I am always happy to tell them my “secret” tips that are always surprisingly effective. In fact, many people have found these tips to make an easy ten pound difference as they get started on a new program. You might thing that these suggestions are really hi-tech or mysterious, but in reality, they are basic principles that I’ve seen successful over and over again. Here they are.

1 Avoid “white” food. This includes white breads, pastas, many cereal products, and even cracker-type snacks. Think about some other white things too like flour, potato products, rice, and even processed milk and cheese products. Some white foods that are OK for you to eat are cauliflowers, fish, and chicken.

2 Ditch the sodas and other drinks that have calories, sugar, or even artificial sweeteners. I don’t want you to drink much coffee either. Creamer? No. It’s white, isn’t it? I want you to take in at least half the weight of your body in ounces of water. This means that if you weigh 250 pounds, you should be consuming 125 ounces of water every day. This will be essential for getting the fat loss process in gear.

3 I’ve already taken you off white products, now you need to do away with wheat products. I don’t care if the package says “whole wheat” on it or not: it has to go. Check the ingredients of everything you’re eating and if it has wheat in it, don’t eat it.

These three rules are pretty easy to follow, aren’t they? Sure, you’ll have to adjust your habits a little bit, but it really won’t be very hard once you get started. If you consistently adhere to these hints, you will be surprised at the progress you make in just a couple weeks.

Am I eating enough carbs?

I have been losing weight since December last year. When I started trying, I was almost 90kg. Now, I weigh 66kg. I am a 16 year old boy, turning 17 in October. I am at a stage where I have almost achieved all my goals and will hopefully within the next few months be ready to cease trying to lose weight. Recently, because I've been battling to lose more, I've brought in a new diet. When I reach my goal, I want to bring in more carbs (not excessive amounts), ofcourse without gaining weight again. Here is my current weight loss plan:

Breakfast: Banana, egg(usually boiled) on low GI seeded bread (sometimes a small amount of butter)

Morning snack: Naartjie, sometimes an orange or occasionally about a quarter of a papaya

Lunch: 2 slices of cheddar cheese, lettuce, two slices of tomato and two slices of cucumber on a low GI seeded bread sandwich, sometimes chopped up raw carrot

Afternoon snack: Glass of fat free milk with an apple

*Then I run for about 40 minutes. I have a loop of about 2,5 kilometers. I run this twice, always trying to improve my time - I focus on intensity more than distance. Then I sprint my road (like 200m maybe, not sure, quite steepish) about 8 times, with pauses between ofcourse.*

Dinner: This ranges a lot. I try to eat vegetables as much as possible, being mainly carrots, peas, brocolli and spinach. Meals range from roast chicken, to pork chops, to sausages, to chicken pie, to pretty much anything that is within a pretty healthy range. Sunday nights I have a homemade pizza which I will never give up. Recent changes in supper, have just been trying to eat potato less, because it is the only carb I can really take out without ruining the meal. So I may often try reduce carbs in supper.

The main point here, is am I getting enough calories? And will I be able to tweak this diet a bit without gaining weight?

Also note that I do not usually starve myself. The egg in the morning helps keep me full.

Thanks

Does tea work for Weight loss?

I want to know is tea that is used for weight loss works along with dieting?

Where are all the challenges??

I agreed with another person who posted that they do better, stay more motivated, and lose more, when they get the support of others especially in a challenge and getting support from others. I noticed that there aren't as many challenges being posted here.......??

Quick Weight Loss

When we decide to lose weight we want to see results fast. There are some diets for quick weight loss that produce short term results. The problems with rapid weight loss is the results can be short lived. However there are ways to lose weight fast and keep it of. It's important to know the healthy ways to lose weight fast.

Short Term Diets That Give Results

It is important that whenever you are looking into a diet you know it's potential for good and bad. Here are some fast weight loss methods.

3 Day Diet: This diet is designed for short term use. It has an individual losing their water weight by following a very specific diet plan. The plan is designed to have exceptional metabolic reactions between the foods that it requires. This is a restrictive diet that is designed to boost fat burning.

Cabbage Soup Diet: This diet has been around for years, and in many different forms. It is a very restrictive diet which has survived over time. The cabbage diet lists what you can eat each day of the week. Since cabbage soup being the main menu choice, this diet can get old quickly. So do it one week at a time. It offers very short term results.

Grapefruit Diet: This diet has been around since the 1930s and is still going strong. This fast weight loss method is meant to be used for 12 days. This diet is very restrictive, if food isn't allotted in the diet it isn't allowed at all. This is a diet that said to help you lose weight through the ingestion of the unsweetened grapefruit juice. The truth is that you reduced calorie intake and this will encourage weight loss. There isn't a specific reason the grapefruit works other than it is a extremely nutritious and a low-calorie fruit.

Negative Calorie Diet: The negative calorie diet allows you to consume as much as you wish of certain foods. Those foods are negative calorie foods. They gain this name because it takes more calories to chew and process these foods than are in the foods. This is used as a diet for quick weight loss, as it doesn't balance foods correctly.

Long Term Tricks to Weight Loss

There are some fast weight loss methods that can hold you for long term weight loss. These are diets that start off with fast results and long term ability to keep off weight.

Low carb diet: This diet restricts you to only eating lean protein in the first stage. This forces the body into a ketosis stage that allows the body fat to burn rather than the ingested carbohydrates. It needs careful planning however as eating only protein can play havoc on your digestive system. Some form of fiber is essential. This helps you feel full as well as continue to encourage healthy bowels.

Don't Skip Meals: It is important you don't skip meals. It might even be a good idea to increase the number of meals we eat. This doesn't mean to add in full meals more times in the day, but to reduce all meal sizes allowing the ability to snack through the day. Every time we eat we wake up our bodies. We begin to digest food, causing us to lose calories. It is important to remember to never skip breakfast. This is one important meal; it has been shown that a person eats more calories in a day when one doesn't eat breakfast.

Exercise and Strength Training: This is something that most diets will encourage. Exercise alone will not make you lose weight, however in conjunction with healthy eating it can do more than one might think. To increase muscle tone can increase the calories that you will use on an average basis. The suggestion is that 10 pounds of muscle can burn 30 more calories than 10 pounds of fat per day. That being said the more vigorous exercising you do the more calories you burn and the more weight you lose. However it can be as simple as taking a brisk walk every day.

There are many things that people do over the years to lose weight, however only a portion of them are meant for the long term weight loss. No matter what you decide on for weight loss; remember to talk to your doctor or nationalist regarding your weight loss plan. Know which ones are meant for short term, which is meant for a longer term. Find something that you are capable of doing with little regrets. These are the diets for quick weight loss, because giving up will never work.

Weight lost 26 lbs, inches lost: 5" on waist, 4" on hips.

Venus was a completely new approach to me. I never tried anything like it, the workouts were challenging and the diet simple, completely contrary to what I did in the past.

This is the first time I realized that losing fat and getting in shape is not complicated, in fact it’s pretty simple stuff.

I didn’t even go to the gym; I was just working out at home.

And I didn’t even have to restrict myself at social events, pretty much no one knew what I was doing.

It was really the easiest thing I have ever done.

The First Day of The Rest of My Life

Cliche, right?

This is it. I am committed to it. I am going to lose weight. I am going to feel better about myself, and figure things out.

This post, it is the beginning. A scary beginning, as change terrifies me. I'm going to do it.

Now, I'm a 30 year old rabbit farmer living in Ontario, Canada. I sling 55lb bags of feed and 40lb bales of hay like they are nothing. I spend a great deal of time cleaning poop, moving rabbits around, and doing the hard work... But my problem comes when it's time to do the record keeping - filling out pedigrees, paperwork, maintaining websites, creating breeding schedules, etc... I sit at the computer usually with candy or snacks, for an hour or more a day working on the boring part.

I also work 2 days a week at the local Farmers' Market.

So, at this point, my base plan.

1. Add more walking. Though I am relatively active, I've fallen out of the habit of a regular daily walk for my dog and myself. This is actually something that I miss, as it was more a time thing that ended the routine. I intend to make time for the walk - later in the evening, when it is not so hot/sunny. Thinking 45min-1hr.

2. More fruits/veg for snacking. Fruits and veg don't last long around here, and that's not because it is going into me! My rabbits love it, so I buy a fair bit but never save it for myself. I end up snacking on chocolate bars, chips, gummies, etc, etc, etc. I work 2 days at the local farmers' market, for goodness sake! I should have tons of fruit/veg here for eating, since it is readily available to me at low cost, organic and locally grown. I have no excuse.

3. More water, less pop. I've been pretty good about this lately, substituting water for pop, but I still have a tendency to not only indulge, but overindulge. A can of pop once a week or so isn't going to kill me, but 2 or 3 a day probably will.

4. Make time for meals. I have a horrible habit of skipping meals and not eating anything until later in the evening. Daylight hours are busy for me, and I don't generally make the time to eat breakfast or lunch - it's quick snacks, usually high sugar or ready-made meals(eg. tv dinners). I'm going to try and get into an eating schedule, which involves healthy foods that I can hopefully pre-make and turn into my own ready-made meals(like making a big pot of oatmeal and freezing it into smaller, pop-into-the-microwave portions).

5. Stop with all the crap! I have a drawer in my computer desk. It is devoted to junk food. Full of junk! It's so easy just to reach in and pull something out instead of finding a suitable meal or snack. I feel this contributes the most to my weight issue, and is something that immediately needs rectified.

6. But not stop the crap completely. Previously I have tried to completely cut junk out of my diet, and end up binging when I get depressed or upset about something. If I allow myself crap food in moderation, I am less likely to binge and more likely to keep up with the diet/weight loss program.

7. Regular hours of operation. I tend to sleep when I want, for however long I want, and to heck with the consequences! I need to set a bedtime and maintain it, set a wake up time and maintain it. This is something that comes and goes, dependent on my state of mind, sometimes I'm very good about it, and others... Well, let's just say there are periods in my life where I don't get out of bed until 2 in the afternoon.

8. Stop being so hard on myself. I have a tendency to slip once, and then throw the whole plan out the window, because I'm ashamed or upset, and decide "what's the point?" The point is, I want to be around to see great nieces and nephews. I want to be able to love myself, to join in a game of tag, to not worry that I will try to do something physical and end up having a heart attack! I don't want my mother worried that I am going to die before her. I need to remember this, dust myself off and get back on that horse when I take a little tumble.

I'm sure there's more, there's always more. I'm hopeful to come back and add more points, find more things that work and go from there.

Like an alcoholic, I am going to take this one day at a time.

New Here With A Lot To Lose

Alright, here's a bit about me.

30 year old female with PCOS, have been overweight all my life. Have been trying to not be overweight for half my life(if not more). Get discouraged often, or off track, or overindulge and wonder what the point is anymore. Hoping that joining a forum might help me stay on track this time.

Really wanting to get this whole weight thing under control. Was upset when I pulled out my summer clothes and found that most did not fit. Went through a recent bout of depression that had me sleeping 16+hrs a day and stuffing my face for the other 8hrs.

Went out shopping at a thrift store today, and bought some pants in a size up from what I was wearing last summer, to replace the clothes that no longer fit. These do not fit me either. I had a little cry, and then went online to see what would be best to help reduce my fat and increase my happiness.

I'm never going to be a skinny-mini, I know that. I simply do not have the build for it. I would, however, like to eliminate some of this bulk that is slowly adding up.

Hopeful that this place will be welcoming and kind - I do not do well with mean people, and am easily discouraged. I'm going to admit, if this forum is too mean to people, I will simply bow out and stop coming here.

Anyway, that's about it. Here's hoping that this time might actually be the right time and I'll finally shed some pounds and start feeling better about myself.
