Personal rant turned into Self Cooping Story.

So I started writing this with the anticipation I would save it to a folder on my computer and never see it again. I have decided to post it to the Forum instead.

I apologize now for any grammar mistakes as I realize that as a rant turned into a self cooping story it is probably full of mistakes. Thanks for reading it, if you do.

Weight Loss Journal

Every day i look into the mirror wondering what i have done to myself.

The anxiety, the doubt, the feeling of never being good enough. I just can not seem

to face myself anymore. I have all these different things going for me in my life and yet

i still just want to run away from them all. I really need to look myself in the mirror and

tell myself that I can do this. I have being on this diet for 5 days now. I havent had a monster

or a soda in 5 days. The headaches are starting to hit me and I constantly feel sick but I need to do this

I can not imagine not being able to play with my son because i am to fat or to tired. Even more so, every time

something happens in my family I have to be the tough one. I have to be the one everyone leans to and when i Show

emotion people get mad at me because I havent kept myself together. This may just seem like a lot of rambling but

I have to get it out as part of learning to deal with everything. I work in EMS and I have seen more death that I

have ever thought I would have. Every time I sit there thumping on someone chests I look into their eyes in which I

do not know if they see me or they see nothing. I think about their family, their wife/husband, children, etc..

In March of 2010 I was 190-200 pounds in the best shape of my life everything seem to be going right and then I hurt

my shoulder and had to have surgery. By the time I was done with the recovery from the surgery I was up to 220 pounds

but again I was able to start working out and dropped back to 210. I stayed strong at 210 for awhile till July 2012,

I had gone of for Military Training for a month. Four days into the training my exgf of over 2 years sent me a text

saying that she was leaving me and that she will have all her stuff moved out of the apartment. I could not believe

what had happened and instantly went into a deep depression but of course I could not tell anyone because I had to be strong.

I got home at the end of July to find my clothes thrown into a pile on the floor and nothing left in my apartment. She had

even took my hamster. I had to move back into my father's house who I have not had a good relationship with in well over 3 years.

I was driving 55 minutes to a job barely making the money to cover the cost of gas. I was living in a cloud, barely able to wake

up in the morning and barely able to make it through work without just walking out. I was doing things I did not approve of

just because I wanted to feel close to someone but it just felt meaningless and mindless. That when I started talking to this woman

at my work, she was not the most gorgeous woman in the world or so all those magazines would say, but she had a smile that melted

my heart but every time I tried to talk to her she would run away. I did not give up though because I wanted to get to know her, but

of course there were complications. In September I lost my grandfather and my cousin within two weeks of each other and again I was

pushed even father into depression. I could not control myself anymore I ate constantly, whether it was fast food or whatever, I

just could not stop. In October of 2012 I was up to 260 and I did not even care. I did not care about myself, I did not care about others,

I had thoughts that I had never had before which made ever day hard to breath till October 14. I had gone up to Maine for a family gathering

for the first time in 4 years. I was happy to see everyone but it was still hard because everyone kept asking me about my cousin and grandfather.

I did not want to talk about it but was forced to. I had been talking even more to the woman I worked with which made stuff slightly better

but it did not help completely. That morning I got a text from her saying that she had just gotten into a fight with family and she needed to get

away so not thinking I invited her to Maine and in a single moment my whole life turned upside down for the better. She drove up that day, we spent the

weekend up all night, walking the beach, staring at stars and laughing with my family. Everything was turning around and

I could not be any happier. We were always together giggling and laughing and I was finally feeling better, but like always something has to happen.

March 2013, My girlfriend(the one I worked with) and I went out to Las Vegas it was the most amazing experience ever. I enjoyed ever minute of it. We went

out to the desert, clubs and drove the strip was amazing. The third day there she woke up and told me she was not feeling very good. She kept making little

comments like her boobs hurt, her shirt was really tight and she was really nausea. When we got home she took a pregnancy test and now a whole new part of my life was starting. I was scared and excited at the same time, but I was going to be the best father/boyfriend i can. Unfortunately, her cravings started to kick in. Fast food, cookies, candies, ice cream and I could not just let her eat it alone right? November 6, 2013 My son was born. At the same time I was up to 275 pounds and I could not believe it. Working 6 12 hour shifts a week, not eating right, not working out it was all adding up. I had to keep getting new uniforms at work, people were constanly making fun of my weight, and I was constantly feeling like crap. Now that I am 24 years old I am 285 pounds. I have gained almost 100 pounds since I was 20. This is not ok, I will change this.

Currently I am on a 1000-1300 Calorie a Day Diet. I have gone a week so far on this and I am already feeling better.

I am only checking my weight at the end of each month. I am posting my story to this website for one of two reasons. First, this is tough but with support and hints/tips from the people on this site I hope that I can change my life for the better. Second, I needed to get this off my chest. I need to come to realization of what has happen. Learn from it and move on from it.

My Goal is to go from Size 44 pants to Size 32. I refuse to pick a weight or a BMI because one you get there you get comfortable and you start to gain weight again.

If you read all of this mess thank you. I know it could not have been easy as it was mostly a rant but it has helped me get stuff off my chest and feel even that much

better about myself. Thanks again.

I plan to write updates every 2-4 weeks.

calories vs quality. what matters?

*numbers in this post are hypothetical just for the sake of argument

** I am not an expert whatsoever

Hello all!

I just have a question that troubles me for years and I am curious if any experts and/ or knowledgeable people can help.

Are calories all that's important? For example, consuming everyday 1500 calories of macdonalds junk food will give me the same results in weight loss to consuming 1500 calories in fruits and vegetables?

Many people say yes, calories are calories. Others say that the quality of what you eat is more important. I mean I don't kbow anyone that is fat because he eats too many apples. Do you?

Very confused. Help!

So here my friends in this article I will further elaborate to you the benefits of this product but before that allow me to show you a testimony from a customer:

“Hi! My name is Melissa from Phoenix Arizona and months ago

I had a terrible problem with my body weight.

I was miserably fat for 5 years until I found this new found solution .

My friend told me about Natural Garcinia Cambogia.

I was hesitant at first because I was afraid of the possible side effects that it might give me

just like other weight loss products. I convinced myself to take it for a week.

Surprisingly, I lost 5 pounds in my first week and I had no diet and exercise or whatsoever!

I was still worried and a bit doubtful so I went to the doctor and had my vitals checked.

I was very happy to receive the news that I was okay.

After everything was cleared up, I continued using this supplement.

For two months, I lost 46 pounds!

It was amazing!

After three months, I was down to 130.

From 200 pounds now 130,

I was so happy

my husband was astounded and is now all over me.

Even my kids couldn’t believe their eyes.

I compared myself from the picture of what I used be

to who or what I look now.

Simply, unbelievable.”

Based from the testimony given it would leave the readers asking, “How did this happen?!”

As I said in my introduction, Garcinia Cambogia Extract contains a special ingredient called HCA (Hydroxicitric Acid) which makes this possible. It is extracted from the rind of a small pumpkin-shaped fruit which is more widely known as a tamarind in many areas.

Now what are the effects of this ingredient towards our body?

●Helps Regulate Metabolism

●Makes the user’s choice towards food healthier

●Rich in Antioxidants

●Burns fat faster compared to diet and exercise

Hello and greetings from Germany

Hi everyone!

I am an aspiring personal weight loss coach hoping to share my experiences with others who are having to deal with the same problems I had and luckily managed to overcome.

Having been overweight for the majority of my life (I’m now 25), I struggled with half-hearted attempts at dieting and exercise for years, but have over the course of around 18 months managed to develop a sort of “approach” that allowed me to slowly but steadily lose weight so that I got down to 70kg from 95kg. During this time I benefited immensely from a large variety of online resources and am now making it my mission to give something back in the same way by sharing my weight loss approach that evolved through much trial and error (I’m currently working on a book and will hopefully find a way to work with clients in the future).

But whilst I have these futuristic plans to become a health professional, for now I’ll do my best to contribute to the forum by sharing my experiences and answering questions that I might have some knowledge about. I’d say my area of relative expertise is the psychology of weight loss, the mental structures that can mean success or failure, so that’s what I’ll hopefully be able to give some advice on.

Weight loss surgery: 'not everyone lives happily ever after'

The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery state that the number of weight loss surgeries in the US increased from 13,000 in 1998 to over 200,000 in 2008. Reasons for undergoing weight loss surgery can range from health needs to the desire for a confidence boost. But new research suggests that although the surgery may make people happy in some ways, it can also cause problems.

Karen Synne Groven, of the University of Oslo in Norway, interviewed 22 women aged between 24 and 54 years as a part of her doctoral thesis.

All women had undergone gastric bypass surgery - one of the most common bariatric surgery procedures. It involves rerouting a part of the small intestine past the stomach in order to reduce food intake, promote satiety and suppress hunger.

The majority of the women were interviewed twice. The first time was 1 year after surgery, while the second interview took place 2.5-4 years following surgery.

Groven says although most previous research suggests that weight loss surgery leads to an increase in quality of life for the majority of patients, her findings suggest that not everyone lives happily ever after following bariatric procedures.

Positive outcomes after surgery 'can feel like grief'

There is no doubt that weight loss surgery puts the body through a series of radical changes.

Groven says that although the procedure leads to a slimmer body - which others perceive as a "sign of success" - the surgery can cause many smaller problems that other people are unable to see.

a Groven explains:"Becoming slimmer and lighter is mostly perceived of as positive. At the same time it is ambivalent, since people start to behave differently towards the women after they've had surgery.

People are friendlier than before, and this may feel extremely provoking. And people often ask very invasive questions concerning the woman's radical weight loss."

The interviews revealed that some of the women experienced a boost in self-esteem after surgery, were more outspoken, and found other people were more likely to listen to what they were saying - particularly in the workplace.

Groven notes that although these factors are clearly positive outcomes, this could also be seen as a "grief" because the women realize they had to undergo weight loss surgery before seeing these outcomes.

Many of the women also felt embarrassment after the surgery, particularly when it came to speaking about their weight loss. Some women told others they had been on a diet to lose the weight because they were ashamed to say they had undergone bariatric surgery.

Excess skin promotes a negative self-image

Groven found that many of the women had mixed feelings about their naked body after surgery, and many of these feelings come from the occurrence of loose skin - a common consequence of rapid weight loss.

"It is given little focus before the operation. Patients are often told that this is something that can be fixed afterwards. But it is not so easily fixed, and the women are not prepared for the challenge of having to live with the loose skin," explains Groven.

Although women can undergo surgery to remove excess skin, Groven notes that many women are not prepared to take the risks associated with this procedure, which include hematoma or seroma formation, infection and risks associated with future pregnancies.

Groven found that some of the women interviewed even spoke about their excess skin in third person, which she believes is a way of distancing themselves from it.

Health problems and bad food relationships after weight loss surgery

According to Groven, five of the women interviewed reported a lower quality of life after they underwent weight loss surgery, compared with their quality of life before.

She notes that this was down to the development of chronic stomach and intestine problems, and one woman became so ill that she had to endure another operation because of problems with her scar tissue after the gastric bypass procedure.

The five women also said they felt as if they had complete lack of energy following weight loss surgery.

Furthermore, Groven found that many of the women reported having a negative relationship with food after the procedure.

Some women were worried about eating too much or too little, or eating the wrong food at the wrong time. Because of these concerns, some women experienced tiredness, nausea, dizziness and even intense shaking.

Some of the women who had problems with overeating before weight loss surgery continued to overeat after surgery, even though this made them ill. Groven says some women commented that "the eating disorder is not gone."

Groven says that while previous research suggests that patients can avoid testing their eating limits after surgery by following dietary advice, the reality is much more complicated.

She adds:

"It is reasonable to ask, I think, whether the eating disorders that some of the women develop after surgery are diseases, or if they may be understood as normal changes as a result of the operation."

No regrets

Although many women reported negative thoughts and health issues after weight loss surgery, none of them said they regret undergoing the procedure.

"They say they would have done the same today and that they had no choice considering their life before surgery. Some said that the pains were a small price to pay," says Groven.

She adds that this suggests women are influenced by society's perception of the ideal female body, and that being obese is not within this scope.

"They are living with a body which is not accepted by society, and they are constantly judged from their size," she says.

"The message from the media and medical science is that they are likely to get cancer or diabetes unless they lose weight and the surrounding world regards their obesity as self-inflicted. Some have children and are afraid to die and leave them alone."

Groven concludes that although it is true that obesity can lead to health complications, such as diabetes and heart attack, little is known about the long-term effects of weight loss surgery and what complications may arise from this procedure.

Who Benefits from Liposuction

Many people, especially those heading toward middle-age, benefit from liposuction treatments that help to rid the body of excess pockets of fat that accumulate around the hips, abdomen, arms and buttocks. Rather than being used as a weight control or fitness method, liposuction addresses genetic traits toward excess fat deposits, and is often combined with other plastic surgery techniques such as a tummy tuck, breast reduction, or facelift procedures.

Patients considering liposuction should be aware that it is not considered a treatment for obesity or as a replacement for nutritious diets and adequate exercise. Liposuction will not remove cellulite or saggy skin. For optimal success of liposuction procedures, the best candidates are healthy men and women who are in generally good physical condition, and especially those within 30% of their ideal weight. Individuals who suffer from medical conditions or life-threatening illnesses are not good candidates for this procedure.

5 months in...

Hi all

well i am new to this forum- so hello to all who have taken the time to look at my diary.

I started my weight loss journey in September 2013 at 263 pounds (18 stone 13 lbs) and as of today I weigh 206 lbs (14 stone 10 lbs). I am a bit scared because in all my years of dieting and exercising i have never been able to get under 200 lbs . I am now 7lbs away from this and i need a serious amount of support to push me through this.. its like a wall thats always been up that i never seemed to be able to get past.

If i could reach this goal before my nieces communion on April 8th I would be ecstatic:)

So I have 5 weeks to lose 7 pounds!! I pray I do not plateau

Thanks for taking the time to have a peek at my diary

:)

Oh well hello there

Hi there! My name is Candace. Im just here for more support and just want to help be there for some people. Im Hoping that we all can just share ideas and support one another. If you would like to know more info about me Visit my diary or just ask away.:dupe:

Its about time

Frist off I wanna Introduce myself. My name is Candace, I am 23 and I live in Denver Colorado. In 2007 I lost about 20 lbs. I was at 190 and dropped down to 170. That is the lowest I have been in a very long time. On January 14,2014 I weighed 229lbs, My roommate and I deceided that we needed a change in our lifestyles for the better. (shes around 300lbs) on January 14th we started Phase I of the south beach diet. Basically just cut out all carbs for the first 2 weeks. We did very well, only thing we cheated on was drink wine. We love our wine. Haha. We also started to work out at the local fitness center within our complex. I got tired of the fitness center because it was super small so I decieded to get a subscription to Planet Fitness. (Which was a fantastic idea because they have more equipment for us to use and of course free tanning haha) So far my current weight is 211lbs. I think that I am doing a great job especially at eating right and keeping off the weight. MY big thing now is going to be to work out more. I know I need more exercise to really keep this going. The other day I was looking on pintrest and I saw that this lady lost 20 lbs for doing just cardio for a month and ive been thinking about doing that. One hour of cardio, 15 minutes jogging 15 minutes elpitical and 30 minutes on the bike.. What do yall think?:D

several effective weight loss tips

• Sacrifice the old food habit or lifestyle. A person must have the desire for losing the weight. Self- realization and motivation is needed.

• In many cases, a person fails to perform in many works and blame him that he may not perfect; he cannot do this work. In this weight loss program, never give up the goal.

• Control the emotion of having food with the influence of others. You may meet with friend circle and take coffee, eat junk food at dinner. Try to reduce your meeting with them.

• Proper planning is necessary for this program. How will you control your weight and which amount of weight you want to reduce decide before the program.

• A timetable has to follow for exercise, household work and taking food. This will help you to lead a disciplined life.

• You have to remember that you are reducing weight but your body needs calories to perform work. So select such types of food, which contains nutrients and calories without an excess amount of cholesterol. Such as fruits, vegetables, healthy meats, grains, cereals, spice etc. some fruits and vegetables cut fat in our body. In example, guava, garlic etc.

• Avoid taking fast food and start taking homemade food.

• Start physical and mental exercises like yoga, meditation. Deep breathing is also helpful and drinks more water.

• You can use some Ayurveda treatment to reduce the weight.

• Mix up single spoon of honey in hot water on glass and drink daily in the morning. It will help you to reduce the fatty sell.

Here I am

Hello, I am a newbie in this forum.

To gather health related knowledge and to join the discussion, i have come this forum.

Cheers!

Just registered, new to site and weight lioss :)

Hello everyone! My name is Sanja, I am 25 years old, I am 5`4 tall and I weight 169 pounds :ack2: This is actually my first day of commitment and I joined this forum in order to get moral support, encouragement and of course, tips and guidelines which will help me to maximize my weight loss. I bought a sweet little notebook which I plan for it to be my weight loss diary. I know there are online apps and websites, but I prefer pen and paper for my diary :)

Little background: I was not always overweight. 2 years ago, I weighted 116 pounds. But since then, I have gained around 50 pounds. And the funny thing is, it was not gradual at all. I was depressed, so I was eating a lot of junk food, I didnt even had meals, I just had loads of junk food next to me, bags of chips, chocolate, sweets... And only in a month, I gained 24 pounds! I was very surprised because it took so little time, but I didnt cared at all, I just continued to eat. That was the summer of 2012. I was at the same weight for around six or seven months, and then in January 2013 I gained 11 pounds in 3 weeks! Again, very surprised, and again, didnt care at all. It was in March when I started taking steps to lose weight. The depression was still there, but I was determined to take steps in improving my overall psychological condition, as well as my physical appearance. It took me 2 months to lose 15 pounds. I was eating healthy and I was walking. It is then when I discovered that I had anemia. And no, it was not because of my new diet, but because of my former diet probably. And the symptom that discovered my anemia was surprising too. I wanted to start running, and when I tried, I couldnt even run 3 minutes without gasping and fighting for my breath. It was my first try, and not only I couldnt breathe at all, but also my heart was racing and pounding like crazy, and I felt pain and a really intense pressure, tightening in my chest. I was really scared, and I thought that it has something to do with my heart. My heart was alright, however, I had iron deficiency anemia, with my iron level been 3. The doctor explained to me that the incident with the running was caused by my anemia.

Anyway, I was recommended to start eat more meat (surprisingly, meat is rich in iron), spinach, broccoli etc. Since I am not a fan of meat(I dont like the taste, I am weird I know), I started dressing it with a lot of sauces, I was eating it with bread, potatoes, french fries.. It was not long before my appetite for carbs opened up again. It was excruciating, I was dreaming of eating sweets and junk food. So, I fell of the wagon again. In a month, not only I have gained those 15 pounds that took me 2 and a half months, but I also gained even more than before, gaining a total of 23 pounds this time. That was the end of summer 2013, and I was weighting 166 pounds then, more than I ever weighted before. Since then until now, I havent gained any real weight, I just fluctuate from 166 to 170. Today, I weighted 169. So, this is my starting point.

I hope I didnt bore you with my story :D

So I will start with restricting my diet and just walking at the beginning, and then gradually incorporate more exercise and cardio. I will have an hour long walks each day, and my daily intake of calories will be no more than 1200.

Thank you for reading my long confession, I hope that we can all help each other in getting the body that we want :D

Step by step toward my goal!

Hello!!

Here I am again! I was here some time ago and now I am back. If you are wondering, I am ashamed I left the forum back then... but I hope you forgive me.

I will keep things short.

I lost all in all 10 kilos in few months. Once I was back from our holiday I started seriously to workout and eat healthy. I went everyday running and I felt just GREAT!

Then the winter came. Then the stress caused by graduation + work started. Then Christmas came.

I gained back 6 of the 10 kilos I lost. I feel now heavy, ugly, full and fat all the time.

This of course influence my mood all the time. And also the way I life in general.

I know I am doing everything wrong, but sometimes it is easier to complain than actually do something to change. Especially when you are stressed.

I feel horrible because I was getting there (I was only 5-7 kilos away from my goal weight) and now I am back here, almost at square one.

I am very frustrated if you ask.

In January I joined Fit boxing class once a week. But I realized it is too less and I should increase the amount of exercise.

And from today I am not having any candy or junk food.

Well...that's it.

I hope I will be able to stay motivated and get in shape finally!

Keep Your Weight - BEST SOLUTIONS - SUGGESTED BY DOCTORS -

Hopefully, your doctor is both helpful and supportive. But many women aren’t so lucky and often leave the doctor’s office feeling judged. Not only does it feel bad to be guilt-tripped, but it may also backfire: Overweight patients are actually less likely to lose weight if they feel their doctors are passing judgment on them, according to new research published in the journal Preventive Medicine.

For the study, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine surveyed 600 overweight and obese U.S. adults who regularly visited their primary care doctors. The researchers found that 21 percent of the respondents thought their doctor judged them because of their weight—and 96 percent of those patients had attempted to lose weight in the last year. Meanwhile, 84 percent of patients who didn’t feel judged tried to drop pounds.

Wait, isn’t that a good thing? Not so fast. The researchers also found that 14 percent of people who discussed weight loss with a judgmental doctor lost 10 percent or more of their body weight—compared to 20 percent of those who chatted with a non-judgmental doctor.

So while people who have disparaging docs may be more likely to try to lose weight (or at least say that they’re trying on a survey), they’re less likely to succeed at their slim-down goals, says study author Kimberly Gudzune, M.D., M.P.H.

Previous research from Gudzune has shown that, in general, doctors spend less time with their obese patients—and more than half view such patients as unattractive and noncompliant. Geeze. And women are more likely to be on the receiving end of a guilt trip from their doctors than are men, per research from the University of California at San Diego.

That’s a healthcare crisis in and of itself: A good doctor-patient rapport is linked with better health outcomes (like weight loss), and people who like their doctors are more likely to keep coming back, says Gudzune. One study in Patient Education and Counseling found that having an empathetic doc can even reduce your brain’s pain awareness.

Hi I'm Deanna, please read if you need to loss a 100+ pounds and live in NY/NJ area..

Here's the deal...I recently opened a small weight loss camp in Staten Island. Three week stay. Being here assures that for 21 straight days you will be eating only healthy foods and losing weight. There are no cheat days. No ....I did well today so it wouldn't be so bad if i rewarded myself with things like fast food. By doing this you make eating healthy what your body is now accustomed to. The main problem with getting started toward substantial weight loss is that when you do it on your own, you cheat. The bad food decisions undo the progress you are making.... That shows on the scale, hurting your confidence and making it more difficult to gain momentum towards your goals. This is not a difficult program, you have fun and lose weight. We do not judge anyone, we treat everyone the same. No more than 3 people at a time, everyone has their own room. The program and accommodations are very affordable, as we hope to show we are more about helping people than making a profit. We all have the same goal, to win everyday and gain control over the food that has been for too long controlling us. If you or anyone you know fit the criteria please personal message us for more information. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope to speak to you soon, Deanna.

fasting to lose weight

fasting benefits for health:

- Fasting Promotes detoxification

- Fasting rests digestive system

- Fasting increases fat breakdown

fasting to lose weight

When you fast, your body is forced to dip into energy stores to get the fuel it needs to keep going, so you will lose weight. The big question is how long you will keep that weight off. Because food was often scarce for our ancestors, our bodies have been genetically programmed to combat the effects of fasting. When you eat less food, your metabolism slows down to preserve energy. Then, when you go back to your usual diet, your lowered metabolism may cause you to store more energy, meaning that you will probably gain back the weight you lost and possibly even put on more weight when eating the alike calories you did before the fast.

Why Diets Don't Work [almost never]

Hello, everybody.

Here's a story i want to share.

During my own weight loss transformation, I learned something that most people find impossible to believe (yet, it's a simple, biological truth).

Here's what I learned:

Diets don't work. Actually, most dieters end up gaining back all the weight they've lost and then some more.

When you diet, you put yourself in "starvation mode" so your body responds by gaining fat the first chance it gets.

This is how your FAT (Famine & Temperature) Programs become activated, and this is where term "yo-yo" dieter comes from.

First you lose weight, then your body panics because of famine, then the moment you eat freely again, your body does everything it can to store what you eat as fat.

Have you ever experienced this?

Now you know why?

It's something my friend has never released before to anyone but his exclusive Infusionsoft mastermind group.

It's something you'll start using all the time and it's all yours right now! Let me present...

Is Daydreaming Good for Your Health (and for your waistline

Hello, everybody. I'm new here, and i'll be sharing with you some reflections about efective ways of loosing weight and living healthier.

Did you know your brain gets a workout every time your mind wanders?

A study using functional MRI’s, tracked the activity of the daydreaming mind. The scans showed that while in reverie, the brain operates in both default mode as well as in the complex problem-solving state called the “executive network”.

Interestingly, the mind engaged the executive network more when the participants were less conscious of their daydreams.

So while daydreaming can be relaxing, it is far from a passive experience.

Finding Solutions to Problems

Daydreaming helps us cope and make sense of our daily lives as well.

Dr. Immordino-Yang of the University of Southern California argues that daydreaming is essential to our emotional wellbeing. The daydreaming mind is introspective. It processes our learning and experience and contrives meaning from them.

Daydreaming can be self-protective as well, giving over to fantasy after difficult experiences.

And it brings out the creativity in us. One experiment featured in Psychological Science, led by Benjamin Baird and Jonathan Schooler of the University of California at Santa Barbara measured the ingenuity of the daydreaming mind. Participants were asked to take a creativity test. After a 12-minute rest, they continued with another test, revisiting questions from the first.

For the break period, some participants rested, others took a memory test, while the last group engaged in trivial work to elicit daydreaming.

The result? The participants, who were allowed to daydream on their break, demonstrated 40% more creativity, coming up with more innovative solutions to the problems given in the first round.

Most of us have probably experience this phenomenon. A name or thought will escape us. After a several minutes or hours, the thought will reveal itself in a moment of epiphany.

What Does This Have To Do With Weight Loss?

Everything.

In our busy modern lives, we have little time for reflection. Bombarded with constant information, the average person is more disconnected from his thoughts than ever.

This disconnect is unhealthy for our minds and our bodies. To be really at peace, one has to be mindful of what’s going on inside one’s head.

Scientists have proven that 80% of our thoughts in the average day are negative. Not only do these thoughts wear us down emotionally, they prevent us from achieving our goals.

Our thoughts are who we are. They have a direct impact on how we feel and perceive our reality. If you are angry, it is because you are thinking of something that’s making you angry. The only way to control that emotion is to control the thought behind it.

If you want to achieve a goal like weight loss, than changing these negative thoughts is a must. If you don’t believe you can do it, you most likely won’t be able to.

Becoming conscious of your thoughts and taking time for reflection brings sanity to your life and can be crucial steps on the path to better health.

Try turning off the TV, computer and cell phone and engage in some good old-fashioned daydreaming the next time you have free time. Your mind and body will thank you for it.

Hiya all :)

Hello there!

I've registered because I felt my loved ones need a bit of respite from me talking about weight loss, sometimes feel like I am doing everyones head in ;)

A bit about myself: I am 27, and moved to the UK 9 years ago. I was a size 10/12 when I came here, and being a bit homesick, starting shift work, and decidedly worse weather than home led to an unhealthy lifestyle of snacking and comfort eating. Basically went up from 65kg to 85kg - size 16 (I'm 5'9").

Last summer I decided I'd had enough and started calorie counting, and even managed to fit in a bit of gym when work allowed :) I have dropped down to 70kg in the last 8 months, so lost a bit over 2 stone, and am really proud - though would like to get back to 65kg before this summer, and maybe even get down to 60kg (my lowest adult weight).

Mainly coming here to maintain motivation, and also to pick up some helpful advice regarding loose skin and exercises to tone up my tummy. :)

Nice to meet you all!

hi there

Just joined, love to meet you all. Trying to stick to my diet see you guys soon

Weight loss goal of 10 kilos

Hi ,

I'm 48/f . I was excercising regularly till I injured a shoulder and was restricted by pain . I am back again to the gym. I am 66 kgs now and my target weight is 55-56 kgs. I have a problem of lower back pain too-so I have to be careful with that too .

Would appreciate any inputs. I am starting slowly with 30 minutes on the treadmill and 15 on elliptical . WOuld like to slowly get into weights from the next week onwards and a little more intense cardio .

THank you !

Closing in on 100 pounds!

Hey all!

I posted here a while back. Never really got active in the forum. Frankly; because I had never gotten a response to any of my threads (it happens) so I just kind of stuck to lurking and reading.

But I do want to say 'thank you' to the folks who have posted a lot of good information around here. July 15th I was 330 pounds. Today I am 240 pounds. Getting darn close to that 100lb mark. I'd like to shave off another 40 or 50 after that! Wow!

It feels great! I think the weirdest thing though, is that I seriously woke up one morning and felt thinner. The weight loss was gradual and everything, but one day I just happened to walk by a mirror and stared at myself for a second... it felt like I had lost all that weight overnight. Also, I have been preferring tight fitting clothes for the first time in my life. They feel so much more comfortable. I guess before I just didn't like them because I was self conscious?

Either way, this will probably be another un-responded to thread; but that's okay! I appreciate what I've read and learned from the many topics that do seem to get off the ground!

Ways to Lose Weight

Your problem is you do not know how to lose weight fast. This is true that losing weight fast is a dream for many, which only a few people are able to realize. The good thing is you too can turn your dream into the reality by following tips:

1- Exercise is very rudiment:

you must take every opportunity to exercise your body. Between resistance training and cardio exercise , the latter has greater benefits. Aerobics, brisk walking, jogging, cycling and swimming are some of the cardio exercises you should perform. Exercise helps burn fat and also distributes fat evenly across the body. It also improves endocrine health.

2- Make water your primary drink:

At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda. The average American consumes an extra 245 calories a day from soft drinks. That’s nearly 90,000 calories a year — or 25 pounds! And research shows that despite the calories, sugary drinks don’t trigger a sense of fullness the way that food does.

3- You must avoid the Boredom:

Boredom is known to be a key factor of weight gain (obesity). The feeling of being bored makes you eat a lot making it difficult to slim down. However if such happens, find some creative ways to keep yourself busy and your attention away from food and snacks. There are a lot of things you can do when boredom sets in for instance painting, knitting, playing an instrument and engaging in other hobbies. You can also pay a visit to the museum or library. Keep your mind occupied and your stomach will hardly notice that it missed its afternoon snack.

4- Stop drinking soda and alcohol:

soda has a very high amount of sugar. This is certainly not good for you. Water will help clear out the toxins in your body. You need to know that alcohol is going to be expensive for more than just your wallet. In fact, most of the people that consume alcohol on a regular basis will find that they are going to have a stomach. This is not good for anyone that is trying to decrease their weight because you will be decreasing the amount of sugar you are consuming.

5- stick to a good diet system:

Here, we are not talking about becoming a vegetarian or any other thing that has to do with self-denial in your eating lifestyle. You can eat three times in a day and still be able to ensure good health for your body. It is all about eating well on a daily basis. Have control over what you eat. In order words, be knowledgeable about the potential of every food substance so as to avoid, or reduce, the in-take of those that can pose a great danger for your health.

6- More Fruits, More Veggies:

Grab an apple, orange or a mango instead of reaching for a snake sugery .This will satisfy your urge for sweets and give you the essential vitamins and minerals you need to power through your day and help you lose weight fast. At meals fill up on raw or steamed vegetables. Remember think organic! (if you can afford it). Aside from being low calorie most veggies are a great natural source of fiber which will help you lose weight fast naturally by keeping you normal.

Free Weight Loss programs

The race to fitness is on and a lot of people are getting into the band wagon. Some people do it to achieve a sexy body, some people just do it because they are embarrassed with the body they have now, while others do it simply to remain fit and heatlthy. As such, many fitness programs are out in the internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centers all over. Some are too expensive to afford that one may even lose weight just by trying to work out the money needed to pursue these fitness programs.

One may not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness center and spend much just to slim down to obtain that longed for sexy body. There are many books available in the bookstore which offer weight loss programs which are convenient and for free, of course the books are not though. These weight loss programs, or diet plans are gaining immense popularity with so much publicity, testimonials and reviews that one may be confused which exactly to follow. So before choosing which weight loss plan to follow, try reading these summaries about the most popular diet programs out today.

Atkins' New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins. This weight loss program encourages high protein diet and a trim down on the carbs. One can feast on vegetables and meat but should fast on bread and pasta. One is also not restricted against fat intake so it is okay to pour in the salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, after the diet, one may find himself lacking on fiber and calcium yet high in fat. Intake of grains and fruits are also limited.

Carbohydrate Addict's Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet plan advocates low carbohyrate eating. Approves on eating meats, vegetables and fruits, dairy and grain products. however, warns against taking in too much carb. "Reward" meal can be too high on fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose by Dr. Goor. Restrains fat intake. One is given a "fat" budget and he is given the liberty on how to spend it. It does not pressure the individual to watch his carbohydrate intake. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafoods is okay. A go signal is also given on eating vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is fairly healthy, good amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch triglyceride levels though; if high, trim down the carbohydrates and tuck in more of the unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Advocates moderate amounts of fat and protein intake and high on carbs. Primarily designed to lower blood pressure, the diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages high intake of whole wheat grains as well as fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy. Some dieters think it advocates too much eating to procure significant weight loss.

Eat More, Weigh Less by Dr. Ornish. Primarily vegetarian fare and strictly low-fat. Gives the go signal on the "glow" foods but warns to watch it on non-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet is poor in calcium and retricts consumption of healthy foods like seafoods and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type. Interesting because it is based on the person's blood type. recommends plenty of mest for people with the blood type O. Diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and too low in calories. And for the record, there is even no proof that blood type affects dietary needs.

The Pritkin Principle. Focused on trimming the calorie density in eating by suggesting watery foods that make one feel full. Eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy is okay. Although limits protein sources to lean meat, pseafood and poultry. Although it is healthy by providing low amounts of saturated fats and rich amounts of vegetables and fruits, it is also low on calcium and limits lean protein sources.

Volumetrics. For low-density calorie eating. Recommends the same foodstuff as Pritkin but restricts fatty or dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This plan is reasonably healthy given the high amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as being low in calorie density and saturated fats.

The Zone. Moderately low on the carbs yet moderately high on the proteins. Encourages low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus veggies, fruits and grains. It is also healthy but lacking in grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers. High carbohydrates, moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet plan and very flexible too. it allows the dieter to plan his own meal rather than give him a set to follow.

Getting back on track

I have never been on a healthy weight. My parents used to just let me eat whatever i wanted, i think this resulted in me being a binge eater. I want to be completely honest on this forum, everything i binge on i will mention. For a very long time i have been frustrated and angry with myself, i still am. Why is it so hard to just eat normally and be healthy, i hate the way i look but sometimes i just cannot seem to help myself. At the moment i think i am depressed, my physique limits me in so much. I never go swimming with friends, i dont like sex with my gf because i cannot stand my own body. Uptill now i have been lying to myself and other, i hope by telling you all the truth that i will be confronted by my own habits. Just writing this makes me feel more determend to be the man i can be, i know there are people who say that when you have been fat all your life you can never bee muscular. I want to disprove that, but i need your help. I am a binge eater, yesterday after work i bought a 400gram back of m&m and a can of energy drink and i finished both of them within 30 min. Today i binged on bread with Nutella.

Please if there are any other binge eaters out there i need help and advice, i which i could go to a professional but i don't have the money. I will make an obligation to post my habits here every day, i will be completely honest with what i eat and i need to be judged.

I'm in the MEDIA!

So I just started a national weight loss competition through Genghis Grill! They basically pay for me to have a bowl everyday of their stir fry, and the most percentage weight loss contestant wins $10,000. I'm only a week into it and already seeing results. Another aspect of the competition is social media, and so my first task was to make a dance video at the store.. the winner is chosen based on views, creativity, and effort. I would really appreciate support from the awesome people that come across this forum in getting more "views." If you have extra time and can hit like on the video also (use google/gmail login) that helps also!!!

Rapid Weight Loss Techniques

Other than physical appearance weight affects a person in many ways. This could be the overall quality of life, self-esteem, depression, health risks, and physical incapabilities. There are a lot of positive changes once a person experience weight loss. It is for this reason why a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will surely trim down those fats and get a super slim head turner body.

The first thing that an over-weight should do is seek a doctor to recommend the best weight loss regimen. This will be done after a full physical examination, which leads to the determination of proper weight loss technique. And to lose weight fast and effectively four aspects of life should be changed: what to eat, how to eat, behavior and activity level.

Here are fast tips that can change an over-weight's life:

First: Fast weight loss composes of a multi-faceted technique that consists mindset, exercise, and in other cases, diet supplements. Begin by learning a diet food plan that can easily be accustomed with. Incorporate an exercise plan that allows even at least fifteen minutes a day like brisk walking, running, swimming, and dancing.

Second: Set realistic approaches. The ability to focus and have proper mindset enables someone on a diet to quickly lose those extra pounds. With discipline and proper mind set, a dieter will never be discouraged and lose focus.

Third: Listen as the body speaks. Each and everyone's body metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans. Try substituting one program for another to compensate the body's reaction. Exercise program must be suitable to one's body, as others are not able to exercise as rigorously as others can. If walking is all that can be done, then walk for this is proven the best exercise. Muscles burn more calories than fats so it's also best to put on a little muscle and looking good too.

Fourth: Eat more fibers for it makes a person full sooner and stays in the tummy longer, slowing down the rate of digestion. A single serving of whole grain bread moves fat through the digestive system faster. Grains turn into blood sugar that spikes the body's insulin level. Thus, making the body more energized and ready to tell the body when it should stop burning fats or start storing.

Fifth: Keep away from fried foods especially deep-fried as this contains a great amount of fat. Although fish and chicken appear leaner than beef, this white meat can contain more fat than when a beef is fried. It is recommended for those on strict diet to opt for grilled food as this does not have or contain less amount of fat after the food is cooked.

Sixth: Takes lots of fluid. Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body refreshed. Since weight loss depends on how the body eliminates body wastes, the body must stay hydrated.

All in all, discipline and consistency is still the best practice and

Newbie with a question

Hi guys

I've always been on the chubby side but I nearly choked today when the scale told me that I was 220lbs!!! That means I've packed on roughly 35lbs in just under 5 months. Does that kind of gain in that space of time warrant a trip to the doctor to see if there is an underlying problem? Perhaps I should visit him anyway for a more accurate weigh-in and waist circumference measurement?

Thanks for any advice.

Help with beginning?

I posted a longer version with lots of background information for anyone who cares however after doing all the typing I realized that to help me out, you didn't really NEED all that boring background info to help me so if you scroll down, below the second **************** line I posted what it is that I'm looking for help with. Thank you very much for any help!!

*******************

Hi all! I am posting this for myself and for my husband. I am currently 38 weeks pregnant (due March 5th) and prior to pregnancy I was a fitness instructor & owned a fitness facility so of course I was in amazing shape (I taught a minimum of 5 fitness classes a week... you don't have much of a choice when working out is your job!). My husband, on the other hand, could not be more opposite. He comes from a VERY overweight family (his sister and father both weigh in the low-mid 400's I would guess and his mom in the high 200's) with a lot of health issues related to their weight loss. When he was younger (high school and beginning of college), he was the skinny one of the family (he was pretty involved in sports) however sometime soon before we met he put on weight FAST.

I saw pictures of him from less than a year before we met where he was small and I asked him what he weighed there and he said in the 180's... when we met he was in the 230's. Obviously.... that's a really fast weight gain. In his defense, he was living at home and eating whatever his parents provided and they eat SO unhealthy (they fry food every night, always have big desserts and actually eat TWO dinners) plus he was an engineering student and was working full time.

It was kind of weird in the beginning because I'm SO into fitness however for whatever reason, me being a fitness buff and him being a bit on the chubby side never really affected the relationship. He never acted like he cared about his weight (although he must have because he wouldn't take his shirt off at the pool) and never talked about having a desire to change it at all and since he didn't care, neither did I. I figured if he was happy how he was then I could be too (afterall, he didn't seem THAT big to me when I could compare him to the rest of his family... just a bit chubby).

At his yearly check up last year (January-ish) (it was our first year married so he got insurance through work for him and I... it was his first "yearly" check up in years), the doctor informed him that he was medically obese and headed towards diabetes and heart disease and not THAT far off from being morbidly obese (5'8" tall and weighing in at 245 lbs). He said he wanted to lose weight so we started walking around however his job at the time was super labor-intensive and he didn't have an interest in changing his eating habits so not much happened and that all fell by the wayside.

WELL then last Summer we found out that we were expecting our first. I decided to sell my fitness studio and am now preparing to stay home with our LO. Well with the changing family dynamic, my hubby decided he wanted to lose weight for REAL. Of course, I'm excited to get back into working out as well postpartum (it always was like a drug to me). We have a couple who're close friends and I said that I wanted to do a half-marathon post-pregnancy with the female. She said it sounded awesome BUT also signed up her fiance. Well when my hubby heard that he was running it (it's in October) he said that he wanted to as well. I didn't want to be discouraging but the idea made me very nervous... he eats very unhealthy and hasn't worked out in years besides the occasional attempt to walk.... training would be hard and he hates to be uncomfortable... but if it's what he wanted I wasn't going to discourage him! So today, we signed up for the half marathon. My hubby asked that I find us a training program and I do all of our grocery shopping and meal-prep so he said "just figure out what I need to start eating and I'll do it". He wants to get into good shape for the sake of our soon-to-be little boy and that makes me so happy I just feel so lost (which is weird considering that I used to do this stuff for a living!). I need help!

*************************************

My husband and I are signed up a half-marathon in October. I've provided background info on both of us as well as what I need help with diet-wise and exercise-wise.

Me: I will be postpartum in a few weeks (currently 38 weeks pregnant). Didn't used to eat healthy but never ate big portions. I'm small. I'll be staying home with our LO so my schedule is completely open for training/planning.

Husband: Technically considered obese. Hasn't ever tried to lose the weight. Weighs approximately 255 pounds and is just over 5'8" tall. Has ankle problems which I believe are due to his weight. Works a weird schedule (4 hours Thursday morning, then 12 hour shifts Friday, Saturday and Sunday night). With his long shifts he needs food to sustain him.

Working out: I found this training plan and would like to follow it. Does it seem like a good one? Since it's a 14 week training plan, I was planning on beginning in the middle of June. How can we work our way up to being able to run? Husband literally hasn't run in years. I was thinking of starting walking as soon as the doctor clears me and once we're able to comfortably walk a few miles together, throw in some jogging? http://ift.tt/1h2tW6V

Eating: Obviously, I am able to find healthy recipes and know the basics (low carbs, eat lots of veggies, drink lots of water etc.). My biggest concern is with my hubby and his work schedule as well as breakfasts. I am in LOVE with cereal but I know it isn't healthy and am wondering what a healthy breakfast would look like. Also, what could my husband eat on work days? He sleeps all day and then is at work for 12 hours at night and only gets to eat once.

Thanks for any help!
